Haven't heard of this movie but just watching that clip and I can tell the premise is incredibly stupid.

The premise is literally: If you give one person too much power, even with good intentions, said intentions can end up bad/corrupted. Thus, the heroine realizes the mistake that was made, and tries to fight against the already established system.

That doesn't seem like a bad premise at all, since it literally admits mistakes were made, which lead to the "villain," in the first place.

The premise seems to be, if you make a wish, part of your soul goes to this handsome fella and you forgot you made that wish in the first place unless it is granted

If you've ever followed TC's posting history, it's no wonder why they agree with the villain. They tend to not like people having rights, and when you call them out over it, they concern troll.

Attacking TC seems dumb since it appears most of the responses in the tweet also dont disagree with the antagonist character.

But this seems like a John Walker situation. Disney frames the character as bad because of music choice and bad facial expressions even though the characters actions are very tame and reasonable objectively.

Like, the antagonist is apparently a king. Its a monarchy. Hes literally doing his duties to the kingdom in a way that doesnt hurt anyone.

Well I mean, some wishes shouldn't be granted. Some wishes are extremely selfish and can hurt others even if they are not trying to. You wish for that promotion but you take it from someone else who also deserves it. Some wish harm on others. Some wish for magic fish nets that can disrupt the eco system. This movie is gonna base it on that all the wishes he is holding are good and decent wishes. Though I think he should give some back and encourage them to fulfill their wishes themselves. It's a very nuanced take that isn't all sunshine as rainbows but this is a kids movie so eh.

But theres zero oversight. People only make wishes they think are good but some arent when you step back. He only grants wishes he thinks are good and everyone must trust that hes perfect.

Wish is intended to honor their 100th birthday. I would expect Disney to make the most incredible and heartfelt masterpiece ever

Yeah...this is a difficult thing because (at least from this short clip) it doesn't seem like he's being villainous?? He is the king / wish granter and he decides if a wish is harmful or not and then grants it.

The MC's qualm is that a bunch of wishes don't get granted...but like all wishes cannot be granted. If two people wish to be the best doctor in all the kingdom, that's impossible to grant both. What if one person wants to be the best doctor for riches while the other genuinely wants to help people?

Also someone else in this thread said it best: all wishes are not equal. Sometimes people can wish for selfish things that they don't need or as the guy says they could wish for something outside of their achievable means, which in that case forgetting it might be the best for everyone.

They're gonna have to really show some villainy I.E. he gains power from ungranted wishes, or he collects wishes / memories to enslave people, etc. for me to side against him.

Also he doesn't say that he only doesn't grant wishes that are harmful. He says he only grants one that benefits the kingdom. Which is going to be ones that benefit him. Because...he's the villain.
