She's shown to be incredibly important to the X-Men and extremely loyal. She's regularly been portrayed as a teacher and a headmistress of Xavier's schools(as well as shown to care deeply for her students), portrayed as helping the X-Men(in ways that they, admittedly, might not even know at first). She's extremely well written, and her growth has been pretty damn natural especially given what we know of her life before and during the Hellfire Club.
