You in fact can lose weight very easily if you replace those with healthy, low calorie, satiating alternatives, even assuming you don't increase your activity (Which you should). Why most people are overweight is not a medical mystery, it is because they are constantly in a calorie surplus. The vast majority of people do not have a medical condition where they cannot lose weight, and no one, in the entire world, has a medical condition that causes them to gain body fat while in a calorie deficit.

Like, this is the kind of shit that pisses me off. Its one thing to say we shouldn't bully people. I agree with that completely. But we also shouldn't make excuses for people who can very easily improve their lives by changing their dietary and activity habits. The reason why America has sky-high levels of obesity isn't because everyone here happens to have been born with a medical predisposition to that. Anyone who thinks that changing diet isn't going to make a difference insofar as weight gain or loss is concerned is a fucking idiot, regardless of their profession or credentials. Behavior modification can sometimes be harder than a medical solution to a clinical problem.

"Just eat greens and run a calorie deficit, brah," isn't the helpful advice so many people think it is.
