however it's a bit hypocritical that anti medicine and anti science folks decide to go to the hospital when they're sick

It's definitely a weird thing. Anti-vaxxers bash scientists, epidemiologists, biologists, doctors, nurses, hospitals, the CDC, WHO, etc. all day long. They act as if their "research" into the matter gives them more expertise when it comes to handling pandemics and illnesses in general.

Then when they get severe covid infections, they're rushing to hospitals in droves.

that sounds like an issue with our medical system, to me. we should be able to handle pandemics on a national level. it's like how we get hurricane preparedness after one but never before when we need it. I don't think we should ever be in a situation where our best option is to let people die

I mean, he has a point. To be able to live in a society, you should at minimum be willing to do something that is proven to be effective in keeping people in your community, and even those outside of it, safe. If you're not capable of doing that, then essentially what you're saying is that you just dont give a fuck about anyone but yourself. Which really is par for the course for those that fall into this dumb far right conspiracy nonsense

I appreciate Covid is a fairly unique situation so should sit outside the norm but it does potentially open up the doors to conversations about denying hospital care for other people where there injuries are deemed "self inflicted".
