How many people here have played "Jump ultimate Stars" on DS? Its pretty much an anime version of Smash bros. I think it had 50 something characters & then like over 200 support characters!

I don't really hear to many people talk about it... which is a same considering how great it is. It was only released in Japan so that's probably a big factor in why its not too popular in other countrys.

I loved that game, beat all the way through and its the best alternative to smash brothers that I have ever seen.

I was lucky enough to have played a english patched version of the game

Yeah, I used a English patch for JUS too. It really is 1 of the best crossover games I've ever played.

Always wished they had made a PSP version though... with it playing kind of like Dissidia 012 or something...

Speaking of english patches, it looks like the team working on Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED, is finally translating the whole game!

I can't tell you how long I've been waiting for ANY news about this game. Endless Frontier was one of my favorite DS games, and I was super bummed out when I learned we wouldn't get the sequel.

Can't wait to finally play this game!

After a quick Google, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga: Endless Frontier EXCEED on DS sound like a really great game! I can't really tell if its a turn based tactical RPG like the GBA games, or if this DS title uses a realtime action RPG battle system though...

I see there's a bunch of other Super Robot Taisen games on DS, anyone have any experience with em?

the two OG Saga games are timing/combo-centric RPG, very similar to Project X Zone if you've ever played it (in fact, there's some universe crossover between them)

PXZ also uses some SRPG elements inspired by SRW for the map stuff though

any other SRW games you run into are all turn based strategy games, similar kind of to Fire Emblem (SRW is more forgiving of deaths than FE, but SRW is probably tougher in general). the only other oddity is one fighting game they made for the PS3

I know one SRW game on the 3DS has Demonbane in it... I wanna play it someday >_>

The only experience I have with SRT (and SRW) games is Endless Frontier for the DS. (EXCEED is the sequel to Frontier).

It's actually a standalone spin-off of the main SRW games. Instead of being a tactical grid-based rpg, Frontier is more of a traditional dungeon crawling, world map traversing, random-encounter battle JRPG.

SRW is pretty awesome but only OG stuff has been localized for the most part which is a shame. The main draw of the series is the crazy crossover story mixing all sorts of different mecha anime stories into one clusterfuck plot where you might have nadesico pilots fighting actual super robots and geeking about them or UC vs g gundams. I think I've only played J of the fan localized games but it was pretty awesome. Some of them are pretty brutally difficult compared to the average tactical rpg although stacking seishin and the right bonuses can be pretty OP.

This is obviously not counting the frontier spinoff that is a more traditional rpg but I haven't played it. It also got some pretty lackluster anime adaptations (the OG tactical rpg games).

EDIT: forgot to mention, i didn't pick an anime and instead started recettear. Capitalism ho! Despite my enthusiasm my first "loop" ended with me living in a cardboard box. I really like how they tied in the NG+ with the scene they did. I'm on the 3rd payment now and already have the 80k with 4 or so days left to go. I don't think I'm gonna survive the final payment but I might survive the 4th. I might just convert everything to stock and fail the 4th on purpose. I am up to merchant level 16 at least and working my way through the 3rd dungeon. All the other adventurers seem kinda useless behind the OP louie since he is already level 21 and the others die in 2-4 hits meanwhile everything does 1-4 damage to him.

Well my username alone should answer that but: One piece > Dragon ball > > > > Bleach > Naruto, One piece is still going strong after all these years, Dragon ball has nostalgia in spades and is fun to watch. Bleach and Naruto started off well but ran out of steam too quickly, also you didn"t include it but I'd put Hunter X Hunter next to One piece as I really enjoyed it, I'm sure that The Seven Deadly Sins will rank highly for me when S2 of it airs as I really liked S1 of it.

definitely One Piece. I have read more of the manga than actually watching episodes though.
Same goes for the rest of them.
I haven't watched Naruto at all and read a bunch of the manga instead and lost interest. I have never liked Bleach but I read a bunch of the manga to get the gist of it and I have never been really interested in Dragon Ball. I appreciate it and think its cool but I preferred Yu Yu Hakusho more.

Of those I'd consider one piece to be far and away the best but they all still suffer from some of the same problems. In one piece however, the sheer adventure and interesting world as well as so many very personal stories does its best to provide a reason to watch despite the typical shonen pitfalls. I actually watched about 100 eps of naruto a few months back and it was better than I thought it'd be. It's world is more interesting than I had given it credit for before watching it but its just so damn inconsistent in quality. Some of the arcs are quite solid but some are just awful. Also power creep ruined the fighting rather quickly and I hear it only gets much much worse later on. Bleach's first big arc was actually totally solid and if the show ended there I'd be tempted to say it was a pretty a good anime. It doesn't end there though and it kinda just trails off into irrelevance. Power creep also ruined the fights pretty hard.

