Well, I guess it's not 100% unambiguous. Literally speaking, a person who performs an abortion on themselves is a person upon whom an abortion has been performed, but I suppose it's not out of the question a court could find that "upon whom an abortion has been performed" means "upon whom an abortion been performed by another person."

Also, adding to the states doing this: Missouri Senate passed a bill banning abortion after 8 weeks. Only exception would be health of the mother. Governor indicates he'll sign it, still needs a vote by the (Republican controlled) House.

Actually, that doesn't necessarily follow. It would be logically consistent to be against punishing women for getting abortions if you believe women are inherently incapable of making their own decisions. You know, kind of like how dogs aren't thrown in jail if their owner uses them for dogfighting. One could believe punishing a women is pointless for similar reasons but still support punishing the other people involved.

This is the logic the US Supreme Court used 100+ years ago to uphold an Oregon law setting a maximum number of hours per week women could work after striking down a New York law setting a maximum number of work hours for everyone.

From the perspective of "do I support this bill or not?", I feel like whether the bill criminalizes seeking or performing an abortion...doesn't really matter?

If you want our society to allow abortion you're probably going to be upset regardless, and if you don't want our society to allow abortion then you're probably going to be happy regardless, I would think. (Unless one of these options is just very ineffective in terms of achieving the desired impact, but I think you see what I'm trying to say)

As an Ivy League graduate (with honors) who grew up in poverty, this absolutely fucking infuriates me. Weighing "adversity" in what are supposed to be the most objective assessments of ability is what will lead to the collapse of our civilization. The best should be rewarded, no matter what their background. Are we going to now give extra points to sports teams who employ the most disadvantaged players (growing up)?

You're right, but unfortunately, too many of "the best" are in schools that are overcrowded meaning they have less time actually engaging with their teachers, they attend schools without the ability to properly supply gifted students with appropriate levels of education, their schools don't have the money to provide the technologies that other students have, teachers are overworked and therefore provide a lesser quality service than they could otherwise.

I think that's fine.

It would be terrible if they were obscuring the actual test results by adjusting the SAT scores based on background, but it sounds like they're just introducing a separate metric to also capture a student's background, in addition to their current level of academic ability. So like the test still communicates the student's ability the same as it did before, but they're adding additional information in the form of this adversity metric. Also pointing out universities are still free to choose whether or not this metric even matters depending on what their own values are.

Obviously the argument for why this metric is relevant to college admissions goes something like "people from poorer backgrounds are likely to have received worse education, and so they have likely not received as good of preparation and will have their actual likelihood to succeed underestimated by the SAT score."

This has already been gamed. Rich parents "move" the family to poor neighborhoods when their child enters high school, so that their child can easily be valedictorian and also can claim to come from a poor area.

All this kind of bad policy will do is make it harder than it already is for genuine poor kids to get into good colleges, because they will increasingly be forced to compete, during high school, with rich kids and their families who are exploiting the system.

In Kentucky there was a surprisingly large amount of people that would register Democrat but then always vote Republican straight ticket just in the area I lived in, so I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't super uncommon.

I'm not sure why.

The fact that this is "shocking" to anyone just proves how little the left actually pays attention to/understands the right at all.

Glenn Beck fired her for continuing to promote pro-abortion views like three years ago, which is exactly how she ended up at Fox in the first place.
