Why? What purpose does it serve other than to make people criminals for simply owning a weapon?

Just turn in your weapon and you won't be a criminal.

Why? So I don't have to get shot or my kids don't get shot while they are in school.
We don't need guns. We don't need hunting. The United States is better off without guns. Period.

You realize the only people who will have guns once all the legal owners have theirs confiscated are the criminals, and not just cops, right?

Guns exist. Guns are prolific. And because of that fact, we cannot ban guns. It's like wanting to get rid of nukes. It's a nice idea, and in ideal world, nukes wouldn't exist. But they do exist, and so because they do, we can't just disable ours. We have to be at the top to make sure no other country with nukes, or aspirations to create them, decides to try to take us out, that means having more nukes, and making them more powerful so that we don't have to use them. In a world where survival by any means is the law of the land, you can't handicap yourself and expect great success. Taking away the populace's weapons is a great way to handicap us in the event of catastrophe, and to make us vulnerable.

Your little fantasy world hinges on all of humanity being on the same page. That's a near impossibility until you can solve the little problem of finite resources. If you can't 100% guarantee my safety without my owning firearms, then you aren't taking away a tool with which I can increase my odds of survival. You really won't, and if you try, then it won't end well for anyone except Americans. This is the sort of thing that starts civil wars. You people are playing with fire, and you gun-less bleeding hearts won't win. You think the military will be on your side? At the very least, there will be great division and a great many soldiers will defect to America and leave your little commie regime.

So I should just hand over a rifle worth $900-1500, that I bought and paid for, with zero compensation? Thats fucking stupid.

Youre more likely to die in a car wreck than you are to get shot, unless you fancy hanging out in rough areas in town. And school shootings are isolated incidents, not a pandemic. Hunting exists to control animal populations. Do you really want animals running out of food and starving to death? Or how about increasing the likelihood that a deer runs out in traffic? And how do you intend to collect 300 million firearms from citizens? Youd be violating the 4th amendment trying search and seizure.

A small town willingly banning ARs which most citizens agreed with? This isn't the nightmare conservative gun nuts say it is.

So you're okay with it as long as "most citizens" agree with it? "Most citizens" wanting something banned is a sufficient threshold in order for the government to ban something in your eyes?

It was good enough for conservatives with gay marriage. Shoe's on the other foot now.

Gay marriage was not banned nor was it criminalized.

Yeah, it was actually banned for quite some time. And every time a state legislature legalized it, conservatives trotted out the ol' "the people should vote on it directly," like that made it okay.

According to the ordinance, which the the Village Board of Trustees unanimously approved Monday night, it is unlawful for a person "to carry, keep, bear, transport or possess an assault weapon in the Village," except if the weapon is "broken down in a non-functioning state," is "not immediately accessible to any person," or is "unloaded and enclosed in a case, firearm carrying box, shipping box, or other container by a person who has been issued a currently valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card." Law enforcement officers, current and retired, are exempted.

so... what's the issue?

"Assault Rifle" is a boogeyman term that isn't clearly defined.

Edit: it says assault weapon, which is even looser. My mistake.

I'm kinda confused what the problem is. The citizens of the town asked for this and the town's government went with the public. That's kind of how governments are supposed to work.

So then why do you shitpost when the citizens of all those towns in red states want shitty laws regarding gay marriage and whatnot? The point is that citizens of a town are not allowed to legislate things that strip people of their rights.

I didn't realize I even shitpost about gay marriage.

Pretty sure I've seen you running your mouth in those "Georgia does this" and "Alabama does that" threads lol. But maybe I'm remembering wrong.

The most I can recall doing is posting some silly topics from r/nottheonion. And the only ones I can think of that involved specfic states are like when some of the southern states voted against child marriage laws.

Would you be okay with a town in Alabama or Georgia banning gay marriage?

There's still the matter of whether what the citizens of the town asked for is constitutional.

Sure. Though you need someone to fight it and if the entire town is fine with it, you won't see a court case.

I just think it's weird to jump on the everyone is trying to ban my guns from this.

I don't know if it's fair to say that "the entire town is fine with it." I'm sure there are people there with differing opinions.

"We're not banning these guns, we're just making it completely illegal to ever even come close to using one"

lol, same effect on responsible owners. Sad and disgusting bullshit.

"Responsible owner of an AR-15" is an oxymoron

lol you need to get out of the house more.

What does my comment have in common with being in a house too long? I don't get the connection.

You've never met somebody who owns an AR-15, have you? I've met tons. All great guys.

Yes I have, and I wouldn't call him responsible by any measure of the word, lol.

And anybody who fraternizes with you should automatically be deemed "irresponsible".
