Wow what a bad Smackdown. I loved how they showed the AJ/Daniel Bryan clip 3 times, and then did a boring Pipers Pit segment to top it off. Any interest I had in that promo is long gone-- thanks for running it into the ground, WWE. Also, clips of Sheamus giving Mean Gene a pep talk. Holy crap the product is so ridiculously held back by clips nowadays.

Also random thought it's funny how AJ and Daniels are lovers having issues on both TNA and WWE. We just need Daniel Bryan to brainwash AJ's friend uhh... does AJ have friends.

Haha, that's awesome

That match told such a great story, with a fantastic ending.

There was really no reason to bump it up from 15 minutes to 20 though; I felt the extra time hurt the match a bit.

Iron Man rules matches are in the same boat as Last Man Standing matches for me, in that I don't see why people clamor for them. Conventional finishing methods are fine in the vast majority of cases IMO. Those stips are more likely to hurt a match than help it, even with great workers.

I'd much rather see two guys like Bryan and Punk wrestle a match that just happens to go an hour than I would see them wrestle an Iron Man match. HBK vs. Cena from Raw > any Iron Man match WWE's ever done.

You know what should happen? Give Sheamus the stick. He cuts a promo:

"I understand Daniel Bryan's been making a lot of excuses for Wrestlemania. It was AJ's fault, he says. To that, I say some kind of Irish something-or-other that barely applies here. You know what, Bryan? No more excuses. Get yer arse out here now so I can show the world that I truly am the better man. I'll give you the beating I should have given you in Miami!"

Out comes Bryan. They do the 20 minute match that they should have done at Wrestlemania, minus AJ because she's like 16 years old anyway, and they settle the thing. Even if it doesn't please the audience, it'd make me happy because that match should have been better than it was.

I want the first fall of Bryan/Sheamus to either be:

-Sheamus Brogue Kicks Bryan straight away for fall 1 (Bryan gets another fall, but loses eventually)
-Sheamus tries to Brogue Kick Bryan straight away, but Bryan dodges, rolls Sheamus up and pins him with his feet on the ropes, while pulling the tights, or something.

For me an Iron Man match is good because it guarantees an hour-long wrestling match - though yes, I guess that does mean there will be stalling for time at some point.

I mean there was no guarantee that Cena/HBK was going to go 40 minutes, so it was a nice surprise, but to have that guarantee is nice I guess? Plus I like seeing unusual and new situations, which the Iron Man match welcomes. Stuff like Brock using a chair and taking a DQ fall in order to damage Kurt some more. Things like that which you only get to see once every couple of years, which makes a change to the usual stuff.

LMS I just like because they're usually brutal. Like Cena/ADR at Vengeance could have been a totally average match, but I really enjoyed what they did with it in the end. Though the ring being collapsed at the time did help (that was awesome, by the way).

Iron Man and Last Man Standing matches are, like all gimmick matches, useful if either they fit the angle or if the two have worked a bunch of regular televised matches already and need to change it up.

To expand on the former, a Last Man Standing match can be better than a regular match if the angle has built the feud up as two guys who just want to beat the ever-loving s*** out of each other until one of them is physically incapable of getting back up. It doesn't even feel like a match since there's no pinning or submitting. It's just a straight-up brawl. Iron Man matches... well, I dunno on that one. I guess it can just lend a very "epic" feel to a match to hear that they're going until the clock says to stop.

On a semi-related note, I like that they've given us two two-out-of-three falls matches this year (both featuring Daniel Bryan, no less). Two-out-of-three falls is underrated! It's just a shame this one will probably be so one-sided.

See, here I just feel like Streetfights or Falls Count Anywhere or Cage or Hell in a Cell or whatever just works better.

All the ref counts are just like really repetitive rest holds.

Maybe it's just the way WWE does them, I dunno. I just feel like they have too many winning attempts to stall the match.

My issue with Iron Man Matches is more the end of the match. Two people trying to pin each other is ALMOST always more interesting than one person trying to win and the other just playing defense trying not to lose.

Yeah this is the one real problem with Last Man Standing matches for me, you get to 8 after like ten minutes and then spend the next fifteen working up to 10. It's kind of the same thing with how pin attempts pretty much go straight to 2 and then you spend the rest of the match going 2! 2.2! 2.5! 2.8! 2.91! 2.998! but it's way more noticeable in Last Man Standing matches because the count is so much longer.

FCW - August 14, 2011

I miss more stuff here! But this is a good show otherwise.

Aksana is suspended for refusing to wrestle last week. This is a segment I know little to nothing about. Assume it had Aksana trying to be funny and failing.

But I do get to see Bo Rotundo & Husky Harris vs Lucky Cannon & Damien Sandow. Why hasn't Lucky Cannon been fired yet!? It makes no sense to me! IMPORTANT NOTE: Damien Sandow starts to grow out his beard here. This is actually a really good match. Husky Harris has skills, and then Damien Sandow ALWAYS has skills. They work over Husky until he gets the hot tag to Bo Rotundo who hits a Spear on Lucky Cannon for the win. Standard match, but a nice one. I think Bo Rotundo did all of two other moves.

And omg I miss another Brad Maddox segment. :( He gives a promo reminding everyone he beat both Richie Steamboat and Percy Watson last week. He trashes on Richie Steamboat and talks about how he's so much worse than his father. Richie then comes out and superkicks him before he gets to have his match with Kenneth Cameron.

I also miss an interview with Leo Kruger that seems like much of the same thing as his last one. Only this time he mentions he's going to face off against Bo Rotundo for the Florida Heavyweight Championship.

I get to see Derrick Bateman vs Hunico though! lmao Bateman coming out to the NXT theme. CAN I MAKE IT THROUGH THIS? I miss the LALALALALET'S GO! Hunico is still a luchador and not a typical Mexican. Apparently Ricardo is watching it with Conor O'Brian, Tito Colon, Racquel Diaz, and... some other guy. Even Matt Martlaro doesn't know. Anyway, this was a pretty good match. Bateman hits an Exploder suplex and then Martlaro calls it a T-Bone. Regal corrects him. lol Hunico wins with a... weird roll up. I dunno. It seemed like a crappy finish.

Then there's a segment I couldn't see where Steve Keirn makes Norman Smiley and Maxine co-GMs.

Anyway, we get our Dean Ambrose vs Seth Rollins (c) for the 15 Championship! It's an Iron Man match that goes for 15 minutes. Basically, it's a fantastic match as you might imagine. It ends with a 0-0 draw and both guys have a ton of awesome moves in this match. I was highly impressed by this one. They were both unique with tons of crazy near falls. At the end, Dean Ambrose throws the 15 Championship away in anger.

Highlight:

Seth Rollins vs Dean Ambrose for the 15 Championship:

It's an awesome match. If you want to see how good these guys are, I recommend checking it out.

A lot of specialty matches get "broken" as soon as you think about them. Faces should never win I Quit matches any more because heels can use the audience (or a commentator or someone backstage or whoever) as a hostage, you can use all kinds of weird stuff to keep people down in Last Man Standing matches, steel cage matches with the door have never made sense, any no DQ match should never *not* consist of the first person to get a weapon shot in winning because they just deliver 230 chair shots in a row and all of these matches where a heel has a crony should follow the Cena/Miz I Quit match formula and be a handicap match in practice, etc.

KINDA, because the current setup with the chamber allows multiple potential contenders of both alignments. Also the rumble guy can challenge EITHER title, so the rumble winner doesn't necessarily spoil the chamber match winners, although it comes pretty close. Also, WM is more predisposed to face/face matches anyway so yeah.
