...is that there were a lot of closeted trans people in the military who came out after the ban was lifted, and now they are going to lose their careers

The only way the electoral college makes sense is is New York City (city not state) counts for 1000 electoral votes.

The most messed up part is that it goes against FtM when FtM is strictly an improvement. It makes perfect sense to ban MtF since MtF decreases muscle mass through blocking testosterone, but you *want* stronger, faster soldiers so giving testosterone to women transitioning to men makes sense.

i just want to quote this absurdity because wooooooooooooow

It also seems you don't realize that not all military careers are front line or combat. Many will never see combat

Doesn't really matter, does it? Even if you're working on a coast guard ship, having greater muscle mass makes you more physically able to do tasks. Improved muscle mass is pretty much always a benefit. And, while not all military roles see active combat, having more muscular guards and reserves is a net benefit.

Most jobs in the military really have nothing to do with muscle mass. Or brain cells. Or really anything that many regular jobs don't require

And the cool thing is you can be in shape without having as much muscle mass.

I'm following his logic. If he feels the military is worse off with MtF because of loss of muscles, and gains from FtM because of increased muscle mass, it stands to reason from that perspective biological females from birth would be the worst option.

Again, his reasoning is absurd.

Women are undeniably less physically capable than men. Obviously there are outliers on both sides, but the average man would dominate the average woman in anything physical.

Neither the average man nor the average woman will be attaining a physically demanding position in the military, though. Averages are largely irrelevant. There are already physical fitness criteria in place for service members; no need to add another layer to that by bringing gender into the mix.

http://thehill.com/policy/defense/344107-joint-chiefs-chairman-no-change-in-transgender-policy-until-trump-sends

The highest-ranking military officer in the country said that the military’s transgender policy won’t actively change until President Trump sends specific directions to the Pentagon.

“There will be no modifications to the current policy until the president’s direction has been received by the secretary of defense and the secretary has issued implementation guidance,” Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford wrote in a letter.

Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin said Wednesday that he "was not aware" that President Donald Trump would announce on Twitter that he was barring transgender people from serving in the military.

---
"Certainly, when you personalize care, there are added costs," Shulkin said. “Transgender veterans do require staff that are trained to be able to deal with their situation appropriately so that they can get the care that they want with the dignity and the outcomes that they deserve.”

Shulkin said he believed that the VA would able to handle an influx of transgender veterans when they are no longer able to serve.

"I don't see this as a major complication for us. I think that it's important that veterans know that the VA is a safe place to get their care," he told Cosby, adding, that "we value and respect the dignity of all our veterans."

Shulkin said he is not “overly concerned” about shifts in funding, though his department must still fully grasp the impact of this change to make adjustments as necessary. He said while the requirements for serving changed, the support after serving remains steadfast.

“Once a person signs up to defend our country, they have to know that the VA is there and committed to them through the end of their life," he said in the interview.

i feel bad for anybody who voted trump thinking he wouldnt be that bad in terms of stuff like this.

Thats what I heard a lot of his fans say pre election. Oh he wont be so bad in terms of this, that and the other thing when its trump and his views, thoughts and beliefs change like a dang chameleon.

But thats okay, this move further entrenches his hardcore base while alienating people who likely didnt like trump anyways. doesnt do much to harm the guy, so in that regard, he won!!! well, despite the fact this isnt even a law or official at this point and the pentagon said they need further direction before anything happens. but hey, what could amount to an empty gesture doesnt matter to his base. Though if the gesture turns out to be empty and its never made official or w/e, his fans will say "well it didnt even get set in stone, so trump isnt that bad" as if trying, yet failing to do something bad makes you an okay guy.

The only good thing to say about trump on this issue is that all the other republicans would be worse. I never expected trump to fight for LGBT people, but I didnt expect him to actively take rights away like this.
