The Iron Islands are definitely one of the seven kingdoms

Aside from House Targaryen's island "kingdom" of Dragonstone, the continent of Westeros was ruled by seven monarchs at the time of Aegon's Landing:

Torrhen Stark, King in the North.
Ronnel Arryn, King of Mountain and Vale.
Harren Hoare, King of the Isles and the Rivers.
Loren I Lannister, King of the Rock.
Mern IX Gardener, King of the Reach.
Argilac Durrandon, the Storm King.
Meria Martell, Princess of Dorne.

The Iron Islands were part of the Riverlands.

The Iron Islands were part of the Riverlands.

IIRC, Harrenhal which was the "capital" of the Iron Islands/Riverlands kingdom was built/run by an Iron Islands family. The Iron Islands had control of what is now the Riverlands. When Aegon came to Westeros his dragons melted Harrenhal pretty badly (recall its state in S2) and gave control of the kingdom to the Tullys. Henceforth the "capital" was Riverrun and control was exerted from the mainland over the Iron Islands rather than the reverse.

that's off the top of my head though, haven't delved into the lore in a while

But historically the Iron Islands were the kingdom. The whole "making the eight" joke explicitly has the Riverlands as the eight with the other seven being the traditional Seven Kingdoms.

She controls the Rock, the Iron Islands (sorta), and maybe the Stormlands? (and now the Reach but that was after that comment.) Jon has the North and Vale (sorta). Daenerys has Dorne and the Reach (at the time.)

from what I can tell, the Iron Islands are de jure part of the Riverlands kingdom, although during the time of the show always their own kingdom, making it really 8 kingdoms. The Riverlands themselves, however, actually stop being a standalone kingdom briefly when they declare for Robb and recognize him as King in the North and the Trident, making it actually back to 7 kingdoms during that time.

"The Seven Kingdoms" is a historical name at the time of the show, they're not kingdoms anymore and they're divided up into 9 regions for purposes of governance. It's like British people calling America "the colonies" in present day.

Basically.

I think there are still 7 Lords Paramount (the historic Seven Kingdoms but swap the Iron Islands for the Tullys) but in practice you also have the Crownlands which calling it the D.C. of Westeros is a fair analogy and the Iron Islands which are just there after Aegon stripped them of their mainland holdings and crushed their ruling house of the time. And they've always been bitter about that so they're always looking for a chance to rebel, they just get smacked down every time.

The riverlands were part of the Iron Islands. Not vice versa. Thus the whole 'making the eight' that everyone else has all ready mentioned. Robert Baratheon says this during the hunt in which he dies in both the books and the show.

i am way too impatient so

here are all the scenes i don't necessarily recognize already

king's landing smallfolk with spears? (0:25)

the hound in the north (1:00)

mass of ravens / night king / bran (1:02)

beric's flaming lightsaber (1:07)

tormund up north (1:16)

jon standing on flat elevated ground (1:20)

sandor drawing his sword in king's landing (CLEGANEBOWL???) (1:22)

jon/?? dueling the white walker (1:23)

someone kneeling into the water (1:25) - theon? has this already happened?

backs to back in the north (1:32)

sansa quoting eddard - 'the lone wolf dies but the pack survives' (1:32)

everything except SPOILERS and the king's landing scene seems like it could happen in the next 24 hours!

and... yeah, i did it for trailer 1, too

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Mlhnt0jMlg

a rush up north (1:01)

encircled up north (1:05)

gregor outside the red keep? (1:!4)

torches at night (1:15) - part of the naval battle?

arya peeks below a desk of some sort? (1:19)

jon's charge in the north (1:21)

jon: 'the great war is here' (1:35) - happened already?

(speculation based on trailer, name of next episode)
assuming the title 'east-watch' means we're getting the east-watch battle in the next episode... that means we have no clue what necessarily happens in episode 6 and 7, footage-wise. the true assault on king's landing has to happen at this point, right? sandor is in king's landing, it seems, and at this point, dany has routed the crown's best army...

The spears belong to the City Watch, this scene featured in episode 3 when Euron paraded Asha, Ellaria and Tyene through the city.

I don't understand how there is a shot of Sandor in the sun. I know we all love the teleporting now but the Hound is literally up north now, near the wall. It's bullshit even if he leaves for KL this episode and reaches it the last. At that point, you might as well have the intro with the locations placed all right next/on top of each other

Jon went from Winterfell to DS off screen. We assume weeks went by. Previews show he's back in the North this episode.

Keep in mind that in the books/S1, Catelyn Stark goes from Winterfell to KL off screen between one episode and the next. Robert's hunting party marches by land from KL to Winterfell in like fifteen minutes by screen time.

I figured that the 7x03 was the one time we could've seen that smallfolk scene. So we really only have the giant Northern battle. Hope we get it this week and I'm really as clueless about 7x06-07 as it might seem

No, they don't. Previews show Dany landing on Drogon on Dragonstone right in front of Jon. And there is a scene with him in the Room of the Painted Table in Dragonstone.

Also I'm expecting this ep to be a build up instead of action, but I hope I'm wrong.
