Aren't the persona games generally known for being easier than mainline SMT games? Only SMT game I've played (aside from like 10 minutes of persona 1) was nocturne. Definitely some bullshit in there but still totally doable. I don't like the only level up to a point and then needing to fuse or however it worked. I don't think I actually finished nocrtune though but IIRC I was most of the way through when I got bored.

@YoukaiSlayer I played a bit (about 7 to 10 hours) of Shin magami tenshi Devil survivor 2 on DS (Great game) & its definitely much harder then Persona 3 on PSP.

@helly is the whole Fairy tail series ending, manga & anime, or just the anime?

I was playing Fairy Tail Kardia Daiseidou on DS today. Its a great 2D fighter that plays very much like Jump Ultimate Stars & Smash bros. It has 35 characters from across the Fairy Tail universe & is so far the only Fairy Tail fighting game I know of. Do you know of any others?

Was also playing Bleach Dark Souls on DS, its REALLY good. 44 characters including Hollows, that roster is just great, & the gameplay & graphics is top notch for DS. I expected nothing less from Treasure, they make such good games.

BTW, Im thinking of getting Bleach heat the soul 7 for PSP, have any of you played it?

The only thing about Deep Space Waifu is that it can a little tricky to shoot the things that are trying to kill you while, um, accomplishing the stage objectives. It's easy to get distracted.

For the most part, yes, but only after Persona 1, which still plays very much like old school SMT. I had a toilet demon blow up in my face yesterday; that is, she used Last Resort to reduce everybody in my party to 1 HP, and the other monsters picked 'em off like it was nothing. That was a random encounter. In the overworld, not in a dungeon. On Easy level. *facepalms* That kind of bullshit is very much old school SMT.

I rate P1 as easier than Strange Journey, but harder than Soul Hackers due to how the (unnecessarily convoluted) combat system works, coupled with much more dangerous status effects and immunities that the game does not tell you. Still like the game, but I have to put it down from time to time and play something else when I get a total party wipe.

I uploaded the pics from the convention.

I didn't get as many cosplay pics as I thought I would, but there's some of that, and things I bought/won. (Including a cleverly placed light censor and a Sho 'Nuff cosplay from the movie The Last Dragon.) It sucks that I didn't get to see the finished Death Note chalk mural.

Also, Avanchick goes pretty hard. It's not what I would typically listen to, but I dug the concert. (But I just Googled them again and found out that they're disbanding within a few months...)

Nooooooooo!

Kaguya-sama got licensed!

I mean, it's good that the manga is getting more recognition in the west, and that the mangaka is getting even more money to support his work...

But that means no fan translations of new chapters anymore!

I have to actually WAIT until they get enough chapters to make a tankoubon before they localize it. And even then... I don't have the money to BUY it when it does come out!

Hopefully another group will decide to pick it up despite licensing, but the chances of that are very slim.

Yup. Jag, the main translator (and lord of scanlating memes) in charge of the manga, has stated that he's gonna stop.

There is a ray of hope though since Jaimini's Box Scans (who are doing Black Clover, One Piece, MHA and others) have expressed interest in picking up the series.

Oh god, The Reflection was truly something else.

cool, bad, bad, bad, bad, ha!, bad, bad.

The first episode of it aired today, and I was looking forward to see what this had because Stan Lee is collaborating with this. I can't recall another first episode as atrocious as this. Dude should just stick with cameos, and I'd much much rather watch any western superhero cartoons over this.

Aesthetic is neat. That's the only thing going for it. The actual animation feels on par with amateur flash animation. It really lacks fluidity, and has nothing meritable aside from it's aesthetic. I'd say about 1 in 5 animation cuts doesn't feel terrible. 1/3rd through the episode, I sped up the playback to 1.25x normal speed, and it still feels a tad slow. Also, there's a whole lot of fat chewing with lingering shots which is fine if there's something cinematic, but here they're wasting seconds holding the camera on uninteresting shots with nothing for you to think about.

Premise has nothing interesting, which would be acceptable if everything else was at least mediocre. I don't even care to see if it gets interesting because the feel of the show is just so terrible.

Using my Kindle to marathon New Game! and get into the second season. I think I'm becoming a bit of an animation snob, honestly. New Game! has very clean, pretty animation, and I really wish the newer shows I'm watching looked that nice. Especially the harem-y junk like Smartphone and Gyaru. (I swear Gyaru recycles the same protag-kun design from Hentai Prince and Noucome.)

Also, I don't know which I ship more: Aoba / Hifumi, Aoba / Ko, or Rin / Ko. (Maybe Hajime / Aoba's a thing, too.)

So I stumbled upon another gem of a manga today.

