It was just a disappointingly bad yakuza show. Multiple episodes were basically the same plot ~~the girls get into trouble at another cafe and then wipe them out happened three times with zero ramifications~~ and the characters were either boring or did things that contradicted their entire characterization Ranko was best girl, so I was so disappointed when they ruined her. Everything about her was focused on wanting to be a maid at the cafe with everyone else, but then she was willing to run away from that the second a dude proposed to her, ugh. Funnily enough, when it became a ~~ninja~~ show is when I dropped it. Nagomi was just really insufferable, and the rest of the cast wasn't much better. The only character I liked was Ranko, ~~and hearing how her character played out, I'm glad I got out when I did~~. When the Creatureland head brought it up to the Oinky Doink manager, she'd referenced the sheep massacre, and basically said Oinky Doink was on its own. Those event happened, and they came back to matter later to some extent. The casino episode definitely had no impact, though. In fact, a lot of the show seems to be more style over substance. Did Ranko's boyfriend of all of 1 episode influence the next episode before Ranko herself was killed? Once they get on that boat we're taking like a full cour of people standing around and talking. And it's COOL standing around and talking, with neat suff happening, but like.....I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for Madhouse to pop off with it. If the anime had gotten into this stuff as an ongoing weekly airing series, it'd be one thing, but the idea of starting a new season at this arc feels like a recipe for disaster. HxH is just about the peak of the genre for anime or close to it, definitely would not gold back in it if anyone is even remotely interested. I picked up the new box set for the full $150 retail even though I've seen the whole series twice, and I don't regret it at all. I really enjoyed the supernatural atmosphere and the little ghost mysteries the Raven Consort explored each episode. The way her relationships progressed with everyone was great too, especially with the Emperor. I'm guessing this won't appeal to most people as much as it did to me, but I enjoyed it. Only big problem is that it apparently only covered half of the light novel, so unless there's another season this ended on kind of an inconclusive note. The Little Lies We All Tell was my second-favorite anime of the season. I'm a fan of the kind of humor it used, which was often random or contrived to create hilarious situations. The secrets the four main characters were trying to hide led to a lot of funny moments. Bocchi the Rock was fine I guess, but I didn't like it as much as most other people seemed to. Bocchi was too much of a shy girl caricature for my tastes. I enjoyed how creative the animation often got with her breakdowns. Like, it used so many techniques and creative ideas and art styles, and it felt like it never used the same one twice! That was the best part of the show. Anya's probably my favorite character of the year overall. Anytime she was getting focused on the show was great, just about. Yor wasn't so great, so I understand why she gets less focus than the others. Loid's a solid protagonist and has some good comedic moments, partly because he's intensely silly too. Fiona was an excellent addition to the cast. Bocchi the Rock was excellent in every way. Bocchi is a fantastic protagonist, so I guess if there's a weakness it's that the rest of the cast isn't as good? But all of them interact with Bocchi in fun ways. Her family is legit great, tho lil sis is maybe a bit mean at times. Kita makes a fun contrast to Bocchi, Nijika's the most purely likable of the rest as the one who's most serious about the band and give Bocchi the encouragement she needs, and Ryo probably has the strongest comedic moments other than Bocchi herself despite (because) she's a douche. Nijika's sis was fun too. Drunk girl was the worst though. Her first ep was the weakest of the show for me. Otherwise, animation's fantastic and the show's mostly perfectly directed. Akiba Maid Wars was consistently entertaining. I don't think it was amazing or anything, but pretty much every episode was good fun, and there were a few neat surprises here and there. Ranko was the best character by far. Nagomi could've been better - an easy comparison is Swindler from Akudama Drive, a character in similar circumstances with much better development. It could be pretty inconsistent at times (why weren't more maids scared of Oinky Doink after they constantly slaughtered other maids?), but it was silly enough for that not to be too big a deal. The ending scene was wonderful. Starting with four recap episodes was silly, and the first couple episodes weren't the best, but it definitely picked up steam as it went and had a great finale. S2 is still my favorite season, but this tied back to it in an emotionally effective way, and might be my #2. What a lovable cast. Kokona especially too good. Also finished Mob Psycho 100 III. Eh, probably the weakest season. I hated the first few episodes, which really took some steam out of the rest of the season.
