He recently became a SSgt, and thinks hes above everyone else Well, above the SrA and below But hes pretty much trash at this. Our actual NCOIC (our boss for the section) left him in charge, but was worried about it. And its been bad. Hes only in charge for two weeks (last week and this week), but yeah Hes already given out like 3-4 pieces of paperwork, and might try to give another out today Which Ill do my best to stop if he really tries to He also lies a lot Hes about to have a mutiny on his hands Either way, nobody is happy with him So glad its only temporary

You guys ever get those types of bosses?

He keep arguing about AFIs (Air Force Instructions, which are basically certain kinds of rules) and stuff, but is wrong most, if not all, of the time

The vagueness and acronyms/shortened terms makes this hard to follow in a meaningful way for me. I believe you in your statements, I just cant really connect to it to agree with it. Regardless, fuck that dude.

Sorry about that

SSgt is Staff Sergeant. E-5 (Rank and pay grade)
SrA is Senior Airman. E-4 (Rank and pay grade)
NCOIC is Noncommissioned Officer in charge. So, boss of a section.

I tend to use the NATO charts to make comparisons, so I go by those codings.

Pretty sure I saw Staff Sergeant listed as OR-6/E-6, or is this another "Captain" situation?

I just go by the US ranks Im E-6 In the Air Force, and thats Technical Sergeant. The branches are all pretty different from each other already before even getting into international differences

Yep, that's why I like to compare the NATO codes, as those do seem to be agreed upon between member states.

The OR seems to match when talking about the differences between Enlisted and NCOs. Though, very general and vague

In the US army and the marine corps, a staff sergeant would be an E-6.

It was a bit of a problem on Travis AFB where I was stationed, but honestly it's a problem everywhere. You are going to run into guys like that (usually fairly incompetent, which keeps them from moving up, but not enough for them to get fired/moved somewhere else usually).

Luckily my time in the AF was just 2 years since they let me out when the Gulf War ended (and they couldn't give me my guarantied job) and most of the time was just running as a courier on base (so no direct boss/person over me to deal with). I still saw a few people I was really glad I was not directly under though.

After leaving I usually ended up in management positions, Lead Tech, Managing Shipping and handling for Value Media, Managing a law firm etc, so didn't end up working for too many people like that luckily (still had a few over the years though). Can be really freaking frustrating even if it's only for a short time (which it always was for me). Can't imagine doing it for years etc.

While there are some really bad people to be under, some are really good, as well Its just luck of the draw on which one you get

I think the best course of action in such cases is to play to the wannabe boss's ego, how you need him to review this or help with that, cause he's just the bestest at everything and you really need his input. Have yourself and others in the office act this way and just burn him the fuck out from overworking and decision-making.

When I was in the AF decades ago, we had this officer that was a real pain. In fact he was so bad that the entire squadron got him fired because they failed one of their drills in spectacular fashion. My suggestion would be to go along with streamofthesky's idea.

I would if he was going to be our boss for a while. But this is the last week. He left somewhat early yesterday (probably because he was embarrassed by what happened Friday) And hes already gone today The only days left are W-F Long enough to stroke his ego, but not long enough to overwork him And hell just tell us to ask someone else, or to do it ourselves. And since Im the one who knows the most, it wouldnt make sense for me to ask anything since Im the one normally answering questions. People always call me to answer their questions Plus, hes a super hypocrite

Working in a prison I recognize some as we are "Para military " I know Sgt (sergeant) and OIC (officer In charge)

But yeah I've seen it plenty. My captain seems that way but I've only known her as a cpt. I understand she was actually worse as a Sgt. Have a Sgt that was a coward as an officer but as a Sgt suddenly he's got balls about him..guess causw whenever he deals with a inmate now he's got officers with him.

Also had a LT. (Lieutenant) who was OIC but when captain came and took over he left shortly after because unlike the last captain he worked under she wouldn't let him run the show. Well that and he was bitter he didn't get the captain spot with the added slap in the face he had to train her to do the job he tried to get

It was fucked up they made him train her even though he wasn't a captain and had interviewed for that spot. They shoulda made her train under the other night shift captain. Man had ran that shift for like 4 months and despite having a captain over him on the other rotation he ran that one too. He knew the job. He was tough to work for cause he was strict but he didnt go about it in a way that was making people quit left and right like the current captain. You'd be mad at him that day but you'd be laughing about it the next day cause he was always kinda humorous in how he said and did things

Yeah. That would suck, tbh I would hate to be passed over for a job, but have to teach the new person how to do the job when it would make more sense to put me in the position
