masterplum posted... This is why its such good gamesmanshipOh lord. You realize that I am the one who outlined how the House plan was likely going to result in this very outcome - the unmodified deal passes while the paid sick leave part of the package ends up dying somewhere along the line ending in the result of the unmodified deal standing? I'm pointing out that you're very intentionally picking the framing that reflects most poorly on the Democrats while ignoring and/or absolving the Republicans as if they are simply a force of nature and not willingly and gleefully making the choices to act and vote the way they are. Hell, if anything, I'd argue my frame is more honest than yours simply because you are assigning motive and intent on the Democrats' part as doing this dishonestly whereas I simply framed it as the Republicans voting down the policy (and parenthetically suggesting possibilities somewhat sarcastically). Supposing we did it your way and they simply passed a single package with the paid sick leave so it was either vote for that or there's no deal - the blame would end up falling on Biden and labor and everyone fucking knows it. This isn't the first time we've seen a major strike and how people reacted. Take Reagan and the air traffic controllers for example. I could just as easily frame this as the GOP voting for a railway crisis because it would politically damage the Democrats. I'm not because I don't know where that ranks on their list of reasons for doing the wrong thing here. But your frame is basically the equivalent from the other side and I guess I'm wondering why? --- May you find your book in this place. Formerly known as xp1337. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Anyway, Senate website finally gave the roll call info on the forcing of the original deal. 80-15 (1 Present, 4 Not Voting) Booker was here (and a yes) on this vote despite not being a vote before. Dem No: Gillibrand, Hickenlooper, Merkley, Sanders, Warren GOP No: Collins, Cotton, Cruz, Hagerty, Hawley, Rubio, Scott [Florida], Scott [South Carolina], Sullivan, Toomey Present: Paul So those 5 Dems + Cruz, Hawley, and Rubio are the only ones to vote yes on the paid sick leave and then voted against the forcing of the unmodified deal on the workers.