Dragonball probably shouldn't be looked at with those 3 as its from quite a bit earlier. It's been too long since I've seen it to comment much on the original dragonball but dbz's problems are quite well known. It came at a time before power creep in shonens was even really a thing and didn't exactly handle it well. Movements actually graphically get slower and explosions smaller despite the characters getting stronger because there was just no way to animate faster or bigger without looking dumb. At a certain point its just 2 specs moving faster than the eye can see accidentally destroying planets with every slight movement. To avoid that, the just had to sorta go backwards and change colors (of energy and explosions). Considering the writer was apparently making it up as he went and didn't even know goku was gonna be an alien before he introduced vegeta its remarkably coherent and the nostalgia is still pretty strong.

HxH is like a writer said "hey, shonen, but without all the stuff that makes shonens nearly unwatchable" and it was amazing. Unfortunately good writing is apparently detrimental to ones health so its always on hiatus, like berserk.

Pokemon is still the best adventure show I can think of (well the first season anyway). The fact that the unique element in it's fantasy world (the pokemon) are so interwoven into every aspect of everything as well as the unique cultures in world it creates does its best to make me wanna explore that world for myself. Despite the games being awesome, it is kinda unfortunate how the adventure feeling is considerably lessened.

In recettear news it turns out making bank is easier than I realized and I'm sitting on a nice 750k pix with 5 days to go. I could probably make another mil before the payment is due but I'm mostly just taking it easy. Once you have a real stockpile of money and can afford to buy out something like sweets when they are cheap and then sell them all when they are high price you make like 400k just off that which 50% of what you need to make in the 5 weeks to begin with. I guess its also important to up the rep so people actually have the budget to buy things and the merchant level so the shops sell the expensive stuff. Melons OP.

UGH! WHYYYY do I keep reading these damned isekai mangas!?

I just stumbled upon three different isekai titles, two of them revolve around the protagonist being a "villager" class, and the other one has the protag immediately inherit the throne of a country after he got summoned.

With those three, the number of isekai mangas I'm reading has jumped up to 15. That's FIFTEEN different, still publishing manga and all of them revolve around being summoned/reincarnated to another world.

I think I have a problem.

I think another reason I like Dragon ball so much are the games. Im really into gaming & DB games are usually amazing, not just talking about the fighters, the RPG's & Platformer on GBA for example are awesome.

BTW, do you refer to "Dragon ball" & "Dragon ball Z" separately, by using the "Z"? In Japan the whole series, from when Goku was a kid, till the Majin Buu saga, is just referred to as Dragon ball. The Z got added to divide the series between when Goku was a kid & when he was a adult, when it was localized for America. I have absolutely no idea why they did that...

Went on a manga kick yesterday after discovering Magical Girl Apocalypse.

Read the bulk of Soil (which has a lot of shitty recurring gags but also a neat narrative), Tales of the Unusual (mostly garbage), some Outer Zone (weak TZ ripoff), and a few others.

The one I was most impressed by was Shibito no Koe o Kiku ga Yoi (aka You Will Hear the Voice of the Dead). Other than finding the manga, can't seem to get a lot of info about it since it doesn't seem to have a wikipedia page, etc.

The hot spring and vending machine ones are Light Novels only though.

And as with almost all Light Novel titles, their names are stupidly long and direct to the point.

I recall hearing...something, about season 2 of one punch man. I'm not sure what it was though. Maybe I can find it again. Usually MALs subforums for the previous season have some kind "season 2?" thread that often has relevant info. Sometimes.

EDIT: https://myanimelist.net/news/47909395

One punch man season 2 announced apparently. I don't think we have a concrete date. Don't think we even know if its by the same studio or not.

EDIT 2: Seems the manga is in a bit of a tricky spot adaptation wise where they will have trouble providing a comparable conclusion to season 1 in just 1 cour. People were debating whether or not it would have to split into 2 cours or perhaps have the "garou" arc shortened for the anime. Might have something to do with season 2 taking so long to come out and afaik we still don't have an actual air date.

Ugh. My heart! :(

It's always a big gut punch to your feels whenever a comedy/gag manga suddenly turns all serious and sad. Add to the fact that the author of Jitsu wa Watashi wa is a master at storytelling and timing, and it's just... damn. This arc is SO GOOD and yet SO SAD at the same time. I love it and hate it.

Yeah, getting past your guard with light hearted fun times leaves your weakspots open for the writer to land those emotional crits. Gets me every time.
