Yeah I've cut people out of my life for them not being accepting of me being gay. I didn't tell them to fuck off, to be fair, but cut off contact.

Most recent was someone who my husband went to high school with who expressed that he didn't think we should be allowed to adopt. I have no time for people like that.

No one should ever get drinks with han, though. He just knows too many people. So when you hang with him, you'll see him for like 2 seconds before he runs off to say hi to someone else.

That's definitely oversimplifying things, but it seems to me that a lot of the speech in the alt-right stems from a desire to be seen as "alpha".

well, sort of.

realo later claimed (not sure how genuine he was being but whatever) that in the A/B debates he and sess were always trolling me out of boredom because "it was hilarious how dumb i was being."

i was definitely taking it seriously, though. pretty sure other people i was arguing with, like extha, were too.

I asked for people to explain Gamergate to me on NeoGAF because I never really heard of it outside of on there. They all backlashed at me and accused me of trying to attack their side and trying to troll to do it. I legitimately was just trying to ask someone to explain it.

The most I got was... It is completely misunderstood. One side is for greater diversity, while the other side is trying to argue for better journalism values.

However, the 2 sides are fighting because side a is accusing side b of being misogynist and anti-women. While side B is accusing Side A of protecting sensatalionist and improper journalism.

All I got out of my very limited responses before my topic got locked and I got scolded was that basically neither Side actually disapproved of the other sides stated actual positions but that both sides were warping the other sides positions to attack them.

Gamergate was never about journalistic integrity. It'd have almost been nice if it was--that is, if it wasn't what it actually was with the people who were actually in it. I'm sure some people were roped in by the idea of journalistic integrity. But overall the movement was awful. I think journalistic integrity in video game reviews is an issue worth discussing--but not by gamergate in the least.

They're mostly a bunch of alt-righters who hate how progressive video games have become. "A GAY COUPLE IN MY VIDEO GAME?! HOW DARE THEY!" Basically think Vlado.

Some gamers didnt like that games are broadening their appeal beyond young males. They see SJWs as ruining their ideal of what gaming is and who it should be targeted to.

So they took it upon themselves to doxx, harass, and dig up any and all dirt on video game journalists and publishers who they deemed to be SJWs in an effort to discredit their journalism integrity.

If, for example, you wrote an article about the game Gone Home, but didnt disclose that you were once roommates with someone who worked on music for the game, they would do the internet equivalent of dragging you out to town square to tar and feather you and try to shut down your entire career, even IF you did go back and amend your article with the proper disclosure of your connection to the game

(That was a real example. They REALLY HATE Gone Home).

Believe it or not, 4chan actually has a bare minimum of standards. The doxxing got to be too overwhelming and was opening them up to legal liability.

It is called a forum. It is called conversing with people. I asked both sides to explain it. Side A posted wiki stuff. Wiki.timeline article or something. Which was all about discords, 4chan attacking websites, harassing a woman at her home, TotalBiscuit and alt-right personalities attacking websites. And false claims of victory over new terms of uses or something issued by websites.

Then Side B stated that those links were totally biased and presented their own stuff. Some YouTube videos and articles.

Which mostly was along the veins of that there was a limited dispute between a girl and a guy. The girl complained to her journalist friends. Then about 13 websites in unison began bashing video gamers as a culture and called them all misogynist or something. And how this is what created gamer gate and it was a crusade against the journalistic integrity and had nothing to do with diversity at all, but the labeling of a community over a relationship none of them even knew or cared about.

So in the end, it appears to have been two sides arguing things they likely agree on for the most part but are arguing against each other under the veils of different labels.
