Zack Fair from Final Fantasy VII. Congratulations, ZackFAQs! You're the new champion of this contest as Squall tried to ford the river in the Whatever Wagon, but Zack was smart enough to just pay the Indians and took the Ferry.
Final Score: - Zack Fair 308 - 270 Squall Leonhart
To give some perspective:
It was tied after 100. Zack led by 20 after 200. Zack led by 3 after 300. It was tied after 400. Zack led by 9 at the end of the first topic. Zack led by 15 after 600. Zack led by 36 after 700. Zack led by 41 after 800. Zack finished with a lead of 38.
So it was never really out of hand. Had Squall supporters showed up to finish off their tens it could have been a photo finish. Zack only had 2 more unique voters than Squall.

The only issue was the long absence post drama, but you handled that the best you could. Good job FFD.
2. Top Ten was pretty stellar. I would have been good with most everyone winning. And since Zack took home the championship, I'm good.
3. I'll probably back Zack again, at least to give him a respectable finish since the "anti-winner" brigade will be after him. After that, probably Gabranth and Cloud.

Well, congrats to all you Zack Fair supporters. He's a top ten character for the series to me, so I can say he's a worthwhile winner (although not the best one). I'm glad that if Squall had to lose in the finals, it was to a great character.
I'd also like to thank everyone who supported Squall all along the way, even just a little bit, especially those who kept him afloat and helped him reach the finals when it was no longer possible for me to participate on a regular basis. I certainly can't claim much credit for this run, especially toward the end. You guys made it happen. I'd like to thank all the various people who officially through their support onto the Whatever Wagon at various points throughout the contest, especially Genny, whose partnership from an early point in the contest helped make Squall's long-term success possible. I can't adequately express my thanks to everyone enough. I had a blast participating in this contest with all (well, most) of you.
But it's never too early to start planning for next time, so I sincerely hope you will consider joining the campaign to make SMFFFCXV CRY!

Meh, best chance for one of my top 10 to win and falls short of course. Zack is a good winner out of my top 20 though I suppose, and as a combination the only time two of my top 20 have faced off in a final.
1. Was alright, outside of those long vacations here and there. Might need more variety round start time wise.
2. Much better than usual. No joke characters, no one I hate either.

4. Probably Steiner and Barret (even if he did well before, I didn't expect a repeat).

2. How did this year's Top Ten compare to others for you? uh i don't remember the top tens before i started participating. but this is the worst of the 3 where i was, by a bit. still pretty good.
3. Which character are you hoping to make a run next contest? mm i'd like to see Tidus make the finals. i feel partially at fault for him going out. of course, I'm still going with Kefka as far as possible.

I liked last year's final more even though it unfortunately had all that stupid Marche wagon stuff. I like Lightning more than Squall though so I can consider it better for that alone.

It seemed like all years passed have had something good about the top ten based on what I read. This one had a pretty good group.
3. Which character are you hoping to make a run next contest?
Quina needs some love! I will do my best to push Quina as far as possible. And I'm hoping Barret might finally win.

So many characters losing to Lightning. I thought FF13 and its cast were reviled on this board.

Absolutely. He's easily one of FF7's most important characters and I'm glad Crisis Core told his full story.

On a personal note, no. I feel Squall is an emotionless sack of garbage and I can't stand him. But I do give props to his supporters for getting him to the end. On that front, Squall deserved to be there.

I'd just prefer all good/recognizable characters get in.

It would take Squall a lot of contests to jump over Cecil and Terra even if he got consistent top 5 finishes though since they're pretty unlikely to go out early aside from rare chances.
