Yeah, it's pretty good. I'd take Three Houses and Tellius Fire Emblem over it from FE but that's about it I think for a series comparison.

the strategy itself is really quite good. character progression could be improved.

the story requires multiple playthroughs, which I wasn't really into. also the music is forgettable.

Gameplay is pretty good, story and characters are forgettable, voice acting is baaaaaaaaaad...

yeah the voice acting is rough, and it stands out even more when one of the worst VAs is the main character

I like the cast and the story though. Battles are good, except for how much the game relied on calling in reinforcements to prolong battles toward the end.

Bad voice acting in this day and age is kinda hard to look past imo. Is there an option to turn it off?

Overall it sounds like the gameplay is good but the writing is not. I'll probably wait for a sale.

The writing and the story scenarios are good. They get gradually more complex as you go, and the game's morality system is more than just "this choice is good and this choice is evil."

Good to great. The units all felt distinct in ganeplay which was great. Decent story but subpar pacing at points (including the beginning).

As a Shining Force fan I loved it, I beat it three times in a row and I never replay games.

The most important thing to know is that every character is a unique class, so this is not a game for those who like to change classes, but your underleveled units catch up superfast. Not sure if its something for those who is looking for a tough challenge.

I'm more than okay with that, actually. Am generally not a fan of gameplay that relies heavily on class switching.

This is one of those games where Normal mode is too Easy and Hard mode is too Hard.

The one thing that makes the game's difficulty kind of moot is that you are allowed deaths aside from mission critical objectives. Revivial is extremely limited but sometimes you can sacrifice strategy by using one character as bait to break a chokepoint. There is an in-game achievement for not letting a single character die, so there is incentive for a no deathless run.

On Hard mode, only your tanks can take more than 2 hits. Since a lot of stages don't have mission timers, it encourages a lot of turtling. If you like battles becoming a literal grindfest, then this game is great but there's not much room for experimentation.

I mean, youre allowed deaths even in Fire Emblem, right? Unless its the MC or a mission critical character, I cant think of a game where you cant technically use the sacrifice strategy. Deathless runs are always just a matter of personal pride.

I thought no-death normal was really hard actually

but yes, if you don't mind letting your characters die the game can be easy

I just bought the game yesterday. Looking forward to firing it up today. Glad to read some people are enjoying it.

Funny timing, I just finished my third playthrough in a row last night. I found it really fun and engaging but there are criticisms that can be made about the pacing, characters, and plot structure. I would say that the writing is overall pretty solid though. I played on Hard all three times and the challenge level was usually close to perfect in my opinion. As others have said, there is limited customization, so the game always knows what you have to work with.

My thoughts:

The story is good. There's always interesting stuff happening, and the plot twists are generally well done. Most chapters let you vote on what to do next, which is well executed.

The characters are bad. Well, not BAD bad, just... bland. I didn't really care about any of them, other than a couple minor characters. Usually I feel like you have to have good characters to have a good story, so I'm kinda impressed they managed a good story despite the weak cast.

The gameplay is solid, but I don't like the style quite as much as FE. The best part is that everyone has a unique class and abilities. No one really feels replaceable or like a clone.

I wasn't able to make it past the demo, but I hear it gets better later. I absolutely hated Octopath but it seems other people who agree with me found stuff to like or love in Triangle still. I do hope to pick it up if it ever goes on sale for under....$30, probably?

The voice acting was VERY bad, just like Octopath. Not quite Chaos Wars, but not that far off, really does sound like they just got people from around the office to do it. And the story presentation was straight up "Uninstall the game" tier for the demo, but I again I hear this is just a demo problem and gets much better later.

The narration between story chapters is terrible and pointless and a waste of time and should be removed from the game, but it's not particularly lengthy, and the rest of the story presentation is good.

Yeah, the narration is kind of unnecessary most of the time. All it does it recap what just happened or what your party has just discussed what it's going to do next.

I thought Octopath's VA was pretty good.

I like Octopath's English voice acting too, for the most part.

I think Octopath in general is much better than Tri Strat, particularly in music and presentation

people commonly think that Tri Strat is the Octopath devs follow-up... this is not true.
