People thinking lactate ringers will increase your potassium more than NS and avoiding it in mild hyperkalemia of 4.8 to 5.4 range. Gets annoying.

Not to mention the hyperchloremic acidosis you get from NS.

That's actually the mechanism that NS worsens hyperkalemia...through the acidosis. Whereas LR, a balanced solution, doesn't effect it. There's 3 RCTs that prove this. If anyone wants more info, Google th topic and add Josh Farkas...he had a great post on emcrit about this.

No, I work for the state. I have a set salary with a set schedule for raises and great benefits. I can live off one job because I made the choice to work someplace that offers a livable salary. If I did their menial labor I wouldn't go on strike because I know that

A) My skillset isn't enough to warrant more money

What does that have to do with communism?

When you say "It only works on paper", the usual implication is "It only works on paper, because it's failed every time that it's been attempted" even if you coach it in language like "human nature". But if the reason that communism has always failed in real life is that the US has tried to stop it from succeeding, that really says little about the hypothetical success of that system.

It'd be like if I said to you that bars "just don't work" in my hometown, because they always lasted a month before having to close due to lack of business, but disregarded the fact that I regularly firebombed bars in my hometown.

adding another myth to the mix:

"human nature is static"

"human nature is independent from the way humans are socialized"

Keynesian and Marxist economic policies

This, and the 08 crisis was caused by deregulation.

Keynes actually saved the U.S. back in the 30s. Marx critiqued capital so I don't know what "Marxist ecocomics" are. If anything, Reagenomics and Thatcherism should be discarded as they have taken two of the most powerful nations on earth and ruined them economically despite their proaganda. Just like at the U.S. And UK now and see.

Here's another myth to add to the pile. It's up there with "Hoover caused the Great Recession by not getting the Federal Government involved." It took a decade for the US to escape that depression. Compare that to the forgotten depression of 1920 where the Federal Reserve and Federal Government did nothing, prices adjusted, and the economy was great a year later.

Keynesians don't have good examples to back up their ideology. They just look at bad economic periods where big government was utilized to stimulate the economy, notice that recovery takes several years if it even happens at all (i.e. Japan), and say that a) their model shows things would be worse without intervention, or b) intervention was too slow and small. We could try to build a death star during the next recession and when it doesn't lead to the economic growth that Keynesians promise, they will just say we should have built 2.

So whats wrong with just doing what so many people here do? Get a second job, a better paying job, or roommates? People who whine that every single job should pay a living wage are either delirious or entitled. All occupations are not equal, and therefore do not pay the same. Just like how all states are not equal when it comes to cost of living. So many people on strike were first generation immigrants. Why did they choose to move to the most expensive state in the country? There are plenty of states where one job is enough. Hawaii is not one of them, unless, as previously mentioned, you have a good job. Menial, unskilled labor generally isnt really seen as a good job here.

So please, will one of you guys tell me why having a single unskilled job should be enough for you to live in the most expensive state in the country? Or why people cant simply have roommates? I just dont understand why some people dont realize that Hawaii is expensive is hell, and that there are drawbacks that come with living here.

This about Hiroshima and Nagasaki?

Because it did save lives.

The US knew Operation Downfall would be costly, and we still use medals made for it to give to soldiers now. Projections put the casualties far above the bombs.

The US put out flyers telling civilians to leave military cities as they were going to bomb them, so we gave warning.

And Japanese generals were planning on spreading the Bubonic Plague in Southern California in September, so it's not like they weren't coming up with plans to kill thousands or potentially millions of people just to screw over their enemy.

Yes, a living wage. Which here in Hawaii has to be around $70k yearly if you want to live by yourself. You could easily get by with what those hotel guys were making if you have a roommate.

But I just want to know why he thinks everyone deserves a living wage with a single job, regardless of job demand, education/skill requirements, and the cost of living. Wages arent a one-size-fits-all kind of thing.

presumably because everyone deserves to live?

The previous generations had a living wage to go by, why cant us? Yall tell us not to ***** about not having a living wage yet I constantly see baby boomers crying about millennials killing this industry, millennials arent moving out of their parents homes, millennials arent financing mortgages or cars, millennials have so much debt to their eyeballs, and etc.

Because times and prices change? Or should I complain that I cant buy a nice 3 bedroom house in Kailua for $14K like my grandparents did? If millennials arent moving out, they can be saving for the future.

But once again, Im not seeing an answer to my question...just deflection and bitterness.

Religion
The dark ages were scary, so people came up with religion to cope. But we don't live in the dark ages anymore, and people still can't cope. Also kids being brainwashed into believing in religion doesn't help.

those are actions at the individual level. They do not solve systemic issues like the cost of living being too high for most people to adequately live
