I do not think the Bones aesthetic fits Chainsaw Man at all!

That to me sound like all the people who who were saying Trigger should have done it.

That'd be an entirely different show. Not bad, but probably not what I would be looking for.

Thinking they should have gone in a different direction is one thing.

Actually thinking it was an awful adaptation or it's some travesty that needs to be redone....your brain would have to be so messed up that I would be afraid to be around you in real life. Like, your wires are so crossed that you might suddenly start throwing rocks at people in a Burger King or something.

Meanwhile, Bleach fans are so enthusiastically into their anime adaptation that they propelled it to the Top Anime on MAL.

I was in on Chainsaw Man from the go because of Fire Punch. I own the whole thing, I consider it one of the greatest manga of all time!

It the anime perfect? No, literally nothing on the earth is perfect. Is it one of the best adaptations a manga has gotten? Well no, because it isn't done yet. Is it shaping up to be? Sure as fuck is.

This actually happens to an anime about once every season, lol.

This is also a totally opposite situation where people thought the manga sucked at this point, so seeing it get this treatment is fucking wild.

I finished Chainsaw Man. I really like the concept of hunting different kinds of devils, but the actual story didn't resonate with me very much. Too often it felt like it was going out of its way to be edgy just for the sake of it like the puke kiss, ugh. It also felt like it wasn't actually taking its own concepts seriously. Everyone was always goofing off in ways I didn't like. My favorite episodes were when they were in the hotel fighting the eternity devil because it was just a straightforward devil hunt with neat ideas. I wanted more of that and less of... everything else, basically.

I'm guessing no one is surprised I didn't love this anime, though. It isn't my usual kind of story. I still thought it was pretty good for what it was!

Yeaaaaa I wouldn't peg you as a Chainsaw Man fan so that's understandable, always good to watch some stuff outside your wheelhouse every once in a while! Kind of how I ended up loving Zombie Land Saga despite not ever having watched an idol anime (which to be fair it kind of isn't but it's the closest I've watched)

so the tatami galaxy - the novel - had been translated to english! i found the anime important and unappealing, but the concept was great, so i'm hoping (and expecting) to get more out of the book. if i like it enough maybe i'll even give the anime a rewatch

The book was good, but I was really drawn to the anime by Yuasa's stylistic flair, and it also adds a lot that isn't there in the book. Maybe it will change your opinion, though, who knows.

Finally got round to finishing Mob. I wish some of the side characters that the final season focuses on got a bit more screen time, though. A decent portion didn't have quite the same impact as it otherwise could. It's definitely the weakest season, both story and animation-wise, which is a shame. Still one of my favourite shows, and it wrapped up in a nice way, but it definitely grabbed me less than the first half or so of the show (and didn't really have the ridiculous animation that elevated the second season).

I've started Raven of the Inner Palace. The "who is this consort to this part of of the palace chamberdude emperor of books" tangled web of who is what is always frustrating in shows like these, but they made the main characters interesting and the cool mystical stuff obtuse and refreshing so far.

If the main character and the more dour tone sticks, I can put up with the weird political mumbo jumbo.

Finished D4DJ: First Mix. I thought the attempts at drama could have been handled better (particularly between Muni and Rinku) but all-in-all I really liked it. Rei was adorable, Rinku was fun, Maho was cool, and Muni...had her moments. I preferred when the songs and performances were more upbeat, so the slower stuff towards the end weren't as good, but Peaky's performance on the Sunset Stage was great. I'll try to get through Petit Mix and Double Mix, but I'm looking forward to All Mix next season regardless.

Also time to start Tsurune.

Oh man I totally forgot that they even did the Biscuit Hammer anime and now I'm super depressed about it again.

I'm depressed that the year is almost over and there's still no word on an official release for Summertime Rendering.

I'd give up TBQH.

It sounds like they did a really good job with it too which makes it all the more depressing.

As if there weren't enough reasons to hate Disney already.

I just loved how fun the show was, so seeing Maho and Muni moping kinda bugged me. This did remind me to go watch the rap episode subbed, and it added context that made me less displeased with that episode.

