I don't buy that. I think she's saying it to manipulate Jamie.

...though Qyburn was there so maybe.

Maybe she purposefully got pregnant again so she could manipulate Jamie.

Either way, she's doing it for her and not them.

Jaime Lannister is early 2002 HHH

The crowd want to cheer him but his wife is such a bitch. Then she pretends to be pregnant and that's the moment it turns

Episode was kind of all over the place. Glad Jaime and Bronn are alive even though it didn't make sense.

Most important thing though is when they set up the meeting, The Hound will be in King's Landing which means CLEGANEBOWL FUCKING CONFIRMED

also if arya falls for littlefinger's plot it's so dumb. really outside her very first meeting with sansa arya would have been better off if she really had turned around again and gone to KL

They haven't been marching continuously. They detoured to the 3ER's cave, for one thing. And they could've started marching from the Fist of the First Men. For whatever reason, they've continuously bided their time and grown their ranks til now.

It's kind of a downer though, yes.

I think the goal is to capture a wight. But yeah, the idea seems absurd. They're going on a suicide mission.

Worse yet, Dany and Cersei are somehow laying down arms at a critical juncture during their war so we can focus on this?

Easily the worst episode of the season so far. I really feel like episodes like this kind of highlight the weaknesses in writing the show has since abandoning the books:

- Bronn effortlessly pulling up Jaime? Yeah, fuck off. Last episode ended with a long shot of Jaime sinking to the bottom, clad in plate. Bronn pulls Jaime up what seems to be a ways away from the battlefield. How did this go off without a hitch? People in this thread have been saying Arya has plot armor, nonsense I say; every book POV character has plot armor.

- While I understand Dany's reasoning against captives, surely she must see that this army will not fight well for her? Does she not remember how poorly just burning guys in Meereen went for her?

- Tyrion: "We've already lost one great House!" Come on Tyrion, step it up. Tarlys aren't even a great House. Martell, Baratheon, Tyrell. Get with it. Maybe he already knew about Gendry at that point but still, Martells and Tyrells rings true, unless there is a secret baby Arianne or Quentyn for an epilogue.

- Sad we didn't get a scene of Qyburn getting shamed for his pissy Scorpions.

- The entire point of the loot train sequence was to also heavily show all the Lannister supplies getting wrecked. How is this not mentioned in the episode, at least once?

- Dany's bitchface at Jon's "Beautiful is not the word I'd use" was amazing.

- JORAAAAAAH. Wasted this entire episode. You would think he would be used to advise Dany against burning people or forming another connection between Jon and Dany (Sam + Tarlys as mentioned above, Mormont + Aemon Targaryen). No, let's just send him off to go fighting because that's 'cool'. Lame.

- I agree with ExTha. I understand you cut up travel times to make the show flow better, but the slow progress of the Others (when you know the wights are actually terrifyingly fast zombies) compared to the teleportation the humans have mastered is just stupid.

- I don't really understand why Jon can't make a little pitstop in Winterfell to see Arya and Bran before 'possibly' dying so he can maybe take some extra men with him as opposed to 7 guys for one corpse, but eh. The bringing back the corpse plot probably confirms Cleganebowl, which I always thought was a completely idiotic concept and I'm somewhat frustrated the show has actually decided to run with it.

- Arya is such a dumb ****. "Just behead them". Like Cersei and Joffrey would, you mean? How easy it is to make a character so smart and then so stupid just to fit your writing.

- Tyrion and Jaime meeting was so lackluster I have trouble wrapping my head around why they even bothered to do it in the first place.

- I already knew Gendry was returning with an eagle-eyed look at the opening credits but I don't really understand why. I thought for a moment Davos was going to use him to rally the Stormlords, but I guess if we don't mention Storm's End and the Stormlands nobody will remember they exist? Him going with Jon to Beyond the Wall makes me feel like we might actually have a kind of genocidal endgame, where only the peasants survive but all the Great Houses are completely wiped out. Why else bring back Gendry if not to give a definitive end to House Baratheon?

- Davos, thankfully, is a character who's still as good in the show as he is in the books. Gendry warhammer was great as well. Tyrion thinking he could just pass by the Gold Cloaks without a problem is the dumbest thing he's done in the entire show and another example of lazy writing.

- No way Cersei is pregnant. Not in a million years.

- Jon and Gendry now: Our dads were mates!
Jon and Gendry later: Our dads were enemies!

- Dany definitely didn't want Jon to go

- Sam ignoring the Rhaegar statement was dumb. Him leaving Oldtown is dumb.

- Arya being dumb is dumb.

- Scenes at Eas****ch were funny, at least.

Sansa should behead people because they said they wanted Jon to come back home, and apparently this is them talking... bad... about Jon? by saying they want him around???? and Sansa is somehow doing something wrong by not seizing power and just waiting patiently for Jon to return??????

also Littlefinger is apparently being suspicious because he was..... talking to people?????????????

like I know I've hammered on the whole "Littlefinger is somehow evil because he's attracted to Sansa, even though everyone is attracted to Sansa" but this really brought it to a whole new level. Littlefinger is suspicious because he has conversations with people. even though everyone has conversations with each other all the time all day long every day.

