I swear the Ken-Elena matchup feels so lopsided sometimes. I can hold my own against the Chuns Yuns and Makotos of the world, why is it that Ken just keeps obliterating me

I've never even played against Balrog online. I've played at least 3 different Blankas and they all either spam shock or flying rolls.

as much as I think Blanka is an awful character in SF4, I still prefer that version to the SF2 and CvS2 versions

but of course they're all unpleasant

Balrog is easy to zone if your character has decent pokes. If he gets in he can be a problem but you could make that argument with a lot of characters.

That's actually one of THawk's most favorable matchups! It should be harder for you against him than other characters.

Also, Balrog is annoying, but everyone plays him the exact same way and they all go for the headbutt into ultra combo, and you can lure 90% of people into biting on that. It's really annoying if Balrog puts you in a corner, but I generally have good patience there, and again I will wait for them to get antsy and throw out that headbutt.

Also when you are often faced with the most lopsided matchup in the game against Blanka it seems dumb to complain about any other character.

actually how the hell do you do anything to blanka as abel, I think the only thing I did was try to bait out bad rolls by focus dashing a lot

I just learned something that appeals to me

I wish Capcom would just think a little more about things like Mike Z is doing.

In Skullgirls, you press 2 buttons to throw just like in SF3/SF4 BUT...you have to be standing up to throw tech. DB/DF/D+throw will not throw or tech throws. If you press any of those direction + throw you will get a c.LP but no throw/throw tech OS.

good matches by the way! in case you couldn't tell, I like grapplers because if you can play one of them, you can pretty much play all of them, even Hakan, apparently. the range on his grabs is absurdly huge, why exactly is he considered mostly useless anyways?

Yeah, you did well with the grapplers. The fact they can respond with a grab at any time makes it hard to get in, except with the most basic combos. I'm trying to bring back the zfs-Ken duo from so many years back, so that's why I chose him so much. Have to unlearn and relearn shotos!

best thing would probably be to jump a ton and only use light attacks and crossups to annoy me, since people who do that all seem to completely own me and make me whiff every throw

also when hakan's lubed down, just try to fireball him from a range, cuz pretty much any attack you make he can just throw into. his approaching outside of the slide seems pretty bad

makoto was one of the characters I really wanted to get good with but never could, mainly because I can't for the life of me figure out how to make her antiair move hit anything at all

I think it's more Makoto than you. She has some real disadvantages in AE that make it easy to get good hit in. You played her pretty well, but that AA is so bad that it's hard to respond after getting knocked down.

iirc it has limited utility in SF4 as well

sometimes it comes out on accident though, or I'll throw it out if I expect a neutral jump on my wakeup or something

I know that her anti-air in 3s is standing mp or standing hp or (lol) crouching mk. no idea what it is in SF4.

I heard she got nothing but buffs in AE and became one of the stronger characters, huh. But yeah, her wakeup options suck and I usually just defend.

SF4 Makoto is hilariously fun to play. A lot of matches with her come down to "does your opponent know the Makoto matchup?". If no, you win for free. If yes, you might still win because she hits like a truck and has ridiculous hitboxes on everything.
