This doesn't even look like Monster Hunter anymore <_< Seems like crazy fast paced stuff and what I'm assuming is invincibility frames or a guard point type mechanic on attacks to dodge twenty mile wide explosions on every attack

yeah tonfas have crazy iframes.

most weapons are that fast paced though. tonfas are just pretty crazy, similar to DBs. the tonfa evades are kinda like adept DB evades which similarly feel like something that isn't monhun to a lot of people

evasion or guard skills are required at the late stages of the game though. i don't think you could get through these fights without them. tonfas might, because they have a lot of iframes as is but i'm pretty sure tonfa sets still use evasion.

a lot of the best damage buff skills are actually built around iframing through attacks, or successive guards.

but also, yes, frontier is notorious for giant AOE attacks everywhere. definitely not for everyone. requires precise evading and positioning. and the acceptance that monsters are going to suck the first several times you fight them until you figure out their specific brand of bullshit

It feels like GU made the G rank hyper monsters even more durable relative to their normal selves than the high rank ones were. Looked it up and it turns out Hyper Royal Ludroth has literally twice as much health as the normal one? Why Ludroth of all things getting that kind of buff? It doesn't make him harder, just makes him boring to grind down. But then it looks like Hyper Silver Rathalos is barely any more durable than usual, which...okay I do not object to that one bit because I remember that Fire Emblem DLC quest in Generations

Right now the online is really good for finding rooms to do anything that's a key quest and especially Ahtal-Ka, but it's a bit hard to find anything else. Everyone still focusing on making progress it seems. Best bet is probably looking for a turns room and hoping people will stick around when you post it

Did they nerf Akantor's damage output in this game or something? I got caught by its stand up beam thing and it didn't even manage 40% damage. I know that version of the attack is weaker than the other ones, but still, seemed like everything he touched me with was surprising me with how weak it was. In Generations and 4U he was still easy to deal with, but at least when you fucked up you felt it.

I need to learn to shield more when I play as a Prowler. Ive literally never used a weapon with a shield as a hunter (not counting Great Swords shield) so evading is always my instinct

prowlers are going to do better evading, though. they get a lot of iframes and their evades cover a lot of ground. plus, you can throw emergency retreat on there for times when you absolutely can't evade

i'm pretty certain their guard is pretty weak and with a lot of hitstun, though it's been a while since i've played them

That feel when a common item just will not drop beyond the guaranteed ones some quests give. I'd love to only fight Furious Rajang once or twice to upgrade his glaive into G rank, but I guess I'm going to have to settle for three or four...

...why the hell did they decide to bring back Crimson Fatalis in his derpy older form with shitty Verdant Hills zero effort remix music and barely even looking red unless raged? 4U came along and decided that in G rank Crimson should actually be cool, so they gave him a neat new move, fire steps, lava bursts on his rushes, a revamped colour scheme *and* actually good music. And it was great! G Rank Crimson was awesome in 4U. Why did they undo all of that? So disappointing

"Oh no how will I ever break a Duramboros's hump" *kills a Deviljho in 15 minutes with the same loadout*

and I don't think I'm even that good with Prowlers

It's kind of funny that Prowler mode ended up being stronger than gunlance and solo hunting horn in Generations

And kind of sad that they decided to nerf it for Ultimate for no apparent reason

Since I went with Bow as my main weapon this time I like to use Prowler when I want to shut my brain off with regard to hunt preparations and item loadouts

Bow can definitely be a bit time consuming to prepare for, especially if you want to be super efficient and are thus bringing combination materials along. It's why I don't use it much in multiplayer despite having started learning the weapon in Generations earlier this year, I don't like making people wait for me to sort out my inventory. I should probably be less paranoid about that kind of thing, especially since I'm usually the first person ready to go in any given room, but it's kind of ingrained in me to be as little of a potential hassle for teammates as possible. Not even sure why, but it is.

I always thought it was weird that cats don't need Cool Drinks. It makes sense that cold wouldn't bother them cus of their fur... but like, cats can't do big heat...

Lot of people are probably not interested in doing high rank quests if they're already in G rank, would be my best guess. Personally I often don't even check what the HR requirement is so there have been a few times in turns rooms where I find myself wondering why the monster died so fast, and then I carve high rank parts only and it suddenly dawns on me