It's not often that Japan makes manga or anime that relates to american culture; much less, the old west. But I found this:

t9ZuK7X

It's about a guy in the wild west, a skilled gunslinger, and renowned sheriff. But, he only got his skills because he thought ladies would love it and he wanted to be popular with women!

It's pretty good.

*slight spoilers*

I don't remember too well, but basically, at a certain point one character's past was revealed, and it was heavily implied that they may not be a virgin. Cue MASSIVE fan outrage and crying, with many swearing off the series forever.

That kind of unhealthy obsession with fictional characters, combined with putting strict unrealistic standards on an already unreal person, is what disgusts me about Japanese (and some non-Japanese) otaku. That's where the whole "waifu" thing stops being funny/cute. It's also why I'm against the very concept of idols.

In no universe do you have to play visual novels to be an Otaku, that's like saying you can't be a gamer if you don't play Halo.

That being said, I just never heard of anyone calling visual novels "VN" I have played a couple though. I prefer RPG's or action oriented games more though, to me Visual novels just feel kinda pointless, I'd rather just read a manga.

visual novels aren't equatable to one single series; they are a massively popular medium. less so outside of japan, but otaku isn't really a term applied to people living outside of japan except ironically

so it'd be more like you need to broaden your horizons if you only play Nintendo games

visual novels also allow more of a first person experience, like a book. rather than just watching things play out, it feels a lot more personal as you get to connect to the protagonist's thoughts and feelings more

besides, visual novels have audio and music, and when properly integrated they really ups the experience. if one of the two had to be pointless, it'd be manga. manga has great art, but it's just so much less.. which is also a strength, since it can be shit out more regularly

All mediums have pros and cons. Visual Novels are more akin to books than manga or anime. IMO, what they offer that other mediums don't, is that they have immersive audio/visual experience similar to anime, but prose akin to books. You really get into the heads of characters and detailing ideas, which anime/manga don't have time for.

It's fine to not like visual novels. I don't read books because I'm not inclined to read books, but I'm not saying books have no merits. You have to consider that visual novels and light novels are geared specifically for Otaku.

On another page, the Persona series is pretty unique, it's very much a game, but also very much a visual novel. This makes me think about Mass Effect series differently too, as it certainly has aspects of visual novels.

Quoting for truth. No amount of anime / manga can quite replicate the sheer amount of content that a VN delivers. ... Though that can be a good thing, sometimes. (I don't need "Breakfast With Shiro" every single day!)

over the past decade or so, a lot of regular games have taken up aspects of visual novels, and a lot of visual novels have been incorporating "real" gameplay. i think it's pretty great

I think manga has a little more wiggle room for internal monologue than anime, at least. You can fit several sentences into just two thought bubbles, which doesn't seem so bad in the middle of an action scene. Try to do the same thing in an anime and everyone just looks silly standing around.

I probably need to try some more VNs but its slower pace throws me off. I don't really want to sit around reading 2 thought bubbles in the middle of a fight. Let their actions subtly show what they are thinking instead. Anime (or any video media) has a lot more time to show subtle quick cuts without explicitly focusing on them. Granted they usually still narrate the thoughts killing the pacing and completely ignore trying to convey anything subtly but you know....in theory I guess.

I feel VNs real strengths are in the routes and agency. Sometimes its easy to find yourself wondering what if in an anime and a lot of the time VNs would have your back there and let you find out. I like that aspect of them.

I enjoy games that have elements of a visual novel, but then still contain actual gameplay, Persona & Shin megami tensei is a VN, but also a full blown RPG. Trauma center on DS was kinda a visual novel, but it was also a surgeon simulator. The World Ends With You on DS is a VN but it still contained actual gameplay.

I don't like VN's because they usually don't have a story I am into, or because there just isn't any input or gaming skills required to actually "Play" them. If I wanted to read a book, I would actually read a book. I actually read alot of books, there's WAY more variety in books, novels & manga, then there is in VN.

Of Course, if they made a VN based on a anime I like, I might be interested, but still, Id rather play an action or RPG game based of a anime I like.

If VN's are so great, suggest one you think I should play.

Realistically higurashi or umineko would probably be pretty good VNs. Higurashi got a fantastic anime adaptation and umineko....not so much. Also just realized that umineko (seagull) is just sea (umi) and cat (neko). Lol.

I know Muv Luv is regarded highly (VNs only, anime is a side story or something? I think?). Obviously fate is the big VN series although its pretty fucking long and its kinda hard to know which order to tackle things in.

I have read none of those, just going by popular opinion.

I think VNs are boring, Ive tried a few, but its not for me though I can see why people would like them.

Re-started Hunter X Hunter, I think Im finally hooked, took getting to the 3rd phase of the hunter exam (tower phase).
