If I recall correctly, my moms favorite story of that season was the Matt Story. And my parents are my casual base

Not to mention Matt got 34% of the fan favorite vote (compared to Rob's 40%, that's pretty fucking good for a newbie up against Boston Fucking Rob). So while they hated the season, it seems like they liked what came out of the twist.

Lost interest in this Big Brother season a while ago. It's not as bad as last year, but still. It was much more fun when everyone was playing hard but not well. The best seasons are filled with entertaining personalities that are playing hard, even if they're not playing a good game.

I'm not at all interested in the Survivor pre-season stuff for some reason. I might have ranked Ghost Island too high... and it was in my bottom 3. That season seemed to do nothing but kill my interest in the show.

Is this bad?

I haven't missed watching a Survivor episode on the Wednesday it aired since South Pacific. I have watched each season as it aired.

My breaks were previously during Big Brother seasons. The oversaturation is getting to me... but so is that Survivor is just plain bad these days. Production's artificial attempts to incite "Big Movez" through excess advantages and swaps is continually robbing us of good players with personality (Malcolm, Queen Sandra, Alan, Ali, Morgan, Stephanie, James, etc.) and leaving a void come the merge, thus doing the exact opposite of their desire. What's worse is they don't seem to realize this - and that lack of realization is costing them viewers, including superfans like myself.

We haven't gotten a good season since MvX and if production continues this route, it will never recover. Hopefully they will make adjustments for a back-to-basics "Survivor: 39 Days" season. If they do not do that, they will lose me.

Never say never. You just may have reached the point of too invested and need a break just Jordan Parhar just did.

But I gotta say these last few episodes of Big Brother remind me why even in its worst seasons I like Survivor better. Even when it is a week where nothing but the opposition was going home they try to make it seem like something else might happen which makes it more entertaining.

That's the thing about having an edited show that's entirely pre-filmed. They can create stories like that. The trade-off is that you have winner's edits, whereas in Big Brother it all unfolds in front of you and you don't have edit divination to judge who wins.

The other thing with Big Brother is that knowing what's going on makes it easier for you to decide whether or not to watch an episode. It's easier to catch up. That said, Survivor is meant to have a cohesive season - whereas due to the fact that it all happens live, Big Brother simply can't. Each show has its pros and cons, but I'm with you on the whole. Survivor has historically had overall better casting because Lynne got (ugh) to pick the cast and Probst and Burnett signed off on them after meeting them one at a time, as opposed to Grodner and Moonves picking from 30-some. With Lynne only doing TAR and Moonves gone... things on both shows could change >_>

Perhaps my "break" will simply be watching episodes, listening to RHAP only when I like the guest, and continuing to harass Probst about giving Morgan another go. As opposed to watching and rewatching episodes, listening to four or more RHAPs a week, writing a blog, and live-tweeting and interacting with everyone. This probably means I won't be too active in here. But you're right. I might be coming down with Parhar Syndrome because I did all that. Perhaps my desire to blog to continue my investment blew up in my face. I already talked it over with Redmond about only doing 1-2 this season (lower page hits for my feature since it started), so I'm good there.

Oh, my expectations are quite low. I'm simply expecting "better than Ghost" but that's not saying much since Ghost was so bad. However, I've heard that there are four buff designs, so we ARE getting at least one swap again, UGH and there's that idol nullifier twist, so... my hopes are low!

Not going to watch S38, however. Who knows what's going to happen with filming - with all the chaos happening at CBS with Moonves getting sacked (did you guys hear that?), Survivor's renewal might not be a sure thing if the new boss decides to rebrand the network.

Just watched last night's BB episode.

Well it's finally happened. We finally hit an episode where Angela was the most interesting person. Angela.

You can tell they knew it was going to be boring because nearly half of the episode was spent focusing on people who weren't even on the season.

What exactly do you like about her? Other than two admittedly emotional, character-building moments across 33 episodes, all she's done is shout psychs about being nice to the other side of the house in the diary room when she isn't invisible.

