I don't think I could put Anagram on any sort of s*** list even if I had an opinion on these topics one way or another. Not after the ridiculous amount of dedication he's shown in keeping it all going this long!
Oh I know, Jeff. I was never serious about the s*** list but I did kind of want to know his source pretty badly and was disappointed. Anyhoo Anna's a good guy.
A lot of people complain about some of the various uses of legendary Pokemon in the last part of this season. Me? I complain about the end of the Regigigas episode.
At the end of the episode, J has fled, everyone's been changed back to normal, and Regigigas is past both his temporary insanity and Slow Start. So what do they do? Not only do they immediately seal him away again, but they also seal away most of Brandon's A-team and he basically quits his entire Frontier Brain career path in the process. Why? Because it's apparently better than letting a legendary with many instances of heroism actually, you know, have any kind of life in the world it protects.
I'm probably biased, but I'm of the opinion that if legendaries exist in the Pokemon world, they should be allowed to do things. Even if it means having Darkrais in tournaments, it's better than this complete lack of anything resembling gratitude and breaking up one of the two finest examples of trust between trainer and legendaries. (And we haven't heard from Noland in a while.)

It's clear Regigigigigigigigigigigas wanted to go back to sleep, that I have no problem with. But Brandon immediately devoting his time to protecting it seems weird, yeah.

PEDAL TO THE METTLE! "How does he change his mind when he has none?" Score: 6/10
The heroes have reached Lake Acuity. They only just now remember that Uxie is supposed to live in this lake, even though it was a huge plot thread not long ago. They go to the pokemon center, but the official pokemon center battlefield is undergoing repairs. Fortunately, Reggie contacted Olivie, a traveling referee (?!) and came up with a back-up plan. His back-up plan turns out to be a clearing next to a lake. Well, good for him? I guess?
Reggie tells everyone that Ash and Paul are alike, but opposite: both want strength with their pokemon, but have opposite training styles, so a full battle is unavoidable. Olivie shows up in a Team Rocket balloon (disguised), no one realizing that his assistants are Team Rocket in disguise. I only mention this because I dont know if theyll be important next episode.
Ash screams "Okay Pikachu, let's do this!" and sends out Buizel. Paul counters with Torterra. Ash counters this by recalling Buizel and sending out Gliscor, which actually makes sense. Gliscor does well at first, Reggie and Brock musing that Ash has fought Torterra in the past and knows its moves, but they soon realize Paul knew Ash would act in a certain way if he thought Torterra was "vulnerable," which lets him counter Ash's attacks. So yes, Paul knew Ash knew Paul knew Ash knew. Ash is forced to recall Gliscor, but Torterra takes extremely heavy damage. Paul chooses not to recall Torterra, though, so Ash sends out Staraptor. A surprise stone edge almost knocks out Staraptor, but it stays up, so Paul recalls his pokemon and sends out Weavile.
Staraptor is still up, so Ash keeps it in because that's the worst possible choice. Fascinatingly, an ice pokemon that's faster than Staraptor utterly destroys Staraptor. Staraptor actually does win, but only because it knows close combat and gets a lucky strike.
Electabuzz versus Grotle. He has it use light screen and then sends out Honchkrow. Grotle wants to battle Honchkrow because it's fought it before, and Ash keeps it in because that is literally the worst possible decision and hes essentially letting Grotles pride determine his battling straandtherewego Grotle is knocked out easily.
Brock realizes that Paul isn't testing his pokemons' strength or anything, he's only battling to defeat Ash, and Reggie mentions that Paul picked his team to counter Ashs, whereas Ash just chose the pokemon hed been using throughout Sinnoh.
Magmortar versus Pikachu. Ash is completely surprised that Paul's Magmar evolved, somehow, and the episode ends.
I hope the set-up this episode is worth it next episode.

