I've heard that Whitaker can be made to recuse by DOJ Ethics Lawyers if they find he should... but I've heard nothing about what actual enforcement mechanism there is for that. I have the sinking suspicion there is none but I don't even know that for sure. It's not the time for it given Trump, but I've been thinking and going forward the democratic message should be something along the lines of "Together, we are invincible". Studies have shown that right wing political leaning is linked to the strength of fear and disgust reactions. People who picture themselves as physically invulnerable before a survey lean further left than normal for that survey, regardless of their initial leanings, than people who don't. If you want to convert people leftward you need to try to make them feel safe, regardless of any other factors.
