Probably just an episode or two. Having four permanent members would be unusual, especially since Dawn actually has decently powerful pokemon and no reason to get rid of them... Although it would be an excuse to introduce a contest arc, which would eat up time.

Probably just an episode or two. Having four permanent members would be unusual, especially since Dawn actually has decently powerful pokemon and no reason to get rid of them... Although it would be an excuse to introduce a contest arc, which would eat up time.

Considering that neither Iris or Cilan really have their own arc, it wouldn't be unwelcome. And don't forget there were four people in Hoenn, as much as everyone would like to forget Max existed.

The heroes have reached Mount Coronet. They come to a fast-moving river and see some blue Shellos looking concerned - a pink Shellos is in the river, about to fall over yet another waterfall, so Piplup jumps in to save it… and succeeds. That was easy.

Nurse Joy arrives and says that this pink Shellos shouldn't be here - pink Shellos live on the other side of the mountain, and blue Shellos live on this side. For some reason, pink Shellos keep appearing on this side of the mountain and getting lost, so the heroes offer to take it with them to the other side of the mountain since they’re heading there anyway. Looker shows up, says hi, and then leaves. Wow, that's... that’s definitely necessary.

The heroes are walking on a mountain path. Piplup and Shellos look over the edge, so Dawn tells them to be careful because it's dangerous. Piplup acknowledges her and then looks over the edge again, falling off. Okay, Genny. You're right. What can I say? You're right. The heroes soon fall into the cave system Piplup looked into, and by the way, everyone falls at least ninety feet and no one is hurt.

The heroes and Looker are both in this cave system, though neither see the other. Both find footprints and start following them. The heroes follow the tracks and find Saturn and Team Galactic, who menacingly wield... metal poles at them? They then tie the heroes up. Looker, disguised as a Team Galactic grunt, infiltrates Team Galctic and tricks a scientist named Charon (like ten year-olds will get that reference) into telling him their plan: find Spear Pillar and use their key, obtained in a past episode, to open it. We also learn that the pink Shellos found its way to the wrong side of the mountain by the tunnels Team Galactic dug in the mountain to find the gateway. Looker reveals himself and announces that he's part of the International Police, who are so important, that unlike regular cops, they have zero people devoted to hiding behind corners with stop signs and waiting for old ladies to blow them so they can hand out tickets. Looker then frees the heroes with his kung-fu. Think I’m joking?


While Looker fights the grunts, Charon finds the gateway to the Spear Pillar. They take out the key, and-- nothing happens. He then decides that this isn't the gateway to Spear Pillar, so Team Galactic simply leaves. Wow, that’s… something. The cavern starts flooding because of damage caused to the cavern by Team Galactic's digging, so they escape on Looker's inflatable lifeboat (I don't know). Looker decides to head back to his headquarters while the heroes take Shellos back to its friends. They reunite and are happy.

Trying to pretend this is a plot episode, writers? I’m disappointed. I easily see through your trickery.

Oh, don't you worry- that's not the last instance of Dawn's Piplup being a fathead. There's still one more crucial Fathead moment to come and it's in a movie. I don't understand why more people hate him really. I went from literally hating one of Ash's pokémon to completely tolerating it because of something it does to Fathead.

Anyway regarding the present episode and not future ones, how did you like the pronunciation of Shellos? I was disappointed to learn it wasn't "Shell + ose" like nose without the 'n' and a softer 's' sound.

Shell-os sounds fine to me, though Shell-ose would be better.

… You know, honestly, in retrospect, it doesn’t surprise me that Jessie’s into that.

We start the episode with Piplup having a dream that it's defending Dawn from an angry Raikou. Uh... Piplup, look, I understand that we all have daydreams where our families are killed by Columbian drug lords or whatever, and we have to become ultimate badasses and go on 80s action movie-style rampages, but I think Raikou might be a little above your paygrade.

The heroes come to a berry orchard, and since this is definitely their business, they go to check it out. Piplup somehow gets itself injured looking at a berry too closely (I saw it, and I still don't know how it happened). A girl, Lulu, and her Marill come to check out the situation, and Piplup instantly falls in love with Marill, because that's how love works, I guess. Who hasn't fallen hopelessly in love with a rabbit in the first five seconds they saw it, is what I want to know.

Well, okay.

Lulu's family owns the orchard, but her parents are away for two days to buy some seeds, leaving her in charge. Wow, huh. I realize that different kids require babysitters for different lengths of time, but I seriously don't think most responsible parents would leave their ten year-old daughters alone for two days. Regardless, she invites them to stay with her, and gives them a tour of the orchard. Essentially, the plantation's Sunflora slaves do all of the work for her and she spends her time walking around being smug. Piplup tries to help to impress Marill; I especially like a scene where Piplup waters some plants with a bucket when it is literally capable of shooting water out of its mouth.

An Elekid pops out of the orchard and shocks Piplup, missing all of its attacks on Marill, and Ash quickly scans it with his pokedex because I guess he's never seen one before. Lulu tells the heroes that Elekid is a wild pokemon that comes aorund every so often and harasses her pokemon because it's a jerk, I guess, but Brock quickly realizes Elekid has the hots for Marill and picking on it is its way of saying hi. Pikachu leaps to fight it, but Piplup insists, and-- gets its ass kicked. Elekid leaves, laughing.

At night, Team Rocket sneaks into the field to steal some berries, but Marill catches them. It grabs Piplup to help, but while it initially performs well against Team Rocket, Elekid starts fighting it, and in the confusion, all three are captured.

Elekid, Piplup, and Marill destroy and escape the balloon, and Team Rocket chases them even though they came here to steal berries. The pokemon lose them, but like at least six hours later, Team Rocket finds them again. How? Good question. Doesn’t matter much, though, since the heroes all arrive at this point (having used Gliscor to track Piplup and Marill down). Team Rocket captures Marill, and while Elekid and Piplup do well against Team Rocket, Ash’s Grotle frees Marill, Elekid frees Marill again, and Team Rocket blasts off.

Because Elekid freed it (even though Grotle also freed it), Marill falls for it instantly, thus adding it to the long, long, long list of female characters whose only purpose is to fall in love with male characters.
