I finished I've Somehow Gotten Stronger When I Improved My Farm-Related Skills. To no one's surprise, it wasn't very good! I thought it would be like in an RPG where the hero cares more about a minigame (farming) and only begrudgingly participates in the main quest so he can access more farming stuff. Sadly, other than the occasional times where he says "I'm actually a farmer LOL", this was just a basic crappy fantasy anime. Boring main dude gets undeserved overpowered abilities and a slowly growing harem, pointless battles with no tension, and so on. There wasn't a whole lot of farming.

Out of all the shows this season why is this one of the ones you finished?? Kinda surprised you picked this one. Feels a bit random.

I want to watch at least ten non-sequel anime each season, and I really had to stretch to get there in this one! I didn't want to risk any of the romances and all the other bargain-bin fantasy ones seemed like even worse prospects. Farm Skills at least wasn't offensively bad, just incredibly mediocre

Are that many shows at all even finished? I've got 4 shows from this season I'm watching* and none of those are finished, at least.

*In theory--it is unlikely I actually make it to the end of Management of a Novice Alchemist though

I think that was one of the first ones. Nothing else I'm watching is done yet

Chainsaw Man beated. Can't believe it was so short. First episode and everything is resolved. MC gets a better life and nobody died.

Btw is this a Netflix anime? Can't imagine this thing gets aired on Japanese tv with so much gore.

Because it is very bloody, and the blood is actually red this time, unlike in the original anime where it was shown as black.

Management of a Novice Alchemist complete. Pretty fun show! Wasn't expecting too much after the first ep, which I mildly enjoyed, but it got better up to a point and stayed at the good level throughout. The animation was surprisingly nice whenever there was a battle, and I enjoyed the casual 'real life' goriness it had sometimes (like dismembering monsters for parts). The cast is fine, with Sarasa being the real star as the MC. It focuses quite heavily on her, and her alchemy antics are always fun. It's not exactly the same style as the Atelier games, but it feels similar enough, and seeing Sarasa's unshackled capitalism never stopped being entertaining.

Yeah, Novice Alchemist was solid from beginning to end. Small nitpick, but I wish Sarasa wasn't so overpowered. She does the alchemy, she's kind of a business genius, and when she leaves her shop, she's the best warrior for miles around, to the point where we never see Iris and Kate do anything. The girls were all cute, though. Lake episode best episode.

"Surprising" is definitely the right word considering Studio ENGI's other shows this season don't move much at all.

I also finished Management of a Novice Alchemist. It was fine, but I definitely agree with Socko about how it would've been a lot better if Sarasa wasn't so overpowered. Iris and Kate had no real role in the story when Sarasa, in addition to being an alchemist, was a better fighter than the two of them put together. Still, it was a nice cute girls alchemy/business anime. Definitely a lot better than Farming Skills in terms of this season's fantasy anime.

This month in DBS(hey its back!): 15 year Old Trunks romantically pursues a 65 year old woman whose body reverted to a 21 year old's body named Mai

This month in Boruto: Eida wants "Girl Talk," Boruto plays Pokenin, and Kawaki calls out the alien spirit inside of Boruto.

Reincarnated As a Sword beated. Quite good, actually! It's nice to run into the good isekai every once in a while. It's basically one of those father/daughter childraising series, with Fran as a great daughter character. She's generally ultra cute, her dialogue has some great non-sequiturs, and it was nice how she'd mercilessly slaughter enemies. The cast around her wasn't as exciting, but they generally didn't feel generic and the all contributed to the show's quality. Action animation was quite good, with some exciting choreography in the fights. Cool that the ending confirmed a second season too.

I love Asa. They're gonna be so good together. Especially with their adoptive daughter.

Chainsaw X Family

Now for the thrilling conclusion of me briefly considering whether I'm interested in Winter 2023 anime

Onimai: I'm Now Your Sister- this is the second anime next season where a guy gets turned into a girl against his will. This time it's a perverted guy who gets transformed because of a mad science experiment. I have zero faith this concept will be handled tastefully, so I won't watch it.

Farming Life in Another World- another isekai harem farming fantasy adventure. I learned my lesson after this season's Farm-Skills anime and won't watch this one.

Endo and Kobayashi Live! The Latest on Tsundere Villainess Lieselotte- the description for this confuses me. I guess people from the real world are communicating with a dating sim hero to try and change the outcome of the game? I appreciate the pun in calling the villainess Lieselotte, but other than that this doesn't interest me. I'll wait for that yuri villainess anime.

Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire- this one combines next season's trends! It's a concept that really sounds like an isekai but it isnt, and it involves a guy turning into a girl. I'll probably skip this one.

My Life as Inukai-san's Dog- a guy gets turned into a hot girl's dog. This is probably someone's fetish, but it isnt mine so I'll skip it.

The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague- a guy with ice powers works an office job and has a crush on a coworker. You know what, this actually sounds like it could be fun. I'll try it out.

Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible- this sounds like a cute story of a shy boy befriending a girl. I'll check it out

Spy Classroom- a spy girl who failed her exam gets some sort of hopeless assignment. This could be good, but I think I'll wait and see what reception it gets. The 'harem' tag on MAL makes me wary.

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten- generic slobby main dude gets cared for by wish-fulfillment hot girl, ugh. I'll definitely skip this.

Tomo-chan is a Girl- tomboy girl tries to make her crush realize she's a romantic option. I dunno, I guess I'll check this out but I'm not excited about it.

Crazy how long I've been watching this show. Iirc I originally caught up during Sabaody Archipelago, and of course that's not even counting watching some of the 4Kids dub when it originally aired.

That DBS chapter was very suspiciously great for the DBS manga

Taking a very quick glance through them. Honestly nothing I'm super thrilled about. Will watch Bofuri season 2 and the Trails of Cold Steel but those are pretty much the only guarantees. And even in those cases; I'm not a huge Bofuri fan, and though I am a huge Trails fan I don't have especially high expectations for this anime.

Interested and might or might not watch

The Angel Next Door Spoils me Rotten (Seems... maybe ok? Might give it one episode to test it but it could go either way)

The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (This doesn't look great, but it appears to be yuri so I'm willing to take a chance with it anyways.)

Kaina of the Great Snow Sea (The premise has me really interested. The visuals in the trailer are a turn-off, but I wouldn't say they're awful and could see myself getting used to it)

Chillin in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon Kings Army (This might suck, but the trailer gives off similar vibes to the Banished from the Hero's Party anime which was decent all things considered)

But then in april we got the shonen jump trio Demon Slayer, Dr. STONE, and Mashle!

I watched a while bunch of PVs and I'm surprised by how many shows look interesting.

Did not realize Revenger was full on all the way Gen Urobuchi.

Do It Yourself beated. Good stuff, though I think the first half was better overall - the show ran out of steam a bit with creative circumstances and character development later on I think, other than some Purin stuff. Jobko was the best girl. The world is great, and the animation/art are fabulous. Really nice atmosphere.

Feel like there aren't a ton of Fall anime I'm going to watch, so this is pretty much half done already...

I first caught up at the bridge in Enies Lobby. Feels crazy it's been that long. And I was hesitant to start at the time because the series was so long lol.

Not one mention of Tokyo Revengers Season 2?

The Tokyo Revengers anime is such a complete 1 to 1 absolutely no frills or directorial flair adaptation that there's really no reason to watch it over reading the manga. It's like they didn't even storyboard it and just traced the manga panels and drew the inbetweens.

It not like it a bad show, it's just not bringing anything to the table unless you just refuse to read manga.

I only really read manga with zero shot of anime adaptationsand honestly thats just manhwa.

Even if the stuff I read get anime adaptations I just don't watch them (unless my wife is interested).

Yeah, that's why the first half was better. The introductions had much more character development and unique/emotional scenes imo.

I also finished Do It Yourself. It was a nice anime. I especially liked the animation and art style, it was unique and really gave it a laid-back vibe. I liked all the characters, but Purin was my favorite. Still, it wasn't amazing or anything. Overall, a very average cute girls do a thing anime.

Finished Akiba Maid War. I liked the first episode quite a bit, but once the show had used its twist, it got really bad really fast. If all you want is violent maid cafes, this has that. I just wanted that aspect to build into an intelligent or satisfying story, and Akiba Maid War never did. The setting never came together for me. It focused more on edgy shock value than anything interesting or coherent. Oh well.

PA Works is now zero for four on creating a good anime original about a shitty workplace.

Akiba Maid War isn't a show about maids or cafes at all.

It's a yakuza show, where all of the gang members happen to be (cute) girls.
