Now that I think about, my image for Luke fon Fabre tends to be him with long hair even though hes short hair for like 75% of Tales of the Abyss.

I'm bored enough at work that I'm figuring out my anime stats. I've almost reached 100 show seasons total. Of those, 2018/2017 account for a little over half (22 and 29 respectively). By comparison, 2006-2013 is only 25 combined. I know my strategy was to keep current while fitting in older stuff where possible but, damn, I've barely made a dent in the past.

Fun fact: the oldest anime I've seen is S1 of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Sad I missed the earlier Ancient Magus discussion, especially Roba's stuff when he was early in the series ;_;. The second half isn't seeming to be as good as the first so far. Less worldbuilding, more incredibly confusing direction (18-20 have all had very strange sequences).

Also I'm confused why they're dealing with a dragon curse and none of them consider asking the dragons for help... More of that confusing writing/directing where things just seem to happen rather than having a logical progression.

Also wouldn't Elias's first reaction to hearing that Chise's curse can't be cured unless the dragon dies be to kill the dragon

I've been (very slowly) watching through Kino's Journey -the Beautiful World- the Animated Series lately (the 2017 one, not the older one). I honestly hadn't realized this was a sequel (or quasi-remake or whatever) until I'd already started this, and I doubt I'll look into the older one now because I really didn't like this anime. There was a boring, poorly written info-dump in every episode and everything felt so heavy-handed. One story was about a slave girl, so of course she was an absolute saint and everyone else was an absolute monster because apparently nuance doesn't exist in this universe. Every story left me wondering wtf the message was supposed to be, too. The moving country smashed through that other country's walls and destroyed all their crops and Kino was cool with it. Try to destroy the moving country's mural as a petty revenge, though, and Kino will mess you up. And the moral of this story is... uh... yeah. Honestly by the end I was watching just to see how much absolute nonsense they could fit into an episode so I was glad the finale delivered on that at least. Kino versus... man-eating sheep? Uhhh... alright then.

For what it's worth, there seems to be a pretty clear consensus that the 2003 series was better. It's got an 8.44 on mal and the newer one has a 7.61. Can't say exactly how it's better though, since I saw the reception the new series was getting and decided not to bother with it.l

New one had some bad writing, but solid direction, so I enjoyed it. Very inconsistent though. The episodic nature asked me to look past the bad writing and have fun with it, but some episodes were just downright boring. The original series was a lot better, but I also watched it when I was much younger, so it might've suffered from the same issues and I simply forgot.

Except Fate Strange Fake. Strange Fake was actually good and the best thing to come out of Fate. So you should read that instead.

I still have to watch the 2nd half of Apocrypha, but the first half sure was the definition of bland mediocrity.

I'd say your at the part where it gets way worse, Zea. Those last 2 episodes of the first cour....yeesh.

Jannu Duaaku is the main character with Mordekaiser getting a lot of screen time too

I'm a huge fan of the VN and its anime adaptations (literally even the DEEN one.) zero is pretty cool too. I kinda doubt I'll ever read strange fake but I guess it's possible.

honestly, it feels like the show doesn't even have a main character. the beginning makes it seem like mordred and her master are the main characters but that's not really the case. ensemble casts can be good but not when the cast is so overall blah. mordred is probably my favorite character though, she's pretty cool.

Jack is nothing, Jeanne is shockingly boring (seriously, why is she popular? Porn?), and Mordred is great but is a non factor for the middle chunk of episodes.

I'd say 90% of the characters in this show are totally forgettable.

Waiting for Mac to come in and tell us we're all wrong and Apocrypha is 10/10 best Fate series.

mordred and shishigou (her master) are clearly the best imo. I really wish they were just straight up the main characters. astolpho is okay but I just find him really... lame. I also like WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE but he is sadly a total non-factor so far.

I realize it was handicapped by Netflix, but I can't imagine that show would have had any impact even with the Crunchyroll exposure.

beyond the fate label, there's really nothing appealing about it. it's basically one of those generic light novel shows we get five of every season except it's attached to a popular franchise.

I just kind of like Astolpho's whole deal, he's a fun character! I hear he's pretty prominent in the second half, too. I would love if he were in a good Fate show. And he's certainly not whiny it a wuss, not sure where you got that at all. You sexist against traps, swordz?

I stopped watching Last Encore because having to deal with downloading it and plugging my phone into my TV was just too much of a hassle, but it was already looking stronger than Apocrypha.

Yea Fate/Zero is among my favorite shows and I loved Unlimited Blade Works but I haven't checked out any of the other Fate things really. It started to seem like one of those things they wanna just kinda churn out regardless of quality because the original got so big.
