Personally I don't see the way he just bops under to have the appearance of a shark pulling him. It would have to be a massive shark to just do that without a visible struggle in the surface. It's basically like how its done in Jaws, which was patently unrealistic for dramatic effect.

The camera whips back around fast enough that you should be able to see some whipping and thrashing in the spot.

But maybe that's just my confirmation bias. I certainly don't have any actual knowledge.

But the way some of you keeps saying it's definitely a shark 100% strikes me as people who definitely say there's a face on a mountain of Mars. Not absurd, or even farfetched, like that, obviously. I just don't think it's as blatant as you're claiming.

Yeah I'm not so sure he was dragged under either, it seems like he's swimming out of frame right as the dude moves his phone. I very strongly believe it's a shark or another animal of some kind, but there's no doubt a living object in the water that resembles a shark. It's not a hill I'm going to die on. May very well not be a shark, but it's definitely something.

by 'heavy editing' i refer to the people who have adjusted the brightness or contrast or have slowed it down.

because you need to jump through those hoops in order to make a grainy thing turn into some other grainy thing that looks like something (almost) (kinda).

you still haven't answered me as to whether or not anyone calls out this 100% visible and 100% real shark. i can't reasonably say that you've watched it; for all i know you've just seen screenshots.

There is no way to prove with this video that we have that it was a shark. Thats my stance.

and also, when he just disappears out of the video, I dont think many people here realize just how dark the middle of the ocean is when there is no
light pollution and its cloudy enough to block the lunar light from the moon.

lights from the ship only extend a few feet past the ship. And the distance from where the teen is and the ship is deceiving. Hes further away than you realize. So where he just disappears is more likely him just disappearing into the darkness.

the ship moving and the current going the opposite way will separate them rather quickly.

Even if it wasn't a shark, odds are that a nearby one found him eventually. Either drowned or still struggling to stay afloat.

In the video before he goes down you hear some dude mostly drunk yell bye bye in a sarcastic manner. That is the last thing you hear before you are eaten by a shark.

Of that list, oceanic whitetip are well known known to target/attack humans. They are considered the culprits in the USS Indianapolis.

Bull sharks are very, very aggressive too.

Kinda helps to watch it on a large screen TV on Youtube at 1/4 speed. The only point I could see where you can make a convincing argument is the wave looking thing about 4 seconds in. In slomo you can see it's moving like a fish or shark would and you can make out what looks like a tailfin, front body, and even the outline of a dorsal fin. Blurry af though so can't really say for certain. Still don't think you see the shark bite at his feet. You can see an upward splash coming from his right leg and it stays above the leg then he slams his leg back down and it makes the splash you'd expext when you slap water which means nothing solid is there such as a sharks head.

Didn't go to one until college, but... yeah.
It's one of those things that sails around an area, and you get drunk off your ass on the ship.

I guess it's a way for the college (or high school, in this case, I guess) to allow kids to get drunk without them going off and getting involved in a crime or accident.
