Based on the failed attempt to use that Noble Phantasm I'm guessing Saber was Artoria Alter. Excalibur Morgan and all that.

The only descriptor that may be better than the one you used is corrupted, so that's a good way of looking at it yes.

Short version: More or less.

Longer version: Kinda. I think it depends a bit on the medium. At a guess with absolutely zero evidence to back it up, I think the best way to likely conceptualize this is a ruthless version of Arthur who is all-in on ends justify the means no matter what.

Something's clearly up with these guys, and Berserker seems surprisingly fresh for a guy who just took out a Saber. "What do you know about what happened here?"

The human and the ringleader share a look. "We know plenty. We are not looking for trouble with you. Take your Servant with you, and it will be mutually beneficial if this meeting never happened."

You let them think they've won, and head back to your base. You're close enough to get there quickly, and you decide to send out one of the dolls. (Phantom calls them "coloraturas.") Tailing and reporting back might wind up being too complicated for their limited cognition to handle, but Phantom won't send Christine out by herself, and you're not willing to risk him, yourself, or a Command Seal right now. You settle down and wait to hear back.

The rain stops, and the night comes and goes with no sign of your scout. It probably should've been back by now. Also, Phantom has made a third doll, but is now out of parts.

1) Head towards New Derse to figure out what happened.

It's time to check out this place, if your resources are disappearing into it. You and Phantom cobble together some outfits from the remains of the soldiers, and a little bit of illusion should give you a fighting chance of passing for Dersites if the need arises. Of course, you're hoping not to be seen much in the first place, but why tempt fate?

The city is walled and guarded, but enough activity is going on at the gate that the two of you can slip in without tons of issue. Inside is a bustling little city, with Dersites, mostly of the smaller disposition, scrambling everywhere- it seems like many of them are upset about something. There are some weirdly tall towers towards the center of the city.

1) Investigate the hubbub

Whatever the commotion is, it's probably as good a place to start as any. You follow the general flow of people, to an open square that seems to be the center of things. There appears to be a strong police presence, and at the middle of the square, there's a platform erected. Two humans(!) are on the platform, with a tall object under a tarp. There's a tall man with a staff, and a short and fat one behind him. The tall man is stirring up the crowd, clearly riling them up against "the Black Queen," who appears to represent the local government. The Queen has done nothing to protect the people from this Grail War- these two may be outsiders, but they are uniquely qualified to protect this glorious city from the crossfire. They will win the Grail War, and then lead Derse to victory in the War of Skaia! But they cannot do it while the city is threatened by their fellow Grail War participants. Look at this CREATURE that was sent to kill them last night!

The fat man pulls the tarp off....and it's the Coloratura you sent, strung up to a pole, inoperable, and damaged enough to look extra gross. Phantom seethes. The crowd is reaching a fever pitch, and the police are starting to look twitchy. This is a powder keg waiting to blow.

1) Challenge them.
2) Sic Phantom on them.
3) Agitate the crowd further.
4) Wait and see how this plays out.
5) Find a safe place before this boils over.

I think PK has the right of it here.

It's unfortunate about your Coloratura, but these things happen, and there's no helping it now. Giving these guys a little push is as likely to serve your purposes as it is theirs. An angry outburst here, a blustering extra policeman there, and the crowd is that much closer to breaking. The tall man makes eye contact with you, but if he knows you're contributing, he doesn't show it. The crowd starts jostling, and the police have had enough, and start in with their truncheons! The fat man leaps off the stage, squashing a couple of them, and the tall man.....transforms into a snake, and starts eating the police! You don't know what backup exists for the law enforcement side, but at this rate, they are going to be wiped out in seconds.

1) Observe from a safe distance

-a) ....but keep your cover
-b) ....at full strength
3) Attack the ringleaders

Well, when in Rome! After a quick word with Phantom, you join in the fun, but are careful not to exceed the abilities of an average Dersite by TOO much. The mob might have been able to handle this itself by force of numbers, but with you, Phantom, the giant basilisk thing, and the (apparently quite strong) fat guy, the establishment barely even presents a speedbump. The riot courses through the streets, sweeping away anything in its path, and reaches the center of the city, where the towers are. It seems that this is the center of government here. The guards are slightly more prepared, but it makes little difference. The riot bursts into the tallest tower, and starts a bloody ascent.

It almost seems too easy to fight your way through the defenders here, but then, you've not been particularly impressed with New Derse's military so far, and you have at least one Servant on your side. Some of the guards look kinda weird, even by Derse standards.

Hey where are you standing?
1) We're right up at the front alongside the leaders.
2) We're in the middle of the mob, not standing out too much.
3) This seems like a good time to slip away, actually.
4) Bringing up the rear to stay out of too much trouble.
