Welcome to the 22nd episode of Best & Worst... stuff.

Today we have Jackbox!

Only games in Jackbox Party Pack's #1, #2, #3 and #4 are eligible.
I want to split this topic up.
Individual packs are a touch too small.
And doing the whole lot of them is maybe too much.
So, half now... half... some time down the track. That ok?

Which Jackbox game did you enjoy the most?
And which was your least favourite to play?

Voting Form:

Best: drawful
Worst: word spud

I played a lot of these in the 2013-2018 era. It thankfully replaced cards against humanity in my social circle, but everything gets old after a while, even jackbox

Hard for me to pick a favorite, so I went with the easily approachable banger that features art, cleverness, and social deception. Probably the best intro to the series possible. can swap that out for fibbage if the players are less artistically inclined

Tee K.O. got the biggest laughs one night out of the entire group i'd ever seen- almost picked that one. It's missing the trickery but has so much fun, accidental cooperation, which makes it a good middle ground between the artsy, clever, and "lolz random" crowds.

I personally enjoy the semi grounded trivia games like fibbage and guesspionage, but they're a little more subdued and don't evoke as much laughter

Even the more niche ones like bidiots (or fakin it) add a lot of depth to the library- my roommates and I would crack that one out periodically

I have to be in a rare mood to enjoy the pure "say something random and vote on the funniest!!" genre, and word spud is the most undercooked one they have. Even when we're in the mood, it just doesn't work and literally no one wants to play it, which makes it an easy pick for worst.

That being said, I don't even remember what earwax or civic doodle were, so it's plausible that they're very rough

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.

I'll add my 2 cents...

I was first introduced to this game at a PAX after-party with friends in a hotel in Melbourne.
Can't remember the year, but #5 wasn't out yet.
About 10-12 people were there. Some friends. Some random.
Simple concept. Follow the instructions on the TV and use your phone to play party games. Love it.

Drinks were flowing and the laughs kept coming as we worked through the library.
Trivia games were ok. Games that required you to write something funny were ok.
However, I'm not the type to come up with something spontaneous and funny to get voted for.

Guesspionage was interesting, but so often there were cries of "Who was the survey market for that??"
Monster Seeking Monster, I kept getting rejected, but it had a few laughs with the flirting.

The games that required drawing, I felt, were the best.
It doesn't matter if you suck at drawing or are a Picasso. Anyone can enjoy it.
Bidiots, and to some extent, Civic Doodle were decent if things 'clicked'.

Drawful is bloody fantastic. And is easily a Top 2 for me.
@banananor put it into words better than I ever could.

Tee K.O... I have never laughed so hard in a game, in all my life, than I did that night.

After that... a Jackbox PAX after-party became an annual thing.
And I subsequently bought all the packs myself. Love Jackbox.

Worth noting that I have not played Word Spud, Lie Swatter, Bidiots, Bomb Corp, Earwax, Guesspionage, Fakin' It, or Monster Seeking Monster. Chances are they're worse, and that's why we've never played them.

Best: Earwax (fight me i swear to god if it gets the worst) HMs to tee k.o., drawful, fibbage, bracketeering, guesspionage and the fibbages and quiplashes. trivia murder party is solid too but way too heavily dependent on US knowledge
Worst: Word Spud lol

i'm also slightly surprised drawful 2 was excluded (yes it's standalone but still)

Best: Quiplash 2. Helps when your usual Jackbox group sucks at drawing.

Worst: Monster Seeking Monster. I've played it too much, my group is degenerates, there aren't enough messages per round, and the game feels like it goes on too long. Also, the zombie always wins.

Q1: At least one from every pack. I had to double check 1, but I did Drawful before, sooo...
Q2: Oh, really? Nice, a birthday gift for someone that sells itself.
Q3: No, but I've played it on stream before and oh man do I want to go dig for a clip from a couple months ago, that I'll save for a future topic.
Q4: Oh, absolutely, but most recently it was from Push the Button, not one of these.
Q5: Nah. I can do silkscreen myself if needs be.

word spud and earwax are legit answers

i'm only a little surprised by the "monster seeking monster" hate. the issue with it is that it takes everyone a couple of awkward plays before they realize it's not really a flirting game, it's a deep-ish mafia/one-night-ultimate-werewolf, and it takes a while to learn what the roles are

there's always that one horny or shy person that takes it a little too seriously, and that's kind of the game's fault