GenesisSaga posted... And my snipe kind of does count. I literally set it up for someone else to grab it and no one did within the minute it took for the No Flooding message to wear off so I took it for myself. Victory is mine!
I thought double (and up) posting was universally frowned upon. At the very least, I didn't expect three consecutive posts from the same person when I made post 497. >_>
That's why I said it only "kind of" counted. Look, I didn't say it was a perfect snipe like last time but all the same, victory is mine and such. Someone else had 60 full seconds to grab it and they failed- they f***in failed! That ain't my problem! >=D
Yay, gym battle with Brycen announced. 11 episodes after the Skyla battle. But that includes a 4-part mini tournament and a 2-part Team Rocket thingy. Plus two evolutions in the other episodes (well, I'm assuming the final ending evolution is going to happen given what the episode's about). So there were only two true filler episodes in between them, it seems.
EVOLVING STRATEGIES! "There werent any good quotes in this episode so nyeh." Score: 7.5/10
Ash stares down Magmortar. "Pikachu, now don't let your guard down!" Our hero, ladies and gentlemen: a strategist every bit the equal of Sun Tzu and Alexander the Great. In fact, it's Dawn who proves to be the budding strategist, wondering why Paul is using a fire type against an electric type, and Brock explains that if Paul used a ground type, Ash could just switch to Buizel.
Pikachu uses quick attack, and Magmortar's flame body burns it. Pikachu's thunderbolt countershield allows it to stay in the fight, but Ash eventually recalls it and sends out Buizel. Magmortar hurts Buizel a bit, and Paul sends out Ursaring. It uses bulk up. "Ursaring just raised its offense and defense! ... Aw, who cares?" Our tactical expert hero, ladies and gentlemen. Despite his stupidity, Ash manages to-- get Buizel knocked out when he decides not to recall it after it takes like three powerful attacks to the face. Surprisingly, a fourth powerful attack downs it. Ash sends out Staraptor again to finish it off, and Ursaring immediately knocks it out. Paul then recalls Ursaring and sends out Electabuzz.
Ash sends out Chimchar, who comes the closest to flipping off someone as someone can come in Pokemon when it sees Paul. Electabuzz uses light screen again and Paul sends out Torterra. Chimchar takes some damage and Ash recalls it.
He sends out Gliscor, but it's instantly knocked out. That'll show you, Gliscor, for trying to beat someone's signature pokemon. Ash sends out Pikachu because it's literally his worst possible choice, but Paul sends out Ursaring despite the grass type advantage. Pikachu gets hit by the same attack that knocked out two of Ash's other pokemon, but the heroic music is still playing, so it's not knocked out. It manages to paralyze Ursaring with static/quick attack, but between its burn and Ursaring's sheer strength, Pikachu's knocked into Lake Acuity, and for a moment everyone is like "oh, is it okay?!" but no one bothers to send in Piplup to search for it. Anyway it's knocked out.
Ash only has Chimchar left now, but Paul still has five pokemon. Knowing that Paul's pokemon have all taken damage, Ash throws out his last chance. Despite Ursaring's best efforts, Ash isn't allowed to lose too badly except against Elite Four members, so Chimchar wins without taking a hit. So excited is it about its success that it up and evolves into Monferno and learns mach punch.
Paul sends out Electabuzz, who is visibly surprised that Chimchar is now Monferno. With its newfound power and speed, it-- gets hit by thunder a bunch of times and loses to a thunder punch. Granted, it gets in a few good hits itself, but Electabuzz doesnt even look tired when the battle ends.
Paul looks smug with his victory and walks off, and for once, Ash says nothing as he leaves. Actually a pretty good two-parter for Ash and Pauls first true battle. Ursaring is clearly the rock star of this episode.

Anagram is now getting into the year or so that I actively followed the show and at least saw an episode summary every week. Don't do that so much these days. I got back into it with the Ash/Paul battle.

UNCRUSHING DEFEEAT! "Shovel may care!" Score: 5/10
Ash's pokemon are recovering from their loss to Paul while Uxie plays around at the bottom of Lake Acuity. Ash is moody and has flashbacks to each of his pokemon being knocked out. Meanwhile, Nurse Joy asks Brock to find some cherry berries (?!) for her, so he goes to Lake Acuity and sees Uxie.
Ash's pokemon come to comfort him, so he goes back to the pokemon center and learns about Uxie. By the way, I like how Nurse Joy instantly believes Brock saw a legendary pokemon.
Dawn tries to cheer everyone buy having her pokemon put on an acrobatics show. Seeing that Ash is depressed, Team Rocket tries to steal Pikachu using-- a net. I mean, yes, they use their other pokemon, and Ash has to defeat them each with his own remaining pokemon, but still. This gives Ash his confidence and mojo back, so has his pokemon give Team Rocket a special six-attacks-at-once blastoff.
This is a slow episode meant to show Ash returning to normal. It succeeds, but therees nothing to really say about it.

Hey, remember that episode in the first season where Ash refused to support a couple of feuding gyms and we got to see how evil they were because they called upon a mob of Pokemon to gang up on a human at the same time?
He is really stretching the limits of their team rocketiness.

PROMOTING HEALTHY TANGROWTH! "Don't you know great when you see it? Of course, to see great, you must be it!" Score: 2.5/10
Mamoswine runs off into a forest after Piplup and Pikachu laugh at it screwing up a contest move (what dicks). Dawn follows and they encounter a Tangrowth that uses absorb, the weakest attack ever, to instantly steal all of Mamoswines energy. Later, indignant about this, it refuses to go back to the others because it needs to avenge itself.
Ash and Brock meet Verona, a forest ranger who informs them of Tangrowth, and forbids bringing any pokemon into the forest to protect them from its stealing their energy. So of course the three of them and all of their pokemon immediately enter the forest.
Well, whatever. Everyone finds Tangrowth (apparently Grotle has super good smelling, even though it was already established Pikachu does so why they need multiple pokemon with this same gimmick I do not know), but it reveals that its not stealing the energy of pokemon for fun (though it probably is pretty fun, lets just be honest), its using it to power itself up to use growth on this giant tree thats been struck by lightning. Because the tree is so old and its roots so deep, if it dies, the entire forest will die with it. I have no idea if that makes any sense.
After a Team Rocket attack, during which Mamoswine learns hidden power for some reason, Verona looks at the tree and locates the spot on the tree that contains all of its nutrients, so quick, everyone use growth here, really quick! The tree is instantly healed.
I was going to give this episode a 4/10 until that line.

BEATING THE BUSTLE AND HUSTLE! "What's trying your attention span again?" Score: 3/10

Next up is the movie.
