"Beyond shuttered storefronts, GAME has also implemented a list of policy changes that will impact customers. The sketchiest changes include the suspension of gift cards and GAME reward cards. The company will also no longer take pre-orders and "no refunds can be given for any pre-order deposits which have been paid.""
that is... wow.

I imported Xenoblade from them. Glad it was delivered before they went under because they'd probably have taken my money and run, and there'd be nothing I could do about it.

This is actually bothersome because believe it or not they haven't released Fate/Extra in Europe yet, and Ghostlight distributes only to GAME stores. So not sure what's gonna happen with that. :(
It's literally the only game I've been interested in for months...
I've been meaning to check mine. See if anything is on sale. Sounds like a good opportunity to pick up a few games I've been putting off buying for cheap.

This is motivated purely by the fact that they are imploding. In fact several GAME and Gamestation (GAME's sister company) stores closed today, including the one nearest to me.
But yeah GAME has been pretty bad for a while and eventually people started to realize it I guess.
I like how you linked us to your comment instead of just the article.
Anyway, the good news is the branches going out of business should be selling their games for super cheap. I bought a number of games from GameCrazy when the one near me closed down.

They've actually had some kicking deals lately, especially on DS games. Ghost Trick, Trauma Center Under the Knife and Advance Wars Dual Strike in 3 for 2, which ended up at about £12 for all 3. Last Window and Mario & Luigi: Bowsers Inside Story went down from £20 to £7 each.
Now I know why >_>

if a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it do the other trees laugh?
It isn't just online shops to be fair. Supermarkets have also been selling games equally cheaply, which GAME really wasn't happy about. Promotions and used games were pretty much the main reasons to buy games there, as well as the stuff like t-shirts and toys they sell I guess.
Yeah I mean if GAME has started to sell games online, Amazon-style, then closing stores would be a good move. I dunno the detail about that, though.
Straight up canceling gift cards and pre-orders is probably actually fraud, though, no matter what kind of provisions they put in their terms of service contracts.

Well I've been waiting for GAME to die ever since they couldn't stock ME3, I just didn't expect it to be this soon. No matter, I still got some games in the sales they had.

Believe me, their online service is not something you want to be using, and not something that'll build a a stable customer base. When I ordered Xenoblade, it took two months for me to receive the game. I can understand it taking a while, considering I was importing it, but two months is a bit much. Especially because it took two weeks after release to begin shipping my copy, and on their website they claimed this was because the game was delayed, when really they just didn't have enough stock. Additionally, I tried to communicate with their customer service on three separate occasions via email, and never received any word back. And they charge you to contact their customer service by phone.

Seriously, there's already two-point-five other dedicated game stores at my local shopping centre, so I've never had any reason to patronise this one and will not be disappointed in the slightest if it disappears.
