Also seeing a lot of topics lately and tried to ask in those but got no response.

Kneeling is one of the most profound ways of showing respect, so why are people acting like it is disrespectful?

It's an extra-strength tradition to stand for that specific situation. Doing anything but standing is disrespectful because humans are funny little creatures.

Everyone knows that kneeling is the most disrespectful thing a person can do /s

Literally at any sporting event there are tons of people who do not stand for the anthem out of sheer laziness. No one seems to care about that but as soon as some people start doing it to protest racial inequality people can't handle it and the narrative is manufactured that not standing for the anthem is disrespectful which is utter bullshit.

Nope. If you're there, you're meant to perform the ritual with everyone else. Humans are very picky about that kind of thing, their ways are very specific.

Traditions are funny things. It's sorta like putting your hand over your heart during the pledge of allegiance, or standing during the Hallelujah Chorus, or taking off a hat during prayer. People find weird ways to show respect, so when you go against the action, people can't help perceive a lack of respect on your part.

But the reality is, respect is something you have to EARN. If someone doesn't respect you, that's not a flaw on them, it's a flaw in your ability to earn said respect.

Like people who prefer to pray before dinner? I grant them all the time they need, I do not speak, I act in a respectful way (won't grab my phone, make mocking eye movements or whatever), but I will not join in. I treat most traditions that are not mine like that.

Yeah most people are pretty sensible about things. Even if they're displeased they won't make a huge fuss. Though I've definitely gotten weird glances in churches...

Fun part about celebrities is that they get exposed to all the loud, unreasonable people out there. And fun thing about the internet is that so do we too!

Pretty big difference between not standing out of laziness and kneeling to spite the country. I thought you were a smart enough guy to recognize that difference.

Because apparently serving means that you're magically exempt when it comes to disrespectful displays against the country? As for the highlighted tweet, it was put together by an idiot who thinks that the flag merely stands for the military (which it doesn't) and that a few old, rank&file soldiers somehow represent the entire military (which they do not and cannot).

Given that the motive is rather explicitly to show disrespect to the nation over the function of a small portion of its local government, it's not merely a harmless "I didn't mean to disrespect" as it is a giant "fuck you" to the system.

Considering that the country has gone well and above to earn that respect, it's truly the fault of the citizens. While I criticize many of the government's policies, I've never been inclined to bash the country as a whole because I recognize how lucky I am to live in a nation which celebrates a wide array of freedoms and is governed by the people in generally fair elections, shit that isn't true across most of the rest of the world.

well america has earned mine. and so have the veterans. america is far from perfect but thanks to our military I sleep peacefully at night with no fear of war coming to where i'm at. sure it could happen but its highly unlikely as no one really wants to fuck with us on our homeland. even japan would only attack hawaii and alaska. and those crazy enough to maybe try like say NK would likely be swiftly dealt with

edit: I really dont give a shit about the protest other than I think they are more disrespecting the NFL and teams they play on. as when on that field they represent their team and NFL not their personal selves. but the NFL seems to allow it so whatever.

Everyone like mead and the people kneeling are basically spoiled children. yeah way I see it anyone who has strong opinions on it one way or the other is overreacting. if they are forced to stand its not that big of a deal really, if the NFL allows them to kneel well not that big of a deal really.

That one's not so much about respect. It started when the king at the time arbitrarily thought he should stand the first time he heard it, and everyone followed suit because that's what you do with kings, and the tradition stuck.

I think it is Mr. Trump's reaction to the kneeling, during the National Anthem, is what is most telling about Mr. Trump. He is taking it way more personally then any one I've ever seen. He is taking as disloyalty or protest of the Office of the President or more likely as disloyalty or protest of Mr. Trump.

Given how our country was made and set up when we stand for the National Anthem we are showing respect for all our citizens that makes our country what it is. We are a country that was made by the people for the people first and foremost.

The rules and codes of conduct, for the national anthem and our flag were created to help the people of our country to know how to show respect for the people of our country, respect for all the people we elected to represent us to help run the country, to show respect for our country and what it stands for, and to show respect for those that fought and at times died for our country and its people. It was not made so the people could show respect and loyalty to just Mr. Trump. For Mr. Trump it seems at times he believes is first and foremost about him.

As for the kneeling for the national anthem in protest, I don't consider that to be all the disrespectful. These people, that are protesting, are still acknowledging the anthem is being played. Considering how difficult it can be to take a knee (Just getting down there and back up can be very difficult.) they aren't taking the easy way out by just sitting there to protest. It seems to me the protesters still made some effort for some respect of the anthem.

What annoys me is that I saw some people in interviews on tv complain about the kneeling during the anthem when they are on screen wearing an American flag as cape or in some other manner. Wearing an American flag in such a manner is against the rules and codes of how our flag is to be displayed and treated if your being respectful of our flag and country. I understand they are trying to support and love our country by doing that, but it is very disrespectful.

The news and our president are using the kneeling, which isn't a disrespecting jab at the military or veterans but actually a call to end racial injustice, as another dividing line in order to further distract us. They do not want us standing, or kneeling, together since a unified populace is the last thing a government seeking to hold us in a state of total control wants.

As a former servicemember, I have to agree with the statement above. When I served, I swore my loyalty to the Constitution; not to the flag or the President, no matter what race, party, etc. they were at the time. Someone once wrote, to paraphrase: The Flag is the last refuge of rogues and scoundrels; in 45's case, it's absolutely true since he's never served and has constantly wrapped himself in it.

I think this is the first time I've responded in a topic about the NFL, given that I don't follow the game.

EDIT: I do follow hockey, so I get some tangential news about ratings (which, FWIW, are down across the board - hockey is suffering too, and there's no anthem controversy there).

They're kneeling because they hate our freedoms, or some other faux-patriotic, jingoistic horseshit.
