So, I bought the expansion on sale. I had a level 40 Paladin from a couple years ago, but I think I'll just make a new character if I really get into it.

Is there a particularly good NA server to play on?

there are erpers and primal and aether, and there are also plenty of raiders on crystal and aether

it doesn't really matter too much, if you have friends playing go to the one they're on

aether has been recently booming with people because that's where a lot of the recent streamers made their characters

Don't bother with coils, you're not going to successfully run it with a pug group, mostly because nobody is going to run it.

Some people from my FC told me they'd run through it unsynced with me today so we did.

I feel it was a nice wrap up to ARR and it helps give some development to the twins which I thought was nice.

I mean that post only kinda proves my point, Crystal is in dead last. Look at just the first image alone.

Crystal being in dead last is probably why I've been able to get in relatively easy, if there's not as many players.

I never interact with anyone anyway so all of those downsides listed above don't matter to me.

I beat the endwalker msq and can confirm that they make several references just in this expansion to it, and one line by Alisae that changes if you've finished it or not.

There were even a few mentions of Eureka and the one visual reference to the Mhachi alliance raids lol

I kind of hated how optional it is, considering the cutscene of the cataclasm is one of the most impressively animated cutscenes Square ever made. Seems like a waste

Not directly relevant to HW other than adding context to the background of one particular Character. That said the guy who said coils isn't important at all is advice you should probably ignore, understanding the background to what's going on recontextualises a lot in xiv in terms of story and lore

and the point i'm making is that if you're looking for a type of player you'll find it by trying no matter what data center you're on
i have friends on primal and crystal who do raiding
just because crystal has the least amount of clears doesn't mean you won't find raiders on there

Sure, but Crystal literally has double digit player counts on certain servers clearing TEA vs hundreds upon hundreds on the average Primal server.

People on free trial can only play during certain hours and they are taking away the ability to buy the game now. Getting so popular that you have to stop selling I'd a funny problem to have.
Hopefully these changed make things better

All this shit talking about Crystal makes me want to pay to transfer my character to Primal since I wanna do raids and stuff eventually but I like my FC. Everyone's been helpful. I shoulda not listened to my friend when he picked the server for us lol.

As someone on Crystal DC (Balmung), I've never had issues with savage raids in PFer and there are enough groups recruiting on Discord that I don't feel like Im missing out on anything. Its just not the main focus of the DC.

The amount of bad players I've seen doing ARR content makes sense now. Leviathan and Shiva Extreme took 3 full attempts each before I finally got a party to beat it and I gave up on Ramuh Extreme and asked someone in my FC to solo it for me.

Did you use Duty Finder or Party Finder, Duty Finder for Extremes is considered a faux pas as most people are just trying to clear their dailies there.

I haven't had too much trouble getting PUG Extremes during peak hours on Crystal, but putting up an unsync clear will usually get you a carry quickly.

Duty finder. Whenever I check the party finder there's nothing I can queue up for since I'm only at the start of Heavensward.

What an idiot. Either the party wipes and you pull less or the party takes care of the w2w pull and everyone gets it over with quicklierly

some people are delusional thinking that DPS isn't the lowest on the totem pole, least important members of the team, especially DPS without rezzes or other utility outside of straight up damage.

How the hell do you get this cool thing

You have to do the dumb Omicron fates. The boss spawns once every 48 hours and you have to kill it multiple times. I got up at midnight and it finally spawned at 7:50 this morning.

Ah so that's the new fate mount. Guess I'll get it once I beat Endwalker

I'm definitely in the last third of the story

O.o That's some weird commentary on healing for pulls. I can only speak for White Mage and Astrologian, but the only times I have ever struggled with wall to wall pulls (post ARR, at any rate) has been where I didn't pay attention or was too greedy in doing damage. Even if the tank is undergeared or not using cooldowns, GCD healing has always been enough to weather through when I've exhausted OGCDs.

If you don't understand the arena moving or the constellations the previous one is constant wipes. If you have a leader that knows them all they are about equal.

I only wiped once on that fight, this one is much harder imo. imma try it again tomorrow using RDM instead of RPR and see how that goes.

Yeah Zodiark is tough as hell. He got my whole team the first time with that attack where he sweeps you off the stage. The constellation move is really tough to understand the first time you see it. Luckily I had one guy who told us all what to do after first two wipes

To me it just looks like a DPS player who is afraid of coming under scrutiny for shit not dying fast enough because they don't know how to AoE. Tanks purpose in dungeons is to enable big/wall pulls, you don't need a Tank for single/small pulls at all with a Healer who is even 25% competent. You can even run 4 DPS so long as you've got a RDM/SMN so boss fight TB's aren't a race against time.

tldr DPS players should love big pulls the most since it allows for better burst alignment throughout. Healers should love big pulls because healing anything less is boring as shit. Tanks should love big pulls because going slow is boring as shit and it's much better for cooldown management.

I'm impressed that it is 11:30 and there is still a 2000 person queue

It's so weird to me. I'm on Crystal too but I've had healers tell me to do bigger pulls. I only pull 2 or 3 mob groups usually because I dunno how the healer is so I don't want to get the group killed.

I got into an argument with someone during Titan Extreme though. He got mad at me for being too close to the other person being entombed when the healers already were dead and so were both tanks. I was just trying to jump off the edge before getting entombed.

Every server and data center has its supply of morons.

I'm currently in a story area that is fucking CRAZY. I can't believe I'm in the unsundered world chilling with Hythlodaeus, Emet Selch, and Hermes. Emet Selch has been hilarious.

Just finished up the MSQ.

It's been quite a trip these last few months. I'm glad that I took the dive.

I've come to terms with the fact that I'll never start Stormblood since as soon as I get to lvl 50-60 I get the urge to level up a new job and I'm a pretty slow leveler.

I did just unlock bard, however, and the performance options are insane! I figured you'd be able to play a harp and maybe the lute or something, but I was definitely not expecting to be able tp play several different drums and electric guitars. If only I had a shred of musical talent....

I went to my friend's world to level blue mage and now it may take me multiple hours to get back into my home world.

Switching to DPS caster after being a tank for so long is hard. I don't understand Red Mage at all.

Red mage is ez basically you're trying to balance your white and black mana attacks to build up your gauge, when it fills up, you can use your melee combo into your ults for your attack window. You use your neutral mana attacks to proc dual cast so you can instantly cast your longer black and white mana attacks

It sounds a lot more complicated than it is, it's super straightforward when you're actually playing. Here's the guide I used to get a handle on things
