This contest was far, far too long. Cutting to 85 characters knocks off a full two weeks, if not more.

Unnecessary. We rarely ever had two rounds a day (a former staple of this contest) and we missed at least 2 weeks worth of rounds due to downtime for FFD.

Reducing the length of the contest reduces the chance of FFD having significant downtime during the contest.

Downtime is random and impossible to predict, so no reducing the length does not necessarily help make the contest less lengthy. And really, who cares? Why are people on this board in such a hurry?

I said from the start I wanted this to be more of a marathon than a sprint, but we'll see.

I'm probably going to try and return to 2 rounds a day, at least some days. Maybe 10 rounds a week. At 100 characters that's only 2 and a half months as opposed to four.

I don't know why you found that amusing either as I really was far less active during the run of this contest, though it was mostly a comment on the state of the contest at that time. The state of the contest now is much better and much more likely that I'll be more active next time around, assuming FFD continues to properly police it the right way.

Not allowing in things that would encourage troublemakers is a good start to keeping this contest happy and crap user free.

The shorter a given period is, the lower the probability of any given thing occurring during that period is.

I don't get the arguments for shorter contests.

Aren't you gonna be on this board anyway? Why be in a hurry for them to end, so you can visit the board for general chat? I mean, really. I suppose with a contest such as this one and Disney people are a lot more into them than mine and revolve their sleeping schedules around them, but that's your own problem in my book. Don't request shorter contests because you're too addicted to making every round.

That's kinda selfish though. The larger the pool, the more chance everyone has a good number of people they want to vote for. 100 is a nice number for the time being in my opinion; FF is very large and the current boot rules are more interesting than the old ones were.

Yeah, I don't mind having a large field. This contest is fun, so length isn't really a problem for me.

But if it is for others, then we can have a large field and have more 2-round days as a compromise.

actually i guess there was 1 character i like who went pretty far and probably wouldn't have made it in a normal field - Steiner. and Tristam went somewhat far and i guess might not have made it.

but is that worth crap like having Irvine in and Laguna booted? that never would have happened without a big expansion.

Eh, Laguna will be back. He's popular enough that he'll make the cut next time.

Less "characters" would be great sure, in the sense of barely being a character. More liberal use enforcing what can gain entry to the field would also be well appreciated (and again, I'm almost certain would eliminate some 'drama' before it even starts).

This contest had a solid top 10. I only disliked one of them (Squall) and would've been happy with five winning (Zack, Delita, Vivi, Tidus, Zell). Pretty sure that's a lot better than most years. And even disliking Squall, I kinda enjoyed the whole dynamic of his ALLIANCE setting out to bring him to the finals.
