This is a good point. I don't really understand the people approving of this. If you can vote, you should be able to do anything else. I am not a fan of different ages for different privileges. Either change the age of legal adult to 21, or make everything legal at 18. This mix and match crap is stupid

I mean were slowly moving everything to 21 it seems. It was just drinking, then smoking, etc.

i do wonder if they ever did change the legal age for things like age of consent and pornography to 21 what will happen to so much of the existing stuff. It would be basically impossible to wipe out all 18-20 y/o porn that already exists so would it only apply to newly produced stuff?

Just as a side note, since 18 and 21 come up a lot...

18 and 21 are age requirements for military service, buying cigarettes, buying alcohol, and being an adult actor in pornography, but it's not America's age of consent. People believe it's 18 and go around saying it's 18, but the US has no age limit for consent. It's decided at the state level and varies by state, but it's usually lower than 18. 16 is common. That's not 16 if the older partner is close to that, but even if the other person was 87. Often it can be lower than 16 is the age difference is limited.

Also, while we're on misconceptions and incorrect assumptions, there's no national law against women being topless in public. Many states are cool with it, though sometimes local laws can still decide it's illegal even if the state doesn't care.

I edited my previous post but I dont necessarily disagree. But it would have interesting implications for a lot of things.

Honestly most 18/19 year olds arent much different than children to people over 25 anyways. I do think that after HS there does become a pretty big disparity in life experience depending on the path chosen. Like kids who go straight into picking up a trade or joining the military have on average more actual life experience than kids who goto to college directly after HS without working. Not that I think one path is better than the other.

Who cares though? If you're an adult at 18, that's all that matters.

Also, while this could hurt strip clubs, it'll only turn more women to porn, camming, or onlyfans style work instead, since that's not 'stripping'.

Honestly I agree for the most part. But historically we have moved the age thats considered an adult a few times in history pushing it back slightly later. So the argument is whether or not 21 should be considered the age of a legal adult. I dont care either way but I do think itd be nice if it was consistent instead of different things at different ages of adulthood.

Never been to a strip club, nor do I have any urge. However I don't live in a theocracy where religion dictates how I or others live. I don't want people forcing their religious bullshit on me. Especially when they are using a man made book of fairytales to decide laws.

This is not true in America there was a time where 21 was considered and adult and it was later lowered. And throughout the different civilizations of the world it has varied from 15/16 to 21 for men and was low as 13/14 for women (though for women then adulthood mainly meant old enough for marriage/children)

When was 21 considered an adult? You could always join the military after High School, 17, 18, or whatever.

Good - this is like the first good change I've seen come out of FL in who knows how long.

Youth culture has changed a lot in the last generation or two, and laws are lagging behind. Kids are staying kids longer. If someone is a pedophile for being attracted to a 16-17 year old, then why should it remain legal for an 18-year-old to sell their sexuality in a vocation that's inherently dangerous and seedy?

You in favor of raising the military age to 21? How about construction? Logging? Fishing? Police? Fire fighting? Truck Driving? These are some of the most dangerous jobs in the country. Or are you only concerned about the 'seedy' aspect, not the 'danger' aspect.

The age of majority in the US was 21 until 1971. In 1971 the 26th amendment gave 18 year olds the right to vote and as a result most states followed and lowered their age of majority to 18. Legally speaking the age of majority is the age in which someone is no longer a minor.

No? Only for purchasing alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco products. Everything else meaningful is 18. So they can vote at 18, but not strip. They can star in porn, but not strip. They can have a relationship with a 50 year old sugar daddy/mommy, but not strip. They can take out a major financial loan and go heavily into debt, but not strip. They can sign up for the military and be sent off to die in some shithole, being turned into a government-funded killer, but not strip.

I'm not against the change, but I do find it interesting that many parents have the belief that at the age of 18 kids are considered "adults". You can't legally drink or work at a strip club, but you are considered "intelligent" enough to vote, enlist and drive a car. All 3 of which scare the ever loving shit out of me just thinking about. You can also legally be kicked out of your own home once you turn an adult.
