I did.

Oh right, there are still the bonus episodes, too, I guess, but that won't take long.

I'm still working through a full replay of the series since I want to do a case ranking of my own. I still have a little of AA6 left, most of AAI2, and all of AA4. AA6 has been pretty easy to replay and AA4 should be fast and simple even though it's my least favorite, but AAI2 has felt like a bit of a slog on replay for whatever reason so it's holding me back a bit.

AAI2 is tough to get through because, even though it's fun, every case is so darn long and it's not a great game to play on an emulator.

The bonus episodes shamelessly blowing the fourth wall to smithereens is my favorite part of them, especially when Maya talks directly to the player in one instance.

Yeah, part of my issue is that I don't like playing on emulator. I don't like it in general - it's so much cozier to curl up on a couch or in bed with my 3DS as opposed to sitting in front of my computer and playing it - and then the AAI games are extra hampered by the fact that you can't switch elegantly between touch controls and button controls (and the fact that mouse controls just don't feel as good as touch controls anyway). This is why I've waited so long to replay AA4 too because I'm actually missing my copy and I don't want to settle for playing it on emu, although it should be easier just because at least it's all touch controls.

Here though, for fun, check out the notes I took on version differences for 1-1. First lines are the original and second lines are AAT:

(Larry Butz profile) "The defendant in this case. A likeable guy who was my friend in grade school." -> "The defendant in this case. A likeable guy who has been my friend since grade school."

"Isn't that your client screaming over there?" -> "Is that your client screaming over there?"

"Yeah... that's him." -> "Yeah... it's him."

"The court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Larry Butz." -> "Court is now in session for the trial of Mr. Larry Butz."

(selected Mia Fey as defendant) "Wright!" "Listen: the defendant is the one on trial--your client!"-> "Listen, Wright!" "The defendant is the one on trial--your client!"

(get victim's name wrong) "Look, the defendant's name is listed in the Court Record." -> "Look, the victim's name is listed in the Court Record."

"Let's hear your answer. Who is the victim in this case?" -> "Mr. Wright. Who is the victim in this case?"

"Examine the Court Record button if something strikes you as being suspicious." -> "Examine the Court Record if something strikes you as being suspicious."

"Then, find the evidence that contradicts his testimony, and present it to him!" -> "Then, find the evidence that contradicts his testimony, and present it to the court!"

"Indeed? The batteries are... in the right way. The clock seems to be working fine." -> "Hmm... The batteries are... in the right way. The clock seems to be working fine."

("What exactly did you mean, Mr. Wright?") "Yes, the clock was working fine!" -> "That the clock was working fine!"

"Y-yes, Your Honor, As I was saying..." -> "Y-yes, Your Honor! A-as I was saying...!"

"Yes, Your Honor." -> "Y-Your Honor." ("The sound Mr. Sahwit heard was definitely this clock.") (After getting answer wrong and going back)

"Uh-oh... what's he talking about?" -> "Uh-oh... what's he talking about now?" (In response to Frank Sahwit saying Phoenix forgot something)

("I come all the way here to testify, and look what happens!") "They treat me like a criminal! A criminal!" -> "You treat me like a criminal! A criminal!"

"Huh...? Where'd you get that clock?" "This is the clock you made for her, Larry!" "She took it with her when she traveled." "Hmm, she probably just needed a clock, that's all." -> "Huh...? What about that clock?" "This is the clock YOU made for her, Larry!" "And she took it with her when she traveled." "Whatever. She probably just needed a clock, that's all."

"But I'm pretty sure he's not going to pay me. Unless you count the clock he gave Mia." -> "But I'm pretty sure he's not going to pay us. Unless you count the clock he gave Mia."

not doing them in order, para?

it hurts AAI2 that you have to play it on an emulator (for me). i really like the games' being portable. i actually like the 3DS games less in part due to the handheld device being so much bigger. (the general slowness of things also detracts from its 'portable' feeling.)

I feel like a lot of it is just because you're used to the original translation.

