Incredible show finally returning.

I think I need to watch S1 & 2 again first though. Three years since season 2, damn!

S2 was the best show on TV when it aired.

I've rewatched 1 and 2 recently and S2 still floors me even knowing the story beats.

S1 is really good but it takes some people two or three episodes to get hooked.

I know I've said it before, but it was the episode that aired immediately after Game of Thrones Long Night episode, and it was a really eye opening night for me to just watch one of the worst episodes of TV I've ever seen followed immediately by one of the best.

Yeah, I'm afraid to try to pick this show up again. I don't know if I want to rewatch seasons 1+2 and I don't think I'll be able to just slide back in after all this time. It was a mistake to go this long before releasing season 3 (unless it manages to top the previous seasons in a big way)

ugh this show rocks

So glad I'm rewatching this show - it's even funnier and more meaningful than I remembered.

R/L deservedly gets a lot of love, but the episode directly before it is incredible too. Some of the best suspenseful tension I've ever seen

Also Bill Hader is a hilarious actor and still Anthony Carrigan steals every scene he's in

Just rewatched this one, I can agree.

Rewatch finished, now I get to watch the new episode tonight.

So good.

The gag with the 'too many dogs' made me laugh really hard, and then of course it's immediately followed up by an incredibly dark moment to end the episode.

Oh my God the dog bit definitely had me rolling too.

Full stop though, that might've been Barry's scariest episode, him yelling at Sally was so god damn chilling, and then the ending on top of it.

yeah I feel weird saying that they're really succeeding at making Barry irredeemable (considering all the horrible acts he's done in the past) but this really seemed like the first episode where from start to finish he was completely awful and without regret

at least in the past he's shown signs of humanity, before, after or during these terrible acts

this episode all I saw was an unhinged killer

No, I'm right there with you. Even after the end of S2 massacre I felt Barry could still somehow be redeemed in his actions, still had the ever so slightest glimmer hope of left, but so far this season has made it abundantly clear as to the contrary.

this show is anti-gamer propaganda

Definitely an episode setting up a lot of the rest of the season after the first two episodes kind of "resolving" the end of season 2. Have a feeling that, in terms of the acting plotline, Gene is going to get praised for his improv and end up with new offers? Is that too obvious?

I think youre right, because this show has another season coming up still. Barry and Gene need to stay actively involved with each other, so the show theyre on will probably determine that both of them should stick around for an extended arc or something. If theres not something forcing them to be in each others lives, theyre not going to interact.

Also hypothetically the route they can take is Fuchs contacts Gene, and they conspire together against Barry. But I think Gene needs to keep working with Barry for that, so he has the opportunity to get Barrys guard down for Fuchs. I think Fuchs is the main character most likely to die before the series finale.

also if I was taking odds on whos least likely to die before the series finale other than Barry, its Hank because hes so important to keeping this show legally a comedy.

Watched all of season 1. I really enjoyed it, up until.

He kills his friend to keep him quiet and cover himself.

Like up until that point, I sympathized with Barry really hard. But the story kinda lost that as soon as he crossed that threshold. He had hesitated and outright refused to kill Taylor before that, when he had a ton of pressure on him to do so. Killing Chris came about as a very sudden, very jarring thing. And even though it shook Barry to his core, showing him regretting his decision to the point of flying into a mournful rage, I don't know if I like the direction his character suddenly took.

That plus what happens in the last episode of S1, I dunno if I can root for this guy anymore. Overall it was a great watch, though. Just not sure I'm sold on continuing to the second season if this is where Barry is going.

While I personally don't think you have to root for Barry to make the show work, if you don't like increasingly dark storylines, then yeah, I'd probably say stop. I mean it's painful for me to say because S2 simultaneously has some of the most creative and funniest episodes too, but no point in putting yourself through misery if you don't want to.

would not have guessed Fuches strategy of sending past relatives of Barrys hits after him. That's pretty clever.

Latest episode continuing with the weird pacing - things either feel like they're happening too fast (Sally's show being cancelled, Barry revealing his psychotic self to Sally) or not fast enough (the Fuches' recruitment storyline, Bolivians vs. Chechens). Not trying to sound too harsh here but there was a propulsive tightness that really defined the first two seasons, and I think it's because the main cast were more easily able to interact with each other and interweave better but now they're a lot more spread out and doing their own things all over the place. Still loving it but just some gripes I have with this particular set of episodes so far and I guess I'm also just anxious to see where a lot of these storylines are going!

The best is that S3 and S4 were written simultaneously, so I'm not worried about writing themselves into a corner. I do think it's a little weird that everyone is choosing to try and kill Barry instead of, like, going to the cops with his name, but whatever.

Uh... wow. That was a breathtaking episode.

The cinematography during the chase scene was incredible.

I would not be surprised if Bill Hader wins a best director oscar one day (assuming he goes for film). For Barry being his first real crack at directing he continues to knock it out of the park. I'm sure it helps that he's working with Alec Berg, but the farther this show goes along the more and more his episodes outshine Bergs. In interviews it seems like he loves directing more than acting.

Yeah Hader really just has such an excellent vision for what he wants this show to be - understated yet really impactful. It's like showy without being showy if that makes any sense.

I was reading a quip from an interview of some sort with Bill Hader talking about the finale next week. He said that this week was dark, but next week's episode only has maybe two jokes in it and is really more disturbing. He mentioned the editor or someone who puts the shows together had to take a few extra days because it was tough on him. I love the show, but that interview has me kinda nervous for what to expect.

That's from a podcast he does for every episode., The Prestige TV Podcast. If you're a big film or TV nerd like I am it's great to listen to because a lot of the talk is behind the scenes stuff of how they shot certain things, how many takes were needed, things they edited in or out as they were filming, etc.

And its only like 30-40 minutes so easily listened to while still going in depth

Well my stomach is in all sorts of knots right now, don't remember the last time something affected me this powerfully. That was a finale executed to perfection.

Woke up still thinking about the finale.

Can't believe more people don't watch this show.

i remember dropping it for a while after watching S2E1. my fiancee and i just weren't that into the show. i think having long layoffs and being rather bleak/unlikable narrows your audience

i'm listening to the hader podcasts (honestly, one of the reasons i decided to catch up with the show) - and apparently hader's going to direct every episode of season 4. guy really is invested in directing.
