Because finding your apartment number, finding takes quite a bit of time, especially since you don't give any instructions on how to find it.

Speaking from years of food delivery experience, nope. Usually you're relying on a building number and an apartment number.

Upscale apartments generally do. It's pretty hit or miss with ghetto apartments.

Probably depends on the apartment complex. Some of the ones I know are extremely easy to navigate. Others, less so. To be honest, I know a few housing developments that are way harder to navigate, even with GPS.

Though it's worth noting that it also probably depends on the pizza place. If they're competent enough to be able to pass on complex instructions to the driver, it probably wouldn't be that difficult to say something like "When you get to my apartment complex call my phone number and I'll come out to meet you/help you with directions" to get them to where they need to be. But if the pizza place barely gives a shit and the driver doesn't really get much more than street/building/apartment number, then it doesn't really matter how much info the person ordering gave in the first place.

I don't even know what building I live in. There's supposed to be some giant number on the side but the way it's set up there's 25 angles on each wing of the building and the buildings are set up like a bunch of failed Tetris pieces after you give up.

My complex has 8 different buildings, A through H, and they are laid out kind of haphazardly and are barely labeled at all (each building has maybe one plaque with the building number, and generally not where one would go looking for it, I don't get it)

So I don't think this is true at all. Just giving an apartment number and building letter, someone could potentially be walking around for 10+ minutes trying to find it without instructions.

Drew a little diagram because I felt like it.
This is basically how it is laid out, and the whole complex has an address on the major road. I am back in Building D though(and all the buildings are 2 story with little courtyards in the middle, and all apartment doors leading to the courtyards).

So if I just gave someone my address, they would most likely turn in from the major road to that first parking lot, and then have to look all over the complex for building D.

So usually I write in the instructions to park along the neighborhood road in the back, and that building D is the one right behind the main parking lot in the back.

So I called and complained and got the usual we cant contact the driver blah blah blah but we will have them deliver it tomorrow.

I was awake, at the computer, with the door open, refreshed and attempted delivery. So I called immediately. They told me they had tried and left a sticky note. I said no they didnt as I had the door open for 2 hours waiting on them... so they offered to try again on Monday or I could go pick it up.

So for my lunch break thats what I did. Of course I barely made it down there and got attitude from the guy at the desk why are you even here? Because your driver claimed to attempt delivery twice and we never saw him.

They really should have the option to leave a number and have the driver call you if you are having trouble for more places, because yeah this just sounds infuriating, and especially when its something you kind of need like high speed internet, and you arent able to get it right away because of human error.

I think it just depends on the apartment. For all the apartments I've been in, there's never been trouble when ordering food. Especially since in certain areas, most of the veteran delivery people know abot certain harder to find places. But most are simply apartment complex name (or something of that sort), building number (is applicable), and apartment number...

I have delivered food at multiple jobs, and only a few places have been terrible to find, and usually it has to do with messed up building numbers as opposed to the actual appartments themselves, not to say that I didn't have any hard to find apartments but it's usually not that bad

I usually arrange a time and place to meet the delivery person, especially if the apartment complex has gates. Since the COVID-19 started, I had them call me when they reach the gate. Then I would arrive, and stand about 6 ft. from it and ask them to set the pizza box on the ground. After they get into their car, I would open the gate and pick up the box.