I like Kaycee even more so than Sarah. While she in the DR is L6, L6, L6 she shows the self-awareness to to have good social relationships with everyone in the house and is a woman that is a challenge beast (which is more common in Big Brother than I thought) as of late. She also isn't overdoing it in screen time. And to top if all off, she does remind me of someone and that always tops it off.

I'm excited for the Double Eviction tonight. In all actuality Angela will probably win and send Sam home and it will be boring like any other double eviction but there is always a chance that a Brett or a JC might win and take their shot at Kaycee and Angela.

Do you really think Brett would take out Kaycee/Angela over Sam? So far we've seen all his talk of mounting a coup be just that - all talk.

A couple of weeks again he talked that he wanted someone else to do it but at the end of the day I think he has to realize that this may be his only chance to get them before they get him because he does at least seem self interested except for the fact that he wants to honor his bro pact.

It's probably going to be boring. Most DEs on BBUS are as of late, likely because they come at the boring points of a season.

They really do need to prevent seasons from becoming boring, and my suggestions would be:
1. Shorten the season. The excessive length of 14 weeks is way too much and it causes HGs to think of the long game only. This means there are fewer moves being made because it's all about self-preservation - one big move puts a target on you and there are many more opportunities, so people (see: Steve Moses) wait a long time to do it. The length is also a reason why there are so many single twenty-somethings and so few from older generations - people don't want to leave their spouses and children for three and a half months. They were more willing to for a 12-week game, using money as the motivator.
2. Stop the BS twists like the H@CK3R// - they don't spice anything up. In fact, the H@CK3R// twist only served to ENSURE the Pagonging that will conclude tonight. The one time FOUTTE had the power and knew what to do with it, it was all undone by that. Just make a more organic game!
3. Cast more fans. With the sacking of Moonves, this may actually happen if the new big boss decides to let Robyn have more freedom with cast finalization. While you do need to recruit a few people to fill certain roles, there still exist people like Rachel from this season that are both attractive and huge fans of the show. The more people that know what they're getting into, the better. Last year was so bad because there were so many recruits that thought it was a team game. This year has gotten that way because Brett and Angela are playing like that.
4. Add a hidden immunity idol - essentially Tyler's Cloud app - and hide it as an ordinary household item. Make this twist public knowledge to cause paranoia. This will sow seeds of distrust as people will constantly think about Plan B. There will only be one or two of these every season, depending on how early the first is played.
5. Make the Battle Back much less frequent and with far less predictable timing. Everyone knows that the magic number is four and this group was 100% prepared for such an event to occur when Scottie came back in. ChenBot said "they had no idea" but... that's wrong. They had EVERY idea. Because these events have incredibly predictable timing and are so frequent, people play it safe for four weeks. It's doing the exact opposite of what Grod wants it to and preventing power shifts. And it doesn't really do anything since the returnee is usually target #1.

Big Brother isn't in as big of a rut as Survivor but it's certainly getting formulaic for many of the same reasons. Both shows are trying to artificially incite Big Movez but their attempts to do so are doing the exact opposite. I am losing interest in reality TV en bloc - and fast. If one more season of Survivor makes it apparent that all I can do is hope fruitlessly...

I'm not 100% sure of this. They always have the potential of being exciting but the players more often than not play it safe. BB18s come to mind because Corey instead of working with Nicole like he normally would went to the boys and said "we doing this all guys thing or what" and then put up freaking Bridget.

Tonight has the chance to be different because there are enough people considering self-interest aside from Kaycee. Angela has talked about wanting JC up. Brett/JC have talked about Kaycee/Angela. And Tyler had expressed interest in going after Brett/JC. Kaycee is the only one whose goal is straight Sam/JC. Though, Brett/Angela have potential to chicken out but even chickening out means putting up JC and JC trying to go crazy for an hour.

Fantastic entertainment. Decent player, but has horrible jury management and hasn't yet shown he has the testicular fortitude to bus any of his scummates.

I predict JC leaves in tonight's DE because they would rather him go crazy for a short period of time than for an entire week.
