Ive said this in the past few years here, and its beginning to come true.

PC gaming as you know it will cease to exist in 5 to 10 years

They've stated "PC Gaming" is going to be dead in ___ years how many time over the past 20+ years?

And over time, it's gotten too be larger & larger of a gaming platform.

One that rivals Consoles in terms of user base.

Streaming will always suck compared to playing it on the original device.

Local streaming works really well and covers most use cases.

But LapTop gaming is a different beast.

There are better options at home for console style gaming and there are better options outside for console style gaming.

Not much room for a dedicated laptop. Would it even have a keyboard?

I don't think so since profit margins aren't always disclosed or can be measured differently between companies.

Regardless revenue does show where consumers are sending their money. So it's still a useful stat.

Now onto your actual point, its a shitty beast. I relied on gaming laptops for years, so I know them better than most. Theyre pathetically weak compared to a desktop, and massively overpriced.

Theyre always worthless on battery, so you have to tote around a massive power brick if you want to do portable gaming etc.

This plus the mouse (and keyboard if you actually want a good one) automatically means a backpack or messenger bag, and a fair bit of weight.

Any gaming laptop in the price range of a console isnt going to be any more powerful than the Steam Deck OLED anyway, without really giving any benefit.

The only times a gaming laptop are even worth considering is when you travel or move a lot for work and you need something you can both work and game on. This doesnt apply to the vast majority of the populace. Even then, if you can find some small portable monitor, a mini ITX build is about the same level of portable while being far better.

Less Constrained than a Hand Held form factor

Local streaming works really well and covers most use cases.

And playing Natively will always be > Streaming, even locally.

There are better options at home for console style gaming and there are better options outside for console style gaming.

It's called the PC, but that requires people who are willing to fidget with their hardware / software.
Not everybody cares or can be arsed to do that for gaming.
It takes a certain type of gamer to really care to game on PC.

No KB by default since it's a console, all interfaces must work with the controller.

I know that, that's why I recommend carrying the AC adapter with you.

Depends on how much cooling & extra stuff you want to pack into the device.

But even then, 5 or 6 lbs wasn't a big deal to lug around in a backpack.
I've done it plenty of times. Obviously lighter is better, but you can only go so far before you compromise the cooling solution.

Not at the price point Microsoft could produce such a product at and expect it to actually sell. A $1000... whatever the hell that would be is DOA. Period.

The bottom line is theres nothing Microsoft can do. People already have established game libraries, achievements, play histories, etc. on PC or PS, and that alone is enough of a reason to never care about the Xbox ecosystem for anything besides exclusives, which are playable in PC but better there anyway.

It depends on what level of performance you're targeting; if you're not expecting to beat PS6, but to beat the Super Switch & existing XSX|S, then you can precisely target Price/Performance at a reasonable price in the LapTop form factor.

Thats what the Steam Deck is already doing. Youve also said no keyboard, so this isnt really a laptop anyway, it sounds more like a portable all-in-one with a controller. That means new R&D etc., so I dont see any such device being price competitive with the handhelds or the standalone consoles.

People have been saying this since consoles were a thing my dude.

I think it's the opposite. Console gaming and PC gaming will consolidate until they're basically indistinguishable.

As long as Game Pass keeps being a thing idgaf what happens to Xbox consoles
