Yeah, I wouldn't worry about getting to it right away if you don't feel the need to or have time for it. Since it's a DLC case, it's pretty isolated from the rest of the game so there's nothing in it you "need" to know to have the complete experience.

Man, that was one heck of a final episode. Had me on the edge of my seat almost the entire time since, fittingly enough, I had no context for this story (although I did appreciate the references to The Three Garridebs and The Musgrave Ritual).

I started FF Type-0 and I am not totally sure I understand what's happening lol. (Also a lot of silly lack of QoL things here like no quick travel and having to go the main menu to replay missions.)

I have acquired Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

I honestly haven't really gotten into a Mario Kart game since Double Dash. I didn't really like playing the games on a handheld, and I didn't want to play it with the motion controls of the Wii either (although I've heard good things about MKWii all the same). I've kinda been wanting to get it, but user SaveEstelle got it with his Switch, so I picked it up so we could play online together once in a while as we get ready for Smash Ultimate.

Well, user SaveEstelle is not a big PC gamer, so I think he was a little disheartened when he learned it was PC-exclusive.

I've played some of MKDS and MK7, but I dropped them fairly quickly.

I mean I bit the bullet and even replayed the first two on PC so I could have a save carryover that honestly didn't even matter that much before playing the 3rd, but user SaveEstelle can be rather stubborn about these things. I'm kind of amazed he was able to deal with the first two being on handheld because he doesn't really like handhelds that much either, but he likes PC gaming even less.

The weird thing is that I think Cold Steel would probably be right up his alley based on what I know of it (and it's even available on consoles!), but I doubt I could convince him to skip the 3rd and go straight to Cold Steel.

MK8 definitely feels like the best MK IMO, especially thanks to the improved battle mode in Deluxe...though I do feel like the arenas are kinda too big in that.

Yeah, that's what I'm driving at. I think he'd love Cold Steel (hell for years I have wanted nothing more than to see his reaction to one particular scene late in it) but yeah. I'd say Sky 3 is optional for Cold Steel strictly speaking but I'd still recommend it since the option is now available.

Well, the thing is, user SaveEstelle is kind of a stickler about these things. He would insist on playing the 3rd before moving on to Cold Steel. He likes to play things in the proper order, so it's a self-defeating cycle for him at the moment.

I think we're on similar wavelengths here. I have not (and am still not) a fan of PC Gaming. Hell, I think I only have the Trails games and Steins;Gate - and this was back when Steins;Gate was only a PC release and I didn't think we'd be getting console/handheld releases.

I also am a stickler for order in games when possible. I've had to make some concessions for Trails because of the wacky localization schedule (Sky 3 wasn't even announced when CS1 came out) and I only really conceded here because of the impossibility of the situation and the quality of the series.

I'm not arguing that he's wrong to think that way - I think the same on both even now - I'm arguing that this is the exception case. I got SC on PSP even when XSEED was heavily recommending the PC version for its improvements and only "caved" when 3rd was PC only. I wasn't thrilled with the situation but dammit it's Trails. Its Estelle. =(

Well, I think part of it is because Estelle isn't the protagonist of the 3rd. I think he'd be more willing to make an exception, especially since he wasn't particularly fond of Kevin in SC. I've tried to talk up the 3rd and the potential of Cold Steel to him, but he does things his own way, so there's not much else I can do.

I didn't think much of Kevin by the end of SC and yet over the course of 3rd I thought he was about to overtake Estelle until Estelle had her GOAT moment and slammed the door.

I know there isn't much you can do, I don't mean to imply otherwise, it's just why I wish he came back so I could try adding my voice to yours on this. Also I miss him. =(

If it means anything, I skipped straight from SC into Cold Steel (because 3rd wasn't released officially yet at the time), and I don't think I suffered any adverse consequences.

That's the only input I plan on providing on this subject.

The new final puzzle wasn't as good as the original one (although it'd be hard to top it, honestly), but it's still a pretty wild ending.

This is excellent. Cold Steel 3's OST was underwhelming from what I remember of it, though in fairness it is by far the one I am least familiar with/have listened to the least. But the ~15ish songs in the wild now are amazing. Think this could take over for my favorite Falcom OST if this is indicative of the whole OST and be one of overall favorites. It also feels a lot more varied in terms of style. One song would fit in Touhou lol. All done really well though. I hear songs that make me think FFish, Trance, Tokyo Xanadu-style Falcom, Touhou, and more.

I tried type 0 once, and put the game on hard mode. It said all enemies would be plus 20 levels so I was like ok, and then I got one shot by everything out the gate before I even learned to play

Rather than admit defeat and go to normal or suck it and learn while dying a lot I just never played the game again

I like Clover more in VLR honestly. I think she's kind of whatever in 999. Like Ace, she has one or two standout scenes, but she's not very interesting otherwise.

I'm impressed Tennessee didn't just fold after giving up that score right before halftime (or even after that absurdly lucky first TD UGA got, seriously all the breaks go against us this year). The final score will make it seem closer than it really was if it holds, but I mostly just wanted some signs that the Vols are getting better, and I think I've seen some.

Trails the 3rd a top tier VG OST.

Most of my favorite Trails songs are from FC or SC, but I think 3rd easily has the highest overall song quality of the series. I honestly would say I love like 75% of the soundtrack or something.