Some of those changes feel unnecessary though, like having Phoenix stutter a little more in one of those instances.

hmm, the further i read, the more i liked the changes. i posted that having read only the first half. those first lines seemed better in the original (especially the one-two of 'isn't that your client' / 'that's him'). the later corrections feel more correct/natural

A lot of the lines seem to have to do with like, slightly awkward usage of pronouns or sentence subjects. I was really amused by the change from presenting the evidence directly to Sahwit himself instead of to the court, for instance. "Not going to pay us" makes more sense too given the next line being about Mia, although "not going to pay me, except for the clock he gave Mia" is funny in its own right because it's even more sarcastic (I didn't get paid, except for something he gave someone else).

I think the conversation with Larry about the clock at the end is a lot better in the AAT version, but I do like "isn't that your client" more than "is that your client" because it makes Mia sound more like she's aware of what's going on as opposed to simply asking Phoenix a question.

And here's an incomplete list of 1-2 stuff up halfway through the first trial day, which is where I eventually put it down. This is kinda making me want to revisit this, although it's a ton of work, and I really try to catch EVERY little change, even down to minor capitalization fixes:

(Mia) "Sorry, I've been so busy. How you been?" -> "Sorry, I've been so busy. How've you been?"

"I have to check and see if Mia... the Chief's okay!" -> I have to check and see if Mia... the chief's okay!"

"I didn't mean to trouble you..." -> "I didn't mean to insult you..." (This is after Maya talks about what she heard from Mia about Phoenix needing three more years experience)

"But... at the same time, I can't just sit and watch!" -> "But... at the same time, I can't just sit by and watch!"

"Nobody could get a hold of him!" -> "Nobody could get a hold of him..." (Referring to Grossberg)

"Hmm... funny... they don't look like they've ever been read." -> "Hmm... Funny... They don't look like they've ever been read."

"They say that E.S.P. runs in our blood." -> "They say a lotta spiritual power runs in our blood." (Note: Phoenix refers to it as ESP earlier in both scripts, but Maya never refers to it that way in the new script)

"I had to become independent, or I would lose my E.S.P.!" -> "I had to become independent, or I would lose my powers!"

"Hmm... if I tell him why I want it there's no way he'll give it to me!" -> "If I tell him why I want it, there's no way he'll give it to me!" (Referring to Maya's cell phone)

(Blue text) "Received: Maya's Cell Phone." -> "Maya's Cell Phone received from Detective Gumshoe."

"If you want to know, you'll just have to come to the court tomorrow, Mr. Lawyer!" -> "If you want to know, you'll just have to come to court tomorrow, Mr. Lawyer!"

"Me... "the witness"! It's just like the movie!" -> "Me... "the witness"! It's just like in the movies!"

"The court is now in session for the trial of Ms. Maya Fey." -> "Court is now in session for the trial of Ms. Maya Fey."

(Edgeworth) "You may call your first witness." -> "If we may call our first witness, Your Honor." ("The prosecution calls the chief officer at the scene, Detective Gumshoe!")

(Edgeworth, following Gumshoe messing up the term 'hemoglobin') "I think you can expect a pleasant bonus in your next pay check." "Oh? Oh hoh hoh." -> "I look forward to your next evaluation. As should you." "...O-oh..."

"Someone who died immediately wouldn't have the time to write anything down." -> "Someone who died immediately wouldn't have had the time to write anything down."

(Selected "I'm a sham!") ("Detective Gumshoe.") "Are you calling me a fool because I believed your report?" "Huh? Me? I-I'm not... huh?" -> "Was I a fool to trust you and your report?" "Huh? Me? I-I wasn't... huh?"

"The witness will refrain from wonton winking!" -> "The witness will refrain from wanton winking!"

"(She's already captured the heart of every man in the court!)" -> "(She's already captured the heart of every man in this courtroom!)"

I think I remember that one, too, yeah.

I think one of my biggest peeves is when the name listed on the textbox is wrong, which AA is usually good about avoiding. I think there's maybe only one instance of it in the OT, and it happens a couple of times in the newer games.

As opposed to something like Danganronpa, where it happens all the time.

While this topic's still here, going to mention that I kind of wish I had done a watchthrough topic of DGS after all. It's pretty great! (I did finish it a while back, just forgot to mention that here.)
I guess I could still do one of DGS2 when that gets released and the youtube subs for it are out... eventually...