I saw a post on MAL that Rei's VA wasn't coming back, but I didn't know about Ibuki. Even though I'm only familiar with their singing (and whatever roles they have in Petit/Double Mix) that's still unfortunate. There being canon lesbians is much better news and kind of surprising. These kinds of properties like to leave things intentionally ambiguous.

I finally forced myself to finish My Master Has No Tail. This was easily the worst anime of the season, and that's saying something because I also watched that crappy farming one. Mameda the tanuki was kind of cute, but literally every other character was annoying in some way (special mention to the girl who spoke one word every three seconds and the guy who coughed after every word). Still, the worst part about this was the rakugo. The stories were never presented well during the episodes, there was always something going on at the same time that distracted from them and made them impossible to enjoy. The anime tried to fix that by having a section at the end of each episode where Mameda explains the rakugo, but those were even worse! She literally sat there for two minutes explaining the jokes with no visual flair or artistry. They had two tries at the rakugo in each episode and they messed up both of them in every single one. I didn't enjoy this anime at all.

Anyway, I'll rank the ten shows that I watched from this season now. There's still one episode left in The Witch from Mercury, but I doubt my opinion on it is going to change significantly. Aside from a few shows, this was a disappointing season for me. I had a lot of trouble reaching my self-imposed ten show quota.

A new popular shonen jump series has been about rakugo and it's so boring. (the subject matter, not the manga)

Akane Banashi is a fantastic manga so far.

Rakugo Shinjuu was also an incredible anime other than some stuff at the ending.

Joshiraku is also a pretty damn funny show.

Honestly I'm amazed at how good rakugo anime and manga content tends to be considering I don't care about it in the slightest!

Same deal with Mahjong, Akagi and (most of) Saki kill it.

My first rakugo media exposure was literally like a year ago when I played AA6's DLC case.

That wasn't the DLC case, that was 6-4!

It was also awful, lol.

b8anime has/had a fascination with all these niche Japanese cultural things. Like I understand being interested in Shogi/Go/Karuta/Mahjong. But for whatever reason b8anime likes shit like rakugo. I'm pretty sure every one of the old b8anime friends was verbally fellating that rakugo anime with cute girls a few years back calling it the anime of the decade and shit like that. You'd think b8anime was a bunch of 80 y/o shriveled up Japanese retirees in nursing homes shitposting on gamefaqs in their spare time.

Good anime is good anime. It's not like these shows and manga aren't well regarded everywhere else, too! Rakugo Shinjuu is in the top 50 on MAL, which while not a quality indicator does mean it's popular (especially considering how much of the top 50 are multiple entries for deofferenr seasons of the same shows). Akane Banashi is one of Jump's most popular ongoings, regularly in the top 10.

I do remember Joshiraku getting maybe a bit more praise than it deserved, though. It was totally fine and enjoyable. But this was the time where I was watching stuff in the genre like Yuru Yuri and there's no comparison.

I know I watched Joshiraku after Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei, had no idea what rakugo was, and could not remotely understand much of what was going on. I eventually rewatched it after Rakugo Shinjuu and some other rakugo-related stories and could understand very slightly more. What a card that Kumeta is.

Easily the most popular Rakugo scene in any anime that most people don't realize is Rakugo.

Welp, 4 episodes in and I've dropped Tsurune. It's just angsty Free except none of the boys are fun or likeable, and Gou from Free has more character and personality than Tsurune's 3 female shaped stage props combined.

Ah, one of the few KyoAni series I never even tried.

New Chainsaw chapter reminding me once again that Fujimito is the king, and he doesn't need some huge event or twist to prove it.

I am trying a show called Space Battleship Yamato 2199. Apparently, it is a 2014 remake of a 1974 show. It has some positive buzz, and I dug the vibe and the characters right away.

Caught up on the last 2 month or so of One Piece.

Some cool stuff here, but we're reaching that part of every modern OP arc where my eyes start to glaze over at text walls and I can't retain everything. I'll probably remember about 20-30% of what happened or was explained in the lab.

Thank God this arc of the I favor the villainess manga is over.
