i'm having a blast watching gym jordan getting kicked in the dick and i wouldn't mind seeing it happen another 20+ times, but at the same time i wouldnt mind seeing the house get their shit together and elect a speaker. its already been 15 days now and nothing is getting done. hopefully these dysfunctional clowns can find someone to run who isn't batshit crazy or out to screw the whole country. but i guess that's a tall order at this point. especially when ken buck is their voice of reason.

one thing is for certain though. i'm gonna need more popcorn for tomorrow.

I'm hoping for a Democrat Speaker

i dont see it ever happening as that would be political suicide for the republicans political careers come their next election term, but at the same time i would find it absolutely hilarious if the democrats can somehow convince 5 republicans to either vote present, or heaven forbid, vote for the honorable hakeem jeffries.

the republican house would be absolutely bonkers, and they would be eating each other alive. hilarious for everybody else though.

i really don't see anything crazy like that ever happening. perhaps if it becomes clear that the nomination is either going to be gym jordan or hakeem jeffreys and nothing is going to change, perhaps after a few hundred votes on a dead ballot it could play out in the democrat favor. but there is absolutely no way those republicans would risk doing that, because they would get ran out of town by their own party members. somebody would have to fund a seperate FBI and police division from all the death threats those defectors would surely receive from their constituents.

it would plunge the GOP into complete chaos and perhaps even destroy their whole party in the 2024 election. but with that being said, i would totally welcome this.

It's not super common for a political party in the states to both be run by a cult of personality and lose massive amounts of ground three election cycles in a row. Trump gave Rs a trifecta in 2016 and if they lose in 2024 it'll be the fourth time in a row Trump cost them political leverage.

They are very much so tearing at the seams. The only things keeping them tethered together at all is A: they have a good chance of winning the senate in 2024 and B: Biden is a weak incumbent. They have hope of retaking power, but if they lose that, I don't see how the party doesn't collapse outside of the state level.

Gaetz fucked them and Gaetz wants Jordan, so that's reason enough for some of them to never vote for Jordan. I've also read that some are standing firm in not wanting an election denier as Speaker, which supposedly killed both Jordan and Scalise the first time.

hopefully ken buck and the other holdouts don't prove to be as spineless as they usually are. republicans that are actually interested in governing have no reason to cave to jordan who has never authored any successful legislation in his 16 year career. hopefully jordan continues to bleed support and some supposedly moderate gop members are forced to compromise with democrats on a moderate speaker.

if jordan doesn't get the votes there is no path forward for any republican unless they compromise with democrats. in that scenario the democrats would be able to demand concessions and at least ensure we get ukraine funding and the government stays open. it would also enrage the insane cultist wing of the gop and the cultist voters which would lead to even more gop infighting which would be good for democrats and america long term

yeah, ken buck (who is an ultra conservative) refused to vote for steve 'david duke without the baggage' scalise and jordan because they are election deniers. buck is not a moderate in any world but even a few far right conservatives refuse to fold to the terrorists. hopefully they keep that spine

Well the idea is that you negotiate and make concessions to win over additional votes.

I don't know what the fuck Jordan was doing yesterday to somehow not gain a vote but lose one.

Theres a coordinated effort among the 55 Republicans who opposed Jordan in an internal conference meeting last week to build on their votes of opposition to ensure that he loses more votes each round, according to three Republicans familiar with the plan. In other words, he loses more votes with each round he holds

Gerrymandering makes it impossible for independents / third parties to win in House races. The only time we had one was when Amash switched to Libertarian mid term and then he was out immediately after.

Jordan won't hold third speaker vote today and leans toward backing McHenry resolution
From CNN's Melanie Zanona
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan wont hold a third speaker vote today, sources tell CNN, as he has struggled to flip Republican holdouts and was at risk of bleeding more support.
He is now also leaning toward backing a resolution to empower interim Speaker Patrick McHenry, sources said, but wants to see how today's House Republican Conference meeting goes.
Heading into the meeting, Jordan would not tell CNN what he plans to do and said he wants to talk to his colleagues first.

Virginia Rep. Bob Good, a close ally of Rep. Jim Jordan and one of the eight Republicans who voted to oust Kevin McCarthy as House speaker, defended his vote and projected confidence that Jordan would ultimately win the speaker's gavel.
Good told CNN on Thursday that he didnt trust McCarthy to keep his word and that if they hadnt voted to oust the California Republican, nothing would have gotten done.
What we didn't do under Kevin McCarthy for nine months suddenly would have happened in the last two weeks? the Virginia Republican said, referring to House spending bills. He said he would do a lot of things that didn't happen."
Good criticized the Republican holdouts who are so far refusing to back Jordan for speaker. Twenty-two Republicans voted against Jordan on Wednesday in the second round of voting for his speakership bid, up from the 20 who did not back him on the first ballot.
No one else has 200 votes. And those who are opposing him have some made no message and no sale as to why they're against him, Good said.
He continued: Why would we want to start over and take another week or two to try to find someone else to even get close to 200? There are no other candidates at this point. Jim Jordan represents the conservative center of the conference. He represents the grassroots voters who gave us the majority. Theres nobody else but Jim Jordan.
