But seriously, the death penalty is a complicated issue. There is always going to be a possibility that someone is wrongfully convicted, and the potential to kill an innocent man gives me pause in wanting them dead (I'm not Donald Trump after all, and am not going to put out a full-page ad in the New York Times, calling for the execution of five innocent black kids for a crime they didn't commit). The way I see it, as long as someone is imprisoned, then at least they are being punished for their crimes without the finality of death in the event of innocence.
Death penalty needs reformed. However, the issue is the people who say the death penalty is inhumane and should never be allowed to even be contemplated.

Like I said, it's a complicated issue. Because no amount of reform will ever completely eliminate the possibility of an innocent man being sentenced to death for a crime he didn't commit.

And, yes, I am going to compare wishing deaths on American citizens that you don't like versus not wishing death and just rehabilitation for people who are mass murderers.

You do realize when we rehabilitate someone, we don't just let them walk free while we're doing it, right? Rehabilitation still requires punishment and they still go to prison for an extended period of time.

Hey, if Trump was actively in prison right now then you might have a point. But he's still out there, making poor decisions that are actively killing Americans.

Your comparison might make sense if we're still letting the killers go free while we rehab them, and letting them to continue to kill. But we wouldn't be doing that.

When you hire an attorney, they may do your will in the way they think is best legally, but they make their own actions. Trump is not responsible for the actions that Guiliani does, nor does it make Guiliani a head of state. No idea wtf you were going for with on that one.

You will not be prosecuted, Rock, if your personal attorney decides to go run over a group of wayward children.

There is nothing wrong anyways with Guiliani taking legal actions to challenge votes. That is their right to do, and it is a reason we have a legal system. If Trump was committing a coup, it would be a lot different scenario than losing a ton of court cases repeatedly.

But, again! Your analogy never made sense in the first place. It was dumb from the beginning. Yes, you are treating your political side like a sports team and are talking in the way one would do who is way too obsessed with their team in regards to opponents. Except, deep down the sports nut probably knows they aren't truly serious (they just want to win), while you seem more serious about wanting death to occur.

If the act is illegal, he has a reasonable expectation that the lawyer would have known the law and gave legal advise stating why it could not be done.

That said, Rudy is again doing nothing wrong here. He is just exhausting all legal avenues for Trump. If Trump wants to pay him to lose court cases all day, then hey! More power to him!

But, do you agree it is a hypocritical stance for being against the death penalty.

Or are you saying that once in custody they are no longer in a position to harm so its moot at that point?

Yes, I don't mind the death penalty aside from our criminal justice system isn't good enough to have that penalty given the mistakes made.

Which is a bit of a problem.

But also yeah not in a position to harm also plays into it for me. But like, if Trump had been shot in January maybe less covid deaths, you know? But that said hope Rudy's son recovers, from what I know nothing too ghoulish about him.

completely unrelated from all this, back to real world stuff.

in NYC schools recently closed because of covid again.
well, we're getting some numbers now. the school system is about 1.1 million. only about 335k have said they're going back. a third. this is the highest value possible too btw, meaning that at least 3/4 of a million of students aren't going back to in person schooling when schools open back up. also for students who started with remote learning, only about 35k have requested some form of in person schooling.

education is in complete shambles.

The GOP's stance on school in the pandemic is weird. Considering how an inherent part of their platform is to hurt youth education to raise more eventual GOP voters, you'd have thought they would have been totally on board with not sending anyone back to school. Guess they were so caught up in opposing whatever Dems do that they forgot that.

All I am saying is that if you disagree with the death penalty for people the justice system determines its an appropriate penalty for, then you shouldn't wish death on anyone at all.

If you do agree there is times when it is a net benefit for the death of someone, then so be it. I won't agree with political rivals, but I mean, if there is a terrorist out there that can cause harm to Americans through illegal actions that can take their lives, by all means your job as a government is to protect American lives.

I just don't agree with say Jakyl saying the death penalty should never be considered, and we should be all rehabilitation... if he is going to follow it up with I hope this American citizen that says something I don't like dies.

There is a sense of irony if a non-believer dies to something they didn't believe in. For example, the Flat Earth rocket guy. However, I can't say I can ever think of a scenario where I would be like I really hope this fucker dies so people realize he is dumb. I mean, that's a bit too far for me. I don't even agree with deplatforming or cancelling people. Now we are 10x further at wishing them literal death!

i've worked schools for years so i totally get what you mean there, and i can tell you that it's not much better from the educator's side. we all know the deficiencies and the issues the yearly schedule has with delivering content. personal gripe has always been the really shitty situation good students have because they're not getting nearly enough attention as they're rarely the focus; a certain amount of assertiveness by them and/or adults reaching out to them is needed to help them properly grow and develop as people.

but it's still a fucked situation here because we're spiraling to a point where public education is going to become a negative value for kids and teens because they're just gonna get significantly more out of home schooling, teaching themselves, or working. this also runs right through the budget like nothing else, funding? what funding, for who? there's a gigantic ecosystem that's gonna collapse if these numbers keep going the way they do.

at younger ages the main value school gives isn't necessarily the content but the social interactions, learning the rules, social dynamics, etc. like yeah some content is important to have there but you're trying to establish good habits and and intro to society more than anything else.

then we abandon all that because who needs home ec and civics, it's not like knowing how to cook is important right. -_-

  1. Fired a bunch of the Directors who were in charge of keepings things running smoothly
  2. Kept every overpaid Vice President (of which there are around 10) who basically sits around and do nothing
  3. Cut back none of the enormous benefits the President and Vice President have (for example, the President's personal food bills are footed by the University for some reason)
  4. Asked teachers to teach Winter/Summer session for free and tried guilt tripping the teachers into doing so by talking about how many jobs at the University would be 'saved'

Thread goes into it some more but the bans only applied to minors and licensed counselors (and not to clergy or private citizens.)

The decision creates a split in circuit decisions on the matter so it's probably on its way to SCOTUS. The dissent calls out the majority's "there's not sufficient evidence that conversion therapy is harmful!" by pointing out that medical experts have said conducting the research the majority wants here would be unethical because it would harm children.
