I will admit, that post did worry me a bit (mostly due to the implication that people WOULD make false rape claims, not to hurt a man, but because they just want to discredit and discourage ALL women from ever coming forward when attacked). Anyone who thinks that interest rates of 7% on government-funded loans are sustainable, especially with wages generally remaining flat, is an idiot.

So yes, I could see student loans being one of the things that exacerbates any crash that happens.

But let's be real, in the event of any economic disaster, it's going to be the non-wealthy who get hit the hardest anyway.

C) Improperly Distributed Wealth/Too Much Wealth wrapped up in debt will mean that the Real Value of things is actually a lot lower than they should be because of demand not rising in the expected way. This will lead to a massive market correction which will cause a chain reaction which may very well involve A) and B)

The student loan debt fiasco is mostly from insane room and board costs, which is also linked to the insane rent prices we see these days (1 bedroom for something small like 600 square feet is usually around 1400 in most cities, well in the 2ks for places like Cali and NY obviously).

So much of student loans goes to the housing and "meal plans", crap like that. Most public universities have tuition that is still semi affordable if you work part time...and live at home. Thats what I did and finished grad school with no debt. Took me 1 extra year of both undergrad and grad school though.

This also means you live within driving distance of a university, and many college towns are just that though (most major cities do have good universities too though). It also hinders your social life for obvious reasons.

I was assuming for anyone to believe anything from 4chan that they would have had provided some information on the website before it went to the media.
