I mean, if you're going to have a cake for a gender transition party, why go out of your way to find the most right wing christian baker you can find?

Many of those stories sound like they're just trying to get refused so they can make the news

Folks could argue that the LGBT community should be "shamed and mocked," into "believing the right thing," doesn't make it right though.

It has been shamed and mocked. This is balancing out the scales.

If one side of the scale has a lot of weight on it, you need an equal amount on the other side to balance it out

Spoken like a true dictator. Good day.

A dictator controls the powerless.

I want to bring those with power down to scale and even things out.

A small time baker is someone you consider to be with power? It just sounds like anger towards religious people.

This is a slippery slope. A bunch of people sharing beliefs could completely ostracize parts of a community. Maybe not in larger cities, but in smaller or more rural areas where options are limited?

I'd like for you to consider how this could affect people in reality; being discriminated against for their own beliefs.

That's being ignorant and ain't showing up shit. Its immature and petty, and whether they like it or not, there will always be a stigma from a certain amount of people. Forcing a bakery to make a cake isn't going to change that.

Did shaming and mocking the LGBTQ community get them to be quiet and conform?

No. No it fucking didn't. It made them louder and louder until they started being heard. Not saying that's a bad thing, but it's what happened.

But yeah, just keep shaming and mocking everyone you don't agree with. I'm sure they'll just be quiet about it and won't, say, vote in more and more politicians that openly defy everything you stand for.

Also so many people are missing the big picture.

To challenge a ruling, you need to be wronged. In the first case, it sounds like should he be forced to not discriminate was never actually ruled on. So in order to get a ruling on that, you need someone to go get wronged.

Theyre doing this to get their eggs in a row and actually force the SCOTUS to actually make a ruling in the discrimination part.

But keep crying because a Christian baker is trying to discriminate against people for literally no reason besides muh book. Him serving those people will literally not hurt him in any way.

This baker and others like him already agreed to bake these cakes when they opened their businesses in cities or States that required them to treat their customers equally. It's ironic that so many so-called conservatives - the self-proclaimed party of personal responsibility, the party of law and order - are throwing the law and the responsibility to obey the law right out the window all of a sudden.

The law which this baker already agreed to abide by.

Setup to get SCOTUS to rule on discrimination though, considering it appears that the first ruling had nothing to do with whether or not the baker can refuse service to gays or not.

That's what i feel. It's a testy slope given how we treat precedent in the country.

Like when folks say "shop somewhere else" what if you're in an area with not a lot of options? How out of the way should you go to acquire a product if you're refused service on grounds of sexuality vs religious objection?

The occasion, Scardina told the bakerys employees, was to celebrate her birthday, as well as the seventh anniversary of the day she had come out as transgender.

Masterpiece Cakeshop ultimately refused Scardinas order on religious grounds.

Phillips declined to create the cake with the blue-and-pink design because it would have celebrated messages contrary to his religious belief that sex the status of being male or female is given by God, is biologically determined, is not determined by perceptions or feelings, and cannot be chosen or changed, the complaint stated.

If she just left it at birthday, cake would've been made.

Also, I'd love to find out if this person had a cake for the other anniversaries.

Last I checked it was after they said what the cake was for (7th anniversary of coming out).

It was when the cake was about the anniversary, If they just left it at its a blue and pink cake for a birthday, he would've made it.
