It's Friday, which means BattleBots is back on the air for another night of metal-munching mayhem... and this week is sure to be an absolute shocker. The top 8 for the championship tournament have been determined, but so many deserving bots are itching to get in that the selection committee can't even choose! So tonight, they're giving us a full card of 8 incredible battles, all with the same stipulation: WIN AND YOU'RE IN!



The main event pits two of the most devastatingly powerful weapons in the field against each other as the former UK champion team of Cobalt take on the Brazilian bull, Minotaur! Also tonight, Son Of Whyachi looks to avenge being knocked out of the postseason by Poison Arrow three years ago, as it takes on Poison Arrow's successor, Copperhead. These battles tonight will finalize the field for the championship tournament that begins next week. Which bots will join Witch Doctor, Hydra, Death Roll, Tombstone, Sawblaze, Whiplash, the Desperado tournament winner Black Dragon, and the defending BattleBots champion Bite Force? Tune in tonight at 8PM EST on the Discovery Channel to watch the carnage unfold!

This is what eventually happens, so many of these bots I like to see and root for... but then it means the other is out.

The 2 concerns I have are cobalt having issues with minotaur due to that feeder lip getting ripped off twice now, and minotaur being... very likely to rip it off rendering it moot.

SoW getting sent into orbit by copperhead from sheer kinetic implosion.

Same, I like both of them. I wonder if Hypershock has a secret weapon in store?

I think it's low enough that it could rip off Duck's wheels if it landed a hit from the side. But with Duck's driving, whether Yeti gets a hit like that is another story.

Agreed, that was a brilliant victory in a dire situation. When Valkyrie got flipped so that the disc was on top of the bot (why didn't they send it out like that to begin with?) I had a feeling that the tooth was going to be ripped off, and I thought Quantum would be done for after that.

Yeti defintely had that and even the judges agreed. For next match I expect Lock-Jaw to take it, but I'm not super sure on that either.

I really think Hal needs to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new design. Yes, Duck is a very durable and a fantastic spinner-killer. But when Duck runs into a weapon/bot that won't kill itself faster than it can kill Duck, especially one that actually has the edge in pushing power like Yeti did, there's almost nothing Duck can do. It's a design that's very dependent on the opponent, and a design like that just isn't championship material IMO. It's a shame, because I like the bot and the man behind it.

Quantum lost its tooth but still managed to beat Valkyrie with some excellent driving, Duck looked more like a fish out of water and Yeti easily beat it by a judge's decision, and Lock-Jaw just knocked out Skorpios in dominant fashion. Five more fights to come.

There's usually a second follow up on friday. So if it was missed it's re-aired about 2 hours later. Assuming one doesn't wanna wait for another method.

I should probably clarify that when I say 2 hours later, I mean after it's off. So for CST it's 7-9 then 11-1, so 4 hours after the original first airing. Not sure how streaming handles it.

Wow. Not only did the rake not do much to HUGE, it actually backfired on Hypershock and jammed its own disc. I can't say I expected that...

Daaaamn, that was a great fight.

Good strategy by Hypershock, but they got caught on a couple nasty hits. If they were able to stick to their gameplan for all three minutes, I feel they probably would've taken it.

Railgun's weapon is so insanely powerful that it can kill two bots in one hit! Sadly, one of the bots it killed was itself.

BattleBots had a 6 robot last chance rumble last season. There was also a 10 robot rumble in the last season of UK Robot Wars.

But it needs to have hilarious floor hazards, like maybe trap doors opening randomly, or drills popping out of the ground.

I was hoping Rail Gun Max could do it, but oh well. It was my favorite of the Chinese bots personally.

That said, if I'm Railgun, I don't go after Bloodsport first. The other bot has angles of attack where you don't risk catching their weapon.

Of course, it looked like most of the damage came from the recoil of their own attack.

I guess being on the defensive is the way to go in free for all matches? Because I feel like Uppercut won almost entirely due to the fact that the hit that threw Bloodsport out really hurt Railgun too.

Rotator finally going back to the double-disc setup of their original design is good to see. I'm still in shock from that Railgun hit though. I haven't seen a bot launch another bot from the center of the arena to completely out of the arena like that since Wheely Big Cheese.

I got some grub and just got back in time to see the decision.

I'm glad Blacksmith won, but I didn't think it would be unanimous between the judges.

No argument from me on that decision. Blacksmith controlled 95% of that fight and Rotator only landed like two good hits, even if one of them knocked out Blacksmith's hammer. Plus, Al's reaction after the decision came down looked like the face of a man who thought all day that everyone had forgotten his birthday and just came home to the a massive surprise party with all his friends there. His face was pure bliss in that moment.

I like SoW, but I'm not sure if I want to see it in the playoffs.

Everything I've seen and heard indicates that it's pretty much a 50/50 bot in that, it's either going to destroy the competition immediately or take itself out. I'm sure the destruction's always something to see, but I don't think it makes for particularly interesting matches.

Rooting for Copperhead in this next one.
