OU has a much better resume than Bama and Georgia (its not even close in Bama's case)

No. The only actual good team you've beaten all year is OSU. (Ohio)

which at the bare minimum is more than Bama has beaten

Fair enough.... tell me which unranked 5 loss team Bama lost to...

Good wins definitely get valued over bad losses, or at least one bad loss. This season has really showcased that.

That's true. Bama has been more dominant in conference play than OU has though if we're going game by game. 1 possession wins over Texas, K-State, and especially Baylor don't look great.

OU's resume is better, but it's not leaps and bounds better.

It's the ONLY thing that should matter.

Any team in the conversation will have a ton of wins. Everyone beat some good teams, everyone beat some bad teams. I care who the fuck you managed to lose to. That shows how good you really are.

Neither should have been in.... At least with Clemson you can argue the rest of the country died so
You really didn't have a choice....

But ESPECIALLY OSU. They had beyond no right making the thing.

Point spread in the losses should matter as well. 2 losses by 4 points should not be held to the same standard as 2 losses by 46

I think 8 is sufficient.

5 P5 champs
1 consensus G5 champ
2 at large, where undefeated G5s can't be passed up for non-undefeated P5s as long as they have a P5 win

I say this fully aware it will lead to Georgia getting more playoff berths, but I'm willing to make that sacrifice.

I mean, I assume we all think OSU is gonna win, right?

No one else I'm guessing thinks Wisconsin is winning. Just that if they somehow do there is no way they are out...

But I'll humor you for a second.

1 Georgia/Auburn
2 Clemson/Ok
3 OK/Clemson
4 Bama
5 Wisconsin
6 Auburn/Georgia....

Do you have any idea how much hell would be (fairly) raised on the committee if an undefeated P5 Champion got left out over a 1 loss team that didn't even MAKE the Championship game...?

That is a blip on the radar if undefeated Champ gets left out over one loss DIVSION runner up howver....

If Bama gets left out (and it's SEC, OU, Clemson, Wisconsin, and ONLY that combination) there is no way Sabin is going to cry about it. Now if somehow OSU, or Miami, or USC etc got in, yeah, he'd yell and have every right in the world to do so....

Wisconsin will probably already be 4, and if they're not, beating Ohio State will put them there.

Predix since I don't seem to be falling asleep yet.

1. Clemson
2. Oklahoma
3. Auburn
4. Wisconsin
5. Alabama
6. Georgia
7. Miami
8. Ohio State
9. USC
10. TCU

Wouldn't be surprised to see Miami at 6 or even at 8 though. Notre Dame is apparently pretty trash on the road and VT is clinging to the rankings.

Auburn convincingly beat Alabama and smoked Georgia. Their losses are better than everyone else's (playing #1 Clemson close helps). They should easily jump into the top 4. The only question is whether or not they pass Wisconsin. The only flaw in their resume is their two biggest wins were both at home, but Notre Dame was in the same boat, with weaker wins, and they were #3.

Alabama is the team in waiting at #5 no matter how I look at it. I don't think the committee decides to be cute and leave them as a potentially dead duck #4. There is no longer any justifiable reason for a Wisconsin that beats Ohio State to end behind Alabama (It'd also easily be a better win than Alabama's best win). I don't think Ohio State can pass them barring a legendary destruction of Wisconsin like the one that got Ohio State past TCU in year 1.

Clemson getting in with a loss is a really hard sell. I think it absolutely requires TCU to beat Oklahoma for there to even be a glimmer of hope.

This sets up a Miami/SEC Champion/Big Ten Champ/Clemson or Alabama (I think it sort of includes conference champion TCU, too, given their own conference championship, but that feels like a longshot)

So yeah Clemson is in trouble if it loses. At best it's going into a virtual tiebreaker for the last spot. I absolutely see the argument that they should get it, though.

I wrote a crapload more than I planned.

"Oh".

Nala is purring.

P.S. I think Clemson, Ohio State, and Oklahoma all both win by double digits, and the final four ends with Clemson/Oklahoma/Auburn/Alabama or Ohio State. Probably Alabama.

The committee has made it very clear they're barely treating the loss like a loss.

There's exactly 1 scenario that leaves them any hope of getting in with a loss, though I don't think they get in in that scenario.

There isn't a justifiable reason at that point no matter what though and they'd get murdered for doing it. Alabama's best win will be against a ~20 Miss St. team collapsed late. Ohio State might not even drop past 10-11 with a loss.

Alabama was beaten fairly convincingly in it's only attempt to pick up a signature win. If they lost a very close game by 1 point you have an argument, but Auburn strictly outplayed them.

Except they've made it clear every single week that they put no stock whatsoever in Clemson's loss to Syracuse due to the Bryant injury. They don't make most things clear. This has probably been the sole exception.

The committee will be at worst treating them like they had 1 1/2 losses, not 2. Clemson may as well still be undefeated in their eyes right now.

I don't think they get in over Alabama, but I think they would be close. Really close.

I actually think in that situation they should be the 4.

But what really makes it moot is Oklahoma is going to kill TCU again anyway and Clemson is going to kill Miami.

How would you all rank the final four assuming Auburn, OU, Wisconsin, and Clemson wins?

Regardless of merit, do you think they would ignore the actual stated rules and try to prevent a Clemson-Auburn semifinal?

(as an aside, its always bound to happen, but still amuses me that OU (or some other southern team) is going to be the closest team to the Rose Bowl)
