I genuinely like Tulsi. I really think if the Democrats nominated her, they would have a chance of getting back into the good graces of the American People.

i think tulsi is fine, she wouldn't be the worst nominee the dems could have. though she certainly has flaws and the fact that breitbart is gushing over her probably isn't a good sign.

just saying that "she's trying to save the dems!!" isn't very persuasive when you're saying this to a bunch of people who hate the dems. if you want to convince people here she's good, it would be better to explain what's good about her positions.

White House denies Trump's tweet was witness intimidation
The White House has just issued a statement denying that Trumps tweet smearing the reputation of Maria Yovanovitch as she testified in the impeachment inquiry amounted to witness intimidation.

The tweet was not witness intimidation, it was simply the Presidents opinion, which he is entitled to, said White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham.

She went on to slam the inquiry as a whole: There is less due process in this hearing than any such event in the history of our country. Its a true disgrace.

Has that defense worked... ever?

I'm not trying to save the Dems though. I did before and I concluded that the party is so far lost that they just aren't ready to come back to reality at this point. So right now, the optimal strategy is to try to saddle the Dems with the worst possible nominee (probably Biden) so the Republicans win again and again, until the Democrats finally learn.

Probably, if it's an opinion. Let's see if it is?

Everywhere Marie Yovanovitch went turned bad.

Pure opinion.

She started off in Somalia, how did that go?

The only fact here is that she was working in Somalia - seems like a true and nonintimidating fact. The rest is opinion.

Then fast forward to Ukraine, where the new Ukrainian President spoke unfavorably about her in my second phone call with him.

Purely a second-hand opinion.

It is a U.S. Presidents absolute right to appoint ambassadors.

True statement of fact which does not criticize or pressure this ambassador at all.

...They call it serving at the pleasure of the President.

True fact.

The U.S. now has a very strong and powerful foreign policy, much different than proceeding administrations. It is called, quite simply, America First!

Pure opinion.

With all of that, however, I have done FAR more for Ukraine than O.

Pure opinion.

I would literally take a centrist democrat over Tulsi, who uses her more independent leanings to pander to right-wing interests harder while insisting the system is corrupt. None of them stand for anything except Tulsi is also a professional contrarian.

I'd probably take her over Delaney, the other billionaires and businessmen buying their way in, and the rest of the literally whos though so I'll concede that too.

More polling out the past couple of days:
https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/latest_polls/

Biden is up in Nevada still, but only by about +6 or so with Warren and Sanders both at 18. Buttigieg seems to have surged a bit here too but he's at least a tier below these three for now. Warren/Sanders within striking distance is good particularly if one of them can win one (or both!) of the first two states).

Worse news from NC where two polls have Biden up huge and (more concerning) both Warren and Sanders struggle to crack that 15% needed to get any delegates at all. I'm hoping as more candidates drop out they should get above that thresh hold in NC at least, but again in the southern states it is a legitimate concern that Biden bodies them so badly that he takes 100% of the delegates.

Fox News polls has both Bernie/Biden up +7 over Trump in Nevada and both (!) ahead of him in NC by the slimmest of margins. Too far out and Republicans always come home so I'm not optimistic about NC but at least the senate race should be somewhat close depending on who the dems put up.

Sort of yes. A good chunk are awarded by statewide vote while the rest go by the individual districts.

I could be wrong but I think it would require someone to outright win the district to get their delegate though, right? If Warren/Sanders are getting more than doubled than Biden statewide, I would think they would only win maybe one or two districts if I'm being generous.

Edit: Ok so a quick google search shows each Texas district had three delegates in 2016 and delegates are awarded proportionally by result in the district. So If Warren gets like 20% in one while Biden gets 40% she wouldn't be completely shut out. That's a bit more reassuring at least!

Think you're wrong.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/15-percent-is-not-a-magic-number-for-primary-delegates/

tl;dr in bulletpoint form:

-There are state-level delegates and district*-level delegates
*Really it's more like state-level and "other." Most states use congressional district but some use county or state legislature districts as their lower-level division.

-538 says about 35% of the delegates are state-level.

-If you fail to reach 15% state-wide you can't get any state-wide delegates but if you reached 15% in a district you get some delegates from there.

-Conversely, even if you break 15% state-wide you could possibly miss some district-level delegates if you failed to break 15% in a particular district.

To Suprak's point specifically, there's a thought-experiment in the article where they have Biden getting 14% state-wide and note that while he wouldn't get any state-level delegates, with 14% state-wide you'd expect him to break 15% in like 40% of the districts and so he'd pick up some district-level delegates. This wouldn't work if there was only a single delegate per district.

Well, yeah. That 538 article has a graph plotting roughly what you'd expect to see in delegates with the thresholds vs. if everything was just apportioned out with no such thresholds.

At around 10% state-wide you see it rise off 0 but it stays pretty low until the big jump at 15% when the state-level kick in, but it still below the no-threshold line and doesn't really catch up until about 20% because of the expected losses at district-level.

Well, impeachment is not a law, so "Congress shall make no law...." does not apply. But Congress could impeach Trump for having a mother who was born in Scotland if they wanted. The Democrats are trying to say that they aren't just making a power grab, and are likening Trump's actions to crimes. So it seems like they should need to comply with the usual rules regarding crimes.