Arya is super-defensive of Jon. She's not acting logically (as articulating this is a self-fulfilling prophecy), but she's also not wrong that Sansa secretly hopes she can stay Lady of Winterfell. I actually enjoyed this.

also Littlefinger is apparently being suspicious because he was..... talking to people?????????????

like I know I've hammered on the whole "Littlefinger is somehow evil because he's attracted to Sansa, even though everyone is attracted to Sansa" but this really brought it to a whole new level. Littlefinger is suspicious because he has conversations with people. even though everyone has conversations with each other all the time all day long every day.

Everyone is suspicious of Littlefinger. Arya just decided to follow him. He obviously is developing a spy network (the discreet payment is a clear indicator of under-the-table dealings), and he seems to be going around Sansa's back with his request to Maester Wolkan.

But honestly, we're talking about an Arya whose life has been determined by paranoia and violence. How did she solve the waif? How did she solve the Freys? Bloody murder. What was her biggest regret about Harrenhal? Not ordering the hit on Tywin Lannister. She does not really understand politics. I think this type of division between Arya and Sansa makes perfect sense.

And in the end, Littlefinger is plotting against the Starks. Hell, it's possible that Arya suspects Littlefinger and Sansa are conspiring together against Jon. Arya's smart to be suspicious of this new ally from the South (!!), she just didn't think that extra step ahead and got horribly played by LF.

Gregor Clegane isn't stated to be dead in the show.

But in any case, the threat of the Army of the Dead is clearly not that they're dead people, but that the people they kill join their army. The Mountain can be controlled nicely, in part because when he kills people they go away. That's what makes the threat so dangerous.

But even Cersei were aware of this threat, do you really think she'd care enough to send help North instead of taking advantage of the opportunity to assassinate Dany?

Alliser Thorne did in both the shows and the books, which is why he was absent for all of Seasons 2 and 3. In the books, Tyrion laughs at his decayed hand (which they mention in 7x05 in the Chamber of the Painted Table IIRC) in Book 2, but I don't think we ever see the scene in the show.

no I mean I understand that TYRION thought that she wouldn't believe it. I just don't see where Cersei ever confirmed that she didn't believe it, or how it seemed like she was having a hard time believing it. Jaime goes and tells her and... she's immediately talking about it as if it is true. so it seems like she did believe it pretty easily.

"Dead men, dragons, dragon queens. Whatever stands in our way we will defeat it."

this doesn't sound like someone who is having a hard time believing it. she just immediately accepted it once Jaime mentioned it. heck, she even states that she only agreed to Dany's terms because they were going to lose the war and this was a convenient way for her to take a break while thinking of a clever way to defeat Dany.

tyrion also has a pretty horrible track record when it comes to predicting Cersei's thoughts and behaviors.

I don't mind the white walkers taking forever. I did mind the Bronn/Jaime river stuff.

It feels like the characters will be having an important conversation and we either cut away from it during a tense moment, or some convenient interruption occurs to break the tension/plot.

At least Gilly probably read the part of the book that Sam got all whiny about.

I liked the episode but the conveniences are adding up. Only 8 episodes left so I suppose it'll all wash out pretty soon.

Basically they go to KL, Cersei tries to murder Jon/Dany with zombie Gregor and The Hound steps up. With the winks they have made to the audience about Gendry's rowing and whatnot, I think it's clear D&D pay attention to fan memes and stuff. I don't think they're above giving us Cleganebowl just because we really want it, and that's fine with me. And honestly let's be real, it's not like zombie Gregor is surviving the series.

Thanks - I probably caught that correctly, then.

Also, Jon literally marks himself for death with a weird showrunner verbal tic - he tells Dany 'I wish you good fortune in the wars to come.' The same line is said by Mance Rayder in 5x01 before he's executed, and by Ser Arthur Dayne at the Tower of Joy. It's never said in the books. I don't know why the showrunners think it's clever to have this unrelated phrase show up so many times...

I wish Bronn and Jaime got captured. It would've skipped over a lot of the unnecessary shitting about to get to KL and everything. The only things we would've missed out on there are the Gendry scene and another scene with Cersei telling Jaime not to betray her but at the same time being pregnant. Those could've been moved around.

This would have given Dany an olive branch to offer to Cersei to make her trust more sensible, or she could just have Jaime deliver the wight after they get it.

I mean, it makes sense for Cersei to acknowledge that the war is lost and she has to win through subterfuge, but this would have more securely marked that Dany is in the position of power, Cersei has to agree to her terms, but gives her time to scheme.

They're obviously trying to set Jaime up to slowly lose faith in Cersei, but it feels pretty sloppy.

Entirely agreed. And this also gives Tyrion something cooler to do. Negotiating with Dany to send Jaime back to King's Landing would have been perfect - a Lannister paying his debts to his brother, sending an olive branch to Cersei, and no contrived hiding-from-Qyburn secret meeting. In such a case you can still have the whatever pregnancy scene.
