Microsoft are literally doing everything but exclusives right. Unfortunately when you're this late in the generation you really need a great exclusive line-up to back you up for a comeback. That's what worked for the PS3.

Why is it that every PS4 exclusive is a system seller, but anything that comes out on Xbox isn't?

Like CE creams its pants over shit like Nier Automata, Yakuza 0 and Horizon but I personally don't know anybody who bought a PS4 for them.

Then again, most people bought a PS4 cause it was the cheapest option.

I never said it was a failure. I said it was probably a disappointment for Microsoft considering the history of the franchise. Apparently it made up most of the money in microtransactions anyway so it's probably moot point now.

I'd be surprised if Halo 5 and Heavy Rain had the same sales expectations. Especially if Heavy Rain actually outsold it. So that is a weird counter-argument.

The Last of Us 2 would have different sales expectations compared to games like Detroit: Become Human. It's not rocket science or hard to understand.

Sequels that lose half of their sales aren't generally considered to be successful.

If they had a killer exclusive line-up ready to go with the Xbox One X and Game Pass they'd be in a significantly better position. Instead we're still waiting for a game turnaround that's a 1-2 years away at best.

Playground's Fable is a step in the right direction and I hope we see more stuff like that.

That's still 10 million people who may have never bought a 360 otherwise. That's a massive chunk of people that brought the 360 into the zeitgeist and helped make it into the mainstream console of that generation (until around 2009 when things started to equal out). Consoles rely on gaining momentum. Exclusives like Halo and Gears most certainly helped Xbox do that.

The Xbox 360 didn't reach 10 million consoles sold until mid 2008 btw. Despite this Halo 3 was the best selling game in 2007. It launched in September. You seriously think this was irrelevant to the 360's success?

That's figure is close to being a third of the current Xbox One userbase. That isn't some low figure to scoff at.
