I think the handling changes a bit to reflect the sidecar but if you mean beyond cosmetic differences... I don't think so? It's possible some dialogue is altered slightly if you have it but I don't know.

Well, you're probably struggling to remember because the game didn't make too much of an effort to explain it! Still one of my favorite moments in FFVIII is when Dr. Odine says that Ultimecia probably has a strong motive for wanting to compress time, but then goes, "But it doesn't matter." I mean, I guess as far as the heroes themselves are concerned, it really doesn't, but come on, man! Help the player out here!

Anyway, the basic idea behind time compression (or time kompression, if you prefer) is that past, present, and future all get compressed into a single, timeless moment. According to the game, only Ultimecia could truly exist in such a state, although, again, it doesn't really elaborate on why she can or why no one else could. Maybe because she's the one who cast the spell? I don't know.

Oh, you mean the plan to actually stop it? Beyond Laguna's "Love each other and believe in each other!" speech, that is?

Well, the idea was for the party to beat Adel, Rinoa to take her powers, let Ultimecia possess her, and then have Ellone send Ultimecia's consciousness further back into the past so she can use the time compression magic. Then as she's using it, Ellone brings Rinoa back to the present and they all ride the flow of time into the future, or something. They don't really explain the details of why it needs to work like that. Maybe Ultimecia needed someone as powerful as Adel to function as a vessel so she could properly cast the spell.

My personal theory is that Ultimecia needed three different points in time (one to function as the past, one as the present, and one as the future), but the game never says anything to that effect, but whatever.

Feeling a bit burnt out on PoE II atm so I took the rare step of starting up Persona Q2 since I've been in a real slump for days now.

Gameplay still kinda bad but I played up until you get the P3 FeMC and she is such a treasure purchase justified already. Also, Elizabeth's voice was not what I expected it to be but her and Theo are great too. Cool new QoL addition to the Velvet Room though, now if you do a fusion you can flag a persona being used in it to be "copied" (You "keep" the Persona used it just tags the Compendium re-summon cost on the fusion itself, basically saving you the step of re-summoning yourself.) Only downside is it doesn't let you do this on Fusion Search as far as I can tell, only when you go through the manual choose 2 Persona method. But since Fusion Search shows you the combination used it's not that bad.

now if only i could overthrow the phantom thieves as the central characters of this story for the rightful heroine

I'm realizing that good group healing is difficult to come by in Cold Steel. Elliot's Craft that gives you Regen and increased defense is a treasure, but I guess I need to keep Holy Breath on a good caster.

Usually Alisa's Blessed Arrow craft is good in my experience (and Heavenly Arrow makes the party much harder to hit thanks to the party Insight). It doesn't work on her though so you need a secondary method for when Alisa herself needs healing. Elliot's Resounding Beat is great, yeah.

Other than a few other crafts on Elliot/Emma (and Emma is single target IIRC) Holy Breath is usually the way to go, yeah.

Yeah, Emma's is only single-target, but it at least cures KO and any status effects, which is nice. I don't think I've used Alisa since I recruited her back into the party. I tackled that cryptid with Rean/Laura/Emma/Gaius/Sara/Fie because I needed the latter four for a Trial Chest that was in the area. I guess I could have changed the party around, but I didn't want to bother rearranging orbments.

Plus, I had no idea it was going to be a level 100 monster when I encountered it.

Okay, random CS2 theorizing moment here. Like I said, I've been listening to the CS2 sample CD they gave with this edition, and I've come to love the song, "I'll Remember You." I'll put the rest in spoilers because I'm going to reference the ends of Trails SC and CS1 in the process.

However, the title of the song is making me curious as to its meaning. It sounds like something you'd say after someone has died, so I'm starting to wonder if someone is going to die by the end. Crow feels like the most likely candidate if someone does. However, Trails has been notoriously reluctant to perma-kill characters. I'm pretty sure the only character they killed off in the entire Trails in the Sky trilogy (not counting those who died before the game began, that is) was Weissman, right?

Heck, even as Osborne was being shot at the end of CS1, I wasn't convinced he was actually going to die. And lo and behold, right before she left the party, Claire drops the bombshell that Osborne's body went "missing" shortly after he was shot, which seems to confirm my theory that he's not really dead. After all, there was way too much buildup about Osborne for him to just unceremoniously get killed off before the story actually does something with him. This isn't Star Wars, after all...!

...Loewe? But, yeah, Trails doesn't actually kill people often. Excluding "dead before it started" I think the Sky body count is just Loewe and Weissmann and maybe Luciola, but we don't see a body and I forget what, if anything, 3rd said on the matter.

CS1 actually has a decent number of characters die, though most of them are unnamed (Sky doesn't even have unnamed characters die, IIRC).

I mean, there are definitely moments in the games where casualties are strongly implied if not confirmed, but even in those cases, the game goes out of its way to tell you that casualties were somehow held to a minimum.

Also, I did forget that Gideon died in Cold Steel 1. Speaks volumes about the kind of character he is, although the fact that it happened offscreen (I assume it happens onscreen in the Crossbell game) makes it easier to forget.

I think the cap is 5x, it can get pretty high in boss fights because it's much easier to get a bunch of assist attack bonuses and other stuff like cancelling a bunch of times which seriously adds up in a way that short/normal fights can't.

AoT Season 3.II Final Pre-Basement Episode 5: would watch a full episode of levi just annihilating titans. lmfao at zeke crying about how he's still won because levi "must have used all his weapons" (which he didn't when it next cut to him lol) lmao. the salt. HANGE MVP. DID THE GROUNDWORK FOR ARMIN'S PLAN. CAME OUT OF NOWHERE TO WRECK REINER. also o7 Armin. if only that had been eren instead.

Also HxH 2011 beated. Amazing anime. Probably Top 5 but I don't feel like thinking about my list or whatever so i dunno maybe it's like #6 if I ever thought about it again. Ended real strong (though not particularly the last episode IMO, second-to-last honestly felt more emotional to me). Gon is a fascinating character. Killua is a better friend than he deserves. Kurapika was robbed by lack of screentime. And Leorio had one of the best moments in the entire show towards the end lmao.

Chimera Ant > Yorknew > Election > Greed Island > Hunter Exam/Heaven's Arena

Once Yorknew started rolling I was pretty much permanently hooked although the earlier arcs had some excellent moments as well.

Well, what helped is that the boss respawns its minions after you kill them, so I probably triple killed like 3 or 4 waves of them.

But you might as well call Attack on Titan "The Ackerman Show" now after that episode because Levi and Mikasa both had top tier moments in that episode. First top tier moment from Mikasa in a long time, too.

Next episode is setting up to be quite the thing.
